10 PRPARATION PRPARATION STAND INSTALLATION (xcept for 60PS0**) Image shown may differ from your TV. When assembling the desk type stand, check whether the bolt is fully tightened. (If not tightened fully, the product can tilt forward after the product installation.) If you tighten the bolt with excessive force, the bolt can deviate from abrasion of the tightening part of the bolt. Carefully place the TV screen side down on a cushioned surface to protect the screen from damage. BACK COVR FOR WIR ARRANGMNT Image shown may differ from your TV. After Connecting the cables as necessary, install CABL HOLDR as shown and bundle the cables. Assemble the TV as shown. CABL HOLDR Only 60PS0** Install the CABL MANAGMNT CLIP as shown. CABL MANAG- MNT CLIP Fix the bolts securely using the holes in the back of the TV. How to remove the cable management clip Hold the CABL MANAGMNT CLIP with both hands and pull it upward.! NOT FRONT G When assembling the stand, make sure to distinguish and assemble the front and rear side of the stand correctly. DSKTOP PDSTAL INSTALLATION For adequate ventilation allow a clearance of (0cm) all around the TV.! NOT G Do not use the CABL MANAGMNT CLIP to lift the TV. - If the TV is dropped, you may be injured or the TV may be damaged. NOT USING TH DSK-TYP STAND Image shown may differ from your TV. 11 CARFUL INSTALLATION ADVIC A You should purchase necessary components to fix the TV safety and secure to the wall from the market. A Position the TV close to the wall to avoid the possibility of it falling when pushed. A The instructions shown below are a safer way to set up the TV, by fixing it to the wall, avoiding the possibility of it falling forwards if pulled. This will prevent the TV from falling forward and causing injury. This will also prevent the TV from damage. nsure that children do not climb or hang from the TV. Use the eye-bolts or TV brackets/bolts to fix the product to the wall as shown in the picture. (If your TV has bolts in the eyebolts, loosen then bolts.) * Insert the eye-bolts or TV brackets/bolts and tighten them securely in the upper holes. Secure the wall brackets with the bolts on the wall. Match the height of the bracket that is mounted on the wall. A The TV can be installed in various ways such as on a wall, or on a desktop etc. A The TV is designed to be mounted horizontally. WALL MOUNT: HORIZONTAL INSTALLATION A We recommend the use of a LG Brand wall mounting bracket when mounting the TV to a wall. A We recommend that you purchase a wall mounting bracket which supports VSA standard. A LG recommends that wall mounting be performed by a qualified professional installer.! NOT G Should Install wall mount on a solid wall perpendicular to the floor. G Should use a special wall mount, if you want to install it to ceiling or slanted wall. G The surface that wall mount is to be mounted on should be of sufficient strength to support the weight of TV set; e.g. concrete, natural rock, brick and hollow block. G Installing screw type and length depends on the wall mount used. Further information, refer to the instructions included with the mount. G LG is not liable for any accidents or damage to property or TV due to incorrect installation: - Where a non-compliant VSA wall mount is used. - Incorrect fastening of screws to surface which may cause TV to fall and cause personal injury. - Not following the recommended Installation method. inches PRPARATION inches inches inches Use a sturdy rope to tie the product for alignment. 12 PRPARATION To prevent damage do not connect to the mains outlet until all connections are made between the devices. ANTNNA CONNCTION For optimum picture quality, adjust antenna direction. An antenna cable and converter are not supplied. If signal needs to be split for two TVs,use an antenna signal splitter for connection. SWIVL STAND After installing the TV, you can adjust the TV manually to the left or right direction by 0 degrees to suit your viewing position. 0

13 XTRNAL QUIPMNT STUP To avoid damaging any equipment, never plug in any power cords until you have finished connecting all equipment. This section on XTRNAL QUIPMNT STUP mainly uses diagrams for the PQ0** models. Image shown may differ from your TV. HD RCIVR STUP This TV can receive Digital RF/Cable signals without an external digital set-top box. However, if you do receive Digital signals from a digital set-top box or other digital external device, refer to the diagram as shown below. Connecting with a component cable (xcept for /50PQ0**, /50PQ**) Connect the video outputs (Y, PB, PR) of the digital set top box to the COMPONNT IN VIDO jacks on the TV. Connect the audio output of the digital set-top box to the COMPONNT IN AUDIO jacks on the TV. Turn on the digital set-top box. (Refer to the owner s manual for the digital set-top box.) Select Component input source using the INPUT button on the remote control. Turn on the digital set-top box. (Refer to the owner s manual for the digital set-top box.) Select HDMI, HDMI or HDMI input source using the INPUT button on the remote control. NOT G Check that your HDMI cable is version. or higher. If the HDMI cables don t support HDMI version., flickering or no screen display can result. Please use the latest cables that support at least HDMI version.. HDMI/DVI IN Connecting with an HDMI to DVI cable (xcept for /50PQ0**, /50PQ**) Connect the digital set-top box to HDMI/DVI IN jack on the TV. HDMI IN Connect the audio output of the digital set-top box to the AUDIO IN (RGB/DVI) jack on the TV. HDMI/DVI IN Turn on the digital set-top box. (Refer to the owner s manual for the digital set-top box.) Select HDMI input source using the INPUT button on the remote control.

