5 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1. VERSIONS EWCM 900 is a contolle dedicated to contolling the compession and condensation phases, by managing the compessos and fans, fo applications in efigeation plants. The instument contols moe than one compesso, of the ecipocating type, even with diffeent powes and stepped-capacities (patialisations): - simple homogeneous units (no powe factionating), - multiple stage homogeneous units (multiple stages with the same powe) - simple, non homogeneous units. Futhemoe, it is also possible to contol the fans of the condensing unit. The instument can contol the esouces (fans, compessos, with espective steps) by using 11 elay outputs, assigned by configuation GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS EWCM 900 is available in the vesions fo pessue o tempeatue input, both having the same type of contol and egulation. The inputs detect the conditions of the compesso section (suction) and the fan section (delivey). Pessue tansduces: with 4 20 ma cuent signal, of type EWPA 007, 030. Tempeatue pobe: with NTC type senso. Compesso and fan contol: 11 outputs on elays fo contolling the esouces (condensation fans and compessos), with coesponding alam inputs enegised. Resouces enabled accoding to a fixed sequence o otation (to equalise the opeation times o the esouces. Alam detection though digital (fom pessuestats and esouces) and analogic (fom pobe o tansduce) inputs, fo both sections, based on specific paametes. Setting the paametes and display of the opeation vaiables by means of quantities and units of measue that can be use-selected: pessue (Ba, PSI), in the elative o absolute scale, tempeatue ( C, F). Contol of the sections (compessos and fans) by means of two sepaate displays (thee- and fou-digit espectively). Two setpoints pogammable accoding to the time-peiod (nomal and educed ate). Seial connection fo the Televis / EWTD system. Safety system that caies out a continuous inspection on the opeation of the instument hadwae: if thee is EWCM failue o a powe failue, the "safety" elay output is enabled, and tansfes contol of the plant to a device pepaed fo emegency, thus ensuing minimum opeation until expet pesonnel ae able to come. Reduced Setpoint: this is the wok setpoint that can be set in those moments of less involvement of the plant (e.g. duing night hous and on holidays), and so save enegy. Pess and elease the SET key to display the nomal setpoint in the unit of measuement chosen as standad in the paametes pogamming phase. Pess the SET key epeatedly to display the nomal setpoint consecutively, in the diffeent units of measuement, and then the educed setpoint in the diffeent units. The selection of the type of unit of measuement is indicated by the Ba, o PSI o C o F LED switching on. The active setpoint is indicated by the coesponding pilot LED switching on (LED N Nomal and LED R Reduced). To modify the value of the setpoint displayed pess the UP and DOWN keys diectly. The following paagaphs descibe some pocedues egading the compesso and fan states. Note that fo the compessos the opeation duation is efeed to the whole compesso, wheeas the states of the esouces and maintenance ae efeed to the compesso with its stepped-capacity (patialisation) (if pesent). Example: two compessos, each with two stepped-capacity (patialisation) (total 3+3 steps, set as esouces 1 6, see fig. 2). Displays egading the esouces: fo the duation of opeation 1, 4 (ed LEDs); fo the state of maintenance 1 (ed, combined with 2, 3 geen), 4 (ed, plus 5, 6 geen); fo the state of the esouces 1,2,3,4,5,6 (ed and geen LEDs depending on the type of esouce and eventual timings) DISPLAY OF THE STATE OF THE RESOURCES COMPRESSORS The connections of the esouces ae conditioned by the call (situation of plant)and by the delay paametes. In the same way, disconnection entails tiggeing the elease of the esouce in use and espect of the delays set. If set, the esouce connection delay (compesso o stepped-capacity (patialisation)) is signalled by the coesponding geen LED flashing, that lasts fom call to connection. Once connected, the LEDs stay on continuously: ed (fo the compessos) geen (fo stepped-capacity (patialisation)). The delay egading the elease of the esouce is signalled by the flashing of the coesponding geen LED. At the moment of disconnection, the LEDs mentioned, switch off. Fo alams egading digital inputs, the LED associated with the compesso flashes, with the ALARM LED on continuously and the display showing the alam code FANS The connections and disconnections ae linked, as fo the compessos, to the tiggeing (in tems of esouces needed) and the delays set. The display is simila to the pevious one, but only the yellow LEDs ae efeed to. Afte the call and until connection, the LED coesponding to the fan involved flashes. If the LED is on continuously, the coesponding esouce is in opeation. Duing elease the LED flashes fo the duation of the delay connected. On disconnection the LED switches off. 18

