We, the S[quadrat] GmbH, one of the leading providers in the field of development, production, integration and maintenance of LED display systems will present our newest LED display products and software solutions to operate LED display systems especially for retail solutions. The highlights will be the two new developments S[quadrat] SO [6 SMD] NT Light video display and S[quadrat] SI TV [2 SMD] NT Light video display. The SO [6 SMD] NT Light is conceived especially for outdoor applications like digital city light boards, info boards and steles. The pixel pitch of only 6 mm and a brightness of 6,500 cd/m² provide a unique high resolution and impressive brightness even for outdoor use. We are currently delivering an orientation system consisting of several LED steles with high-end Nichia LEDs for a well-known German automobile manufacturer. The product SI TV [2 SMD] NT Light video display introduces our new TV series. This includes high-resolution LED video displays with a pixel pitch up to 1,9 mm. This series is particularly suitable for high quality video content, which is intended for a broad audience, just like in shopping centers, flag ship stores, TV studios and conference rooms. More highlights are our LED design solutions especially developed for retail applications. Together with the German company F.G. Meier, which is known for its instore concepts all over the world, we recently supplied several individually designed LED furniture pieces for a big sports equipment manufacturer. For our first step towards the digitalization of our billboard by LEDs, especially the quality was important for us to be suitable with the exclusive location. Therefore we informed ourselves by established suppliers, national and international. We found a very reliable and serious partner in S[quadrat], who has supported and taken care of the project very enthusiastically right from the start. From the help with the building application to the planning of the steel construction, the analysis of the viewing angle, installation and service we got everything in one package. Moreover, we succeeded an essential enhancement in quality by using high-end Nichia LEDs and special video wall software. You see, S[quadrat] absolutely backs its product and is earnestly interested in our project. Due to this positive experience we are looking forward to further joint projects. Plakatdigital markets a high-end LED wall from S[quadrat] at Rostock s biggest traffic junction with approx. 48,000 cars per day. Our customers value our flexibility and rapidity, which analogue poster mediums cannot offer. We are convinced that we have made an essential step towards the future of Germany s outdoor advertising. 11 technical report Rainer Beerhalter, R&D Director of S[quadrat]: The Importance of EMC Design in LED Displays EMC compliance (IEC60950, EN55022) is not only a required feature for market entry but is becoming a design target in the development process of new LED displays. With pricing of LED systems going down, and sizes and pixel count of LED screens becoming higher, the color depth and refresh rates are going up. This result in current LED switching speeds of 25 MHz and beyond. These market requirements make it more and more difficult to keep radio frequency emissions below the limits of the standards for EMC. When analyzing the existing LED solutions in the market several years ago, there have been various approaches to prevent EMC radiation by extensive use of shielding techniques. This is becoming insufficient anymore. Investing large design resources and material in shielding construction to prevent radiation from components and electronic devices is not the solution. Putting our design resources into avoiding radiation at the source is Squadrat s strategy and vision. Results of our R&D confirm this vision. From the S[quadrat] SX [Master] control system and it s subsystems down to the LED driver are designed to minimize any possible source of radiation and fulfill EMC requirement like EN This is not only approved by measuring single LED cabinets inside a EMC measuring chamber at a certified lab (like LGA Nuremberg, Germany and Hummel Electronics, Fellbach, Germany) but also by performing field measurements for entire display systems. Let us take our installation in Audi-Sportpark (Ingolstadt, Germany) as an example. Our EMC partner Hummel Electronics has set up the emission measurement according to EN55022 on each of the two 35m² SO [10/20] NT displays. Both displays are measured to be EN55022-compliant. As a matter of course S[quadrat] not only follows emission requirements but also comply with irradiation and conducted emission requirements. With our EMC improvements by design we benefit from higher system stability, as emissions not only interfere with external services (security, ATC, mobile, radio, TV) but also inside large systems like LED walls. Another positive factor of our approach is reduced requirement for cabinet as a HF device (ie. proper shielding) and improved power efficiency. We are very satisfied with the results of our research. EMC compliance has been achieved by proper system design. By offering system field measurements to our valuable customers, we can prove our EMC compliance rather than stating these results on our product datasheets. S[quadrat] Since last year S[quadrat] GmbH is a member of the association of German Light Advertisers (LWD). The aim of this young association is the creation of a powerful representation of interests for the illuminated advertising sector. Its purpose is the safeguarding and promotion of the members interests. For the fulfilment of this objective the association will represent the members interests towards the institutions of the European Union, the federal government, the states, the towns and the local authorities as well as media, politics and the public; develop and share communication and information systems to keep its members informed about general business and industry-specific subjects enhance the reputation of the illuminated advertising sector in public; especially by informing about promotion and interests of the association and its members using media contacts and several events; promote performances of all members by means of suitable measures; LWD is member of come into contact to other national and international associations and organizations of the industry, economics and public; exchange experiences with the other members; support its members in all matters which fall in the association s competences; promote its members in operational matters; encourage its members and their employees to advanced training. As a new LWD member S[quadrat] also presented itself at the Wetec from 13th to 15th February, 2014 in Stuttgart at the stand of the association.
