5 () / 99 References The data in this publication are based on test ethods of IEC Publication 9, Part. In as far as any test ethod is not part of this publication, reference has been ade.. Measureent ethod according to IEC 9, using the IEC standard reference heads for professional application. For this purpose, recording heads with a gap length of 7 µ are recoended. These agnetic heads have been used for doestic recording type easureents, since appropriate heads are still under discussion.. Playback equalization on the tape testing equipent is adjusted to provide a flat frequency response of the output voltage when copared with the frequency response section of the appropriate IEC calibration tape (tie constants t = 7 µs or t+t = +8 µs resp. at tape speed 9. c/s, t+t = 9+8 µs at tape speed 9. c/s).. (Reference Level): The reference level / or / resp. corresponds with the reference level section of the IEC calibration tape used.. Reference tape bias definition: Using the relevant IEC calibration tape and the standard reference heads, the bias current providing the iniu third haronic distortion level at the reference level (signal frequency khz) is the reference bias setting. - IEC reference bias definition for doestic recording, using reference tape C 6 Z, is still under discussion. Appropriately, the bias current providing the iniu third haronic distortion level at the reference level (signal frequency Hz) is the reference bias setting.. RBIEC (IEC Reference Bias): This data represents the bias ratio of the relevant IEC reference tape and the tape under test at 9. c/s..6 S6., S (Sensitivity drop for recoended bias setting): Operationally, the recoended bias is set with an input signal of khz (9. c/s) or 6. khz (9. c/s) at - db. Based on the sensitivity curve s S6. or S resp. peak, the bias is increased until the playback level is reduced by the given value S6. or S resp. (see graph).. DCN (DC Noise level): According to IEC 9 a direct current is recorded which is equal to the RMS value of the signal current that is required to produce IEC reference level at khz. Measureent of DC noise level is ade using an RMS eter and a weighting filter network according to IEC 9, part, appendix..6, BN CCIR (Bias Noise level): The bias noise level is easured after operational erasure and HF biasing have been applied and copared to the reference level RLIEC. BNIEC is easured after weighting with an A filter in accordance with IEC 6. BN CCIR is given as a quasi peak reading following filter weighting in accordance with CCIR 68- (as in IEC 9, part, point.)..7 MOL/, MOL/BN CCIR (Dynaic): The signal to bias noise ratio MOL/ results fro the addition of the axiu output level at Hz MOL/ or at khz MOL / and the bias noise level.