19 If the alam coesponds to a digital input, the LED associated with it flashes, with the "ALARM" LED on continuously and the alam code on the display DURATION OF COMPRESSOR AND VALVE OPERATION DISPLAY Pess and elease the HRS key: the HRS LED switches on and stays on. The duation of opeation of the fist compesso is displayed, in hous. Pess the UP key within 5 seconds to pass to the next compessos. The ed LED flashes (state of the compessos, above) to indicate which compesso has been selected. Afte the last compesso has been displayed, pess the UP key again and the duation of opeation of the fans is displayed ZERO SETTING Fo each compesso, zeo setting of the time of opeation is obtained by holding down the MUTE key FANS Afte the display egading the last compesso, pess the UP key again to display the numbe of hous of opeation of the fans. The duation can be set to zeo, as explained at the pevious paagaph; yet fo the fans the duation of opeation has no effect on the equest fo maintenance with the consequent disabling (see paamete SE ) AVAILABLE / IN MAINTENANCE STATE DISPLAY Pess and elease the MAINT key: the MAINT key switches on and stays on. The state of the fist compesso is displayed. The state is indicated on the display as follows: onln (on Line) = compesso available ofln (off Line) = compesso in maintenance. Pess the UP key within 5 seconds to pass to the next compessos. The ed LED flashing (state of the compessos) indicates which compesso has been selected. Afte the display of the last compesso, pess the UP key to display the states egading the fans MODIFICATION The state of the compesso selected is modified by pessing the MUTE key fo moe than 5 seconds: the MAINT LED flashes. The change of state is indicated on the display (label onln, ofln ). The in maintenance state continues being signalled, fo each compesso, by the flashing of the coesponding ed LED and the geen LEDs egading the capacity stepping (patialisation) (if pesent). The output is always disabled when the compesso is in maintenance FANS Afte the display egading the last compesso, pess the UP key again to display and if necessay, modify the states egading the fans, as at the peceding paagaph. 7. DIAGNOSTICS The following conditions ae signalled by the LEDs switching on and messages appeaing on the display, as will be explained in detail. The messages displayed on the left, compesso section, ae peceded by the abbeviation E. Those displayed on the ight, fan section, ae peceded by E. If an alam is tiggeed, the ALARM LED of the section egading the alam (compessos o fans) is on. Fo all alams, the alam output is enabled (teminals 1 and 2 closed) ALARM DIGITAL INPUTS 19

20 The digital inputs supply two types of alam, caused, espectively, by the tiggeing of the pessuestat (2 inputs) and the devices associated with each esouce (11 inputs). Do not exceed the maximum cuent allowed fo the diffeent outputs (check on the afoementioned label). Fo geate loads, use a contacto of suitable chaacteistics. The tempeatue pobes need no insetion polaity; thei cables can be extended by using nomal twin wie flex (the extension has an impotance on the behaviou of the instument electomagnetic capabilities; geat cae must be taken with the cables). Fo the pessue tansduces, espect the insetion polaity. It would be best to use tansduces capable of accepting a non-egulated powe voltage. In paticula, it is advisable to use the EWPA 007 and 030 tansduces, fo measuing the high pessue (delivey) and low-pessue (suction) sections. Seial connection fo Televis / EWTD: pay paticula attention to the electomagnetic intefeence. It is advisable top use Belden-type sceened twin flex. The pobe cables, tansduces and seial connections must be sepaated fom the wies of the elay contacts and fom all pats with dangeous voltage, in geneal, by using insulation and distances that guaantee at least double o einfoced insulation. Fo electomagnetic compatibility, it would be advisable to do the sepaation by using sepaate insulating ducts and pope fastening methods fo the cables. 9. PERMITTED USE Fo safety easons the instument must be installed and used accoding to the instuctions supplied: in paticula, unde nomal conditions, pats beaing dangeous voltages must not be accessible. The device must be suitably potected fom wate and dust and must also only be accessible by using a tool (except the font panel). The device may be incopoated in appliances o plants used fo efigeation and it has been inspected unde the safety aspects, accoding to the Euopean Equalised Regulations used fo efeence. It may be classified: Accoding to its constuction as an automatic, electonic, standalone contol device, to be incopoated in a plant. Accoding to its automatic opeating featues as a contol device, 1 BY type; As a Class A device, accoding to the class and stuctue of the softwae it uses. 10. USES NOT ALLOWED Any othe use diffeent fom that allowed is pohibited. We point out that elay contacts ae of the functional type, and theefoe subject to beakdown. Any potection devices equied by the ules concening this poduct o dictated by common sense due to obvious safety easons should be applied outside the instument. 11. RESPONSIBILITY AND RESIDUAL RISKS Eliwell / Invensys Climate Contols Italia is not liable fo any damages deiving fom: installation/use diffeent fom that intended and, in paticula, not confoming to the safety standads pescibed by the egulations and/o heewith given in this technical sheet use on appliances that do not guaantee adequate potection against electical shock, wate and dust unde the conditions of assembly ealised; use on appliances that allow access to dangeous pats without the use of tools o without wanings; 22
