SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS This manual is intended for use by persons with a basic knowledge of electrics. Users who have already worked with similar measuring devices can use a command overview for the necessary commands for each operating step. Additionally, the following examples are designed to provide the individual operating steps. MEANING OF SYMBOLS Instructions which display the caution symbol must be complied with to avoid damage to the MSK 125. This symbol indicates notes for measuring functions or refers to chapters that contain further information on a topic. This symbol is followed by an example of the measurement function being explained. Provides a command overview with the relevant key combinations for the particular measuring function. 7 FUNCTIONALITY The MSK 125 is a mobile multi-purpose measuring device intended for analogue TV and satellite, FM radio and for DVB-C, DVB-S(2) and DVB-T for battery and mains operation. The integrated 6.5 Ah lithium-ion battery and a rechargeable 230 V AC power unit are included in the scope of supply. A microcontroller provides all control functions, keypad polling and display of frequencies and levels on the LCD display. The reception frequency is displayed in MHz. The level is measured with a peak and mean value detector and displayed digitally in dbμv or dbmv. Correction values are determined during the MSK 125 level calibration and stored in an EEPROM. This ensures accurate level measurement. Up to 100 measuring device settings can also be stored. A second microcontroller allows you to store several thousand measurement results on an SD card or to read the SD card (up to 1GB) via USB. The display has a bar graph for transmitter location. Additionally, a level-dependent DF tone makes it possible to align an antenna without having to observe the display. The audio unit with integrated speaker can process and render SAT NF signals, the TV-NF signals of B/G, D/K and I, FM sound signals as well as DVB-C, DVB-T and DVB-S(2). NICAM and AM sound rendering (standard L) is also possible. The remote feed voltage of V/max. 600 ma (in 0.1 Volt steps), the superposition of 22 khz and the ability to transmit DiSEqC TM commands covers all currently known requirements. With DVB-T a 5 V antenna feed voltage can be received at the at the RF socket. The MZV 10 preamplifi er or similar preamplifi ers can also be fed remotely. The built-in transflective 5.7" TFT colour display with its resolution of 640 x 480 pixels allows for picture evaluation of analogue and digital TV and SAT signals in the dark as well as in sunlight. A large black and white LCD display shows the measurement results with very high contrasts. 7

CONNECTIONS RF INPUT Here the reception signal is injected from the antenna system or cable network (coaxial F socket with BNC adapter). The remote feed voltage can be adjusted from 5 V DC to 20 V DC and can also be switched off. When the LNB voltage is on, the right-hand LED lights up green. This LED fl ashes green if there is a short-circuit or overload. If an external supply is used, the LED is red. Please note that there is no voltage level over 120 dbμv, no peak voltage > 100 Volt at the RF input socket. Failure to comply with these values can damage the input circuit! USB PORT The USB port (USB 1.1) allows measurement results to be read from the inserted SD card or a software update to be performed on the slave processor. SD CARD The supplied SD memory card is used to store the measurement results. SD cards up to 1 GB max. can be used. HDMI OUTPUT The HDMI socket (only on the MSK 125/MR) on the front of the measuring device allows the digital video and audio signal to be output to an external HDMI monitor. This output is only available with digital programmes. 14

CONNECTIONS SCART SOCKET The video and audio signal is available at the SCART socket on the front of the MSK 125 for evaluation on an external monitor. The button also allows you to switch to audio/ video input. Incorrect connection wiring can damage the device! COMMON INTERFACE Slot for a common interface. PHONES SOCKET 3.5 mm stereo jack socket for connection of stereo headphones RS 232 INTERFACE The RS 232 port allows you to perform software updates. EXTERNAL DC SUPPLY The MSK 125 can be operated with a mains supply or on its own built-in battery. For mains operation, use the PSU and charger connected to the DC socket on the left-hand side of the MSK 125 enclosure. Use only the power supply unit supplied with the MSK

SET-UP BATTERY OPERATION Note Before operating the device for the fi rst time remove the T 8.0 A fuse from the packaging and place it in the fuse holder. This fuse prevents the device switching on unintentionally during transport. After the fuse has been inserted the charge status display will not function properly until the battery has been fully discharged once. Battery operation is only possible if the battery is charged sufficiently. Otherwise the MSK 125 cannot be switched on. Once the battery has fully discharged it must be recharged immediately to avoid damage to the battery. Charging starts automatically when the device is connected to the mains. A protection circuit prevents the battery from being overcharged. Battery operation is indicated by a red LED next to the button. The battery capacity is 6.45 Ah. Press the button to check the charging status of the lithium-ion battery. The LCD display shows the following values: LNB or remote feed voltage: 14.0 V LNB or remote feed current: 255 ma 22 khz switched on Battery charge status: 80 % Bar graph (8 x 10 %) Press the button again to exit this operating mode. 16

SET-UP MAINS AND BATTERY OPERATION MAINS OPERATION The MSK 125 can be operated with a mains supply or its own built-in battery. Remove the AC power unit supplied (100 V V) from its packaging and use it to connect the device to the mains supply. The integrated lithium-ion battery and the green LED next to the button indicate the external power supply. For mains operation use only the charger/power unit supplied. The power unit is connected to the XLR power supply socket on the left side of the device. The device should be connected to the mains supply from time to time if it not used for a while (trickle charge). Note: A 12 V vehicle supply cable can be obtained through our customer service (article no.: BF) (supplier ESC, see Customer Service for the address). 32 SAT DISEQC TM (DIGITAL SATELLITE EQUIPMENT CONTROLLER) STRUCTURAL ARRANGEMENT OF THE DISEQC TM CONTROLLER SIGNAL The DiSEqC TM system is used to control systems with enhanced control facilities. DiSEqC TM uses a serial, bi-directional transmission process with a master and one or more slaves. The data bits are generated with pulse width modulation of the already existent 22 khz carrier and are superimposed with 600 mv SS of the LNB remote feeding voltage. The digital code words are composed of 8 data bits and one additional parity bit for the recognition of transmission errors. Multiple code words form one DiSEqC TM command. Code words are entered in hex code. Code words Parity bit The MSK 125 can send signals based on DiSEqC TM 1.0 but not receive them. COMMAND OVERVIEW FOR DISEQC TM If a DiSEqC TM matrix is activated with a DiSEqC TM command, the analogue LNB control voltage must first be set to the correct satellite frequency plane, i.e. if a vertical satellite frequency plane is required, the analogue LNB control voltage must be set to 14 V. The correct DiSEqC TM command can then be selected and sent. Launch DiSEqC TM menu The TFT screen provides a selection of the most important DiSEqC TM commands for four satellite positions and their assignment of high band and low band as well as their Horizontal or Vertical polarisation.