15 DVD STUP Connecting with a component cable (xcept for /50PQ0**, /50PQ**) Connect the video outputs (Y, PB, PR) of the DVD to the COMPONNT IN VIDO jacks on the TV. 5 Connect the audio outputs of the DVD to the COMPONNT IN AUDIO jacks on the TV. Turn on the DVD player, insert a DVD. Select Component input source using the INPUT button on the remote control. Refer to the DVD player's manual for operating instructions. 17 Connecting with a S-Video cable (xcept for /50PQ0**, /50PQ**) Connect the S-VIDO output of the DVD to the S - VIDO input on the TV. VIDO S-VIDO L R ANT IN 5 Connect the audio outputs of the DVD to the AUDIO input jacks on the TV. Turn on the DVD player, insert a DVD. Select AV input source using the INPUT button on the remote control. Refer to the DVD player's manual for operating instructions. VIDO L/MONO AUDIO R S-VIDO HDMI IN AV IN OUTPUT SWITCH ANT OUT XTRNAL QUIPMNT STUP Connecting the HDMI cable Connect the HDMI output of the DVD to the HDMI/DVI IN, HDMI IN, HDMI IN or HDMI IN jack on the TV. NOT G The TV can receive video and audio signals simultaneously when using a HDMI cable. G If the DVD does not support Auto HDMI, you must set the output resolution appropriately. 18 XTRNAL QUIPMNT STUP VCR STUP To avoid picture noise (interference), allow adequate distance between the VCR and TV. Connecting with a RF Cable XTRNAL QUIPMNT STUP ANT OUT ANT IN S-VIDO OUTPUT SWITCH Wall Jack VIDO L R Antenna Connect the ANT OUT socket of the VCR to the ANTNNA IN socket on the TV. Connect the antenna cable to the ANT IN socket of the VCR. Press the PLAY button on the VCR and match the appropriate channel between the TV and VCR for viewing. 6

19 Connecting with a uro Scart cable Connect the uro scart socket of the VCR to the AV uro scart socket on the TV. Insert a video tape into the VCR and press PLAY on the VCR. (Refer to the VCR owner s manual.) Select AV input source using the INPUT button on the remote control. If connected to AV uro scart socket, select AV input source. 20 XTRNAL QUIPMNT STUP Connecting with a RCA cable (xcept for /50PQ0**, /50PQ**) Connect the AUDIO/VIDO jacks between TV and VCR. Match the jack colours (Video = yellow, Audio Left = white, and Audio Right = red) Insert a video tape into the VCR and press PLAY on the VCR. (Refer to the VCR owner s manual.) VIDO L/MONO AUDIO R S AV IN XTRNAL QUIPMNT STUP! Select AV input source using the INPUT button on the remote control. NOT G If you have a mono VCR, connect the audio cable from the VCR to the AUDIO L/MONO jack of the TV. S-VIDO VIDO OUTPUT SWITCH L R ANT IN ANT OUT Connecting with a S-Video cable (xcept for /50PQ0**, /50PQ**) Connect the S-VIDO output of the VCR to the S - VIDO input on the TV set. The picture quality is improved; compared to normal composite (RCA cable) input. Connect the audio outputs of the VCR to the AUDIO input jacks on the TV. Insert a video tape into the VCR and press PLAY on the VCR. (Refer to the VCR owner s manual.) Select AV input source with using the INPUT button on the remote control. NOT G If both S-VIDO and VIDO sockets have been connected to the S-VHS VCR simultaneously, only the S-VIDO can be received. 8

21 INSRTION OF CI MODUL - To view the encrypted ( pay) services in digital TV mode. - This item is not included for all countries.! NOT Insert the CI Module to PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card International Association) CARD SLOT of TV as shown. For further information, see p.. G Check if the CI module is inserted into the PCMCIA card slot in the right direction. If the module is not inserted properly, this can cause damage to the TV and the PCMCIA card slot. DIGITAL AUDIO OUT STUP Sending the TV s audio signal to external audio equipment via the Digital Audio Output (Optical) port. If you want to enjoy digital broadcasting through 5.-channel speakers, connect the OPTICAL DIGITAL AUDIO OUT terminal on the back of TV to a DVD Home Theater (or amp). XTRNAL QUIPMNT STUP Connect one end of an optical cable to the TV Digital Audio (Optical) Output port. Connect the other end of the optical cable to the digital audio (Optical) input on the audio equipment. IN Set the TV Speaker option - Off in the AUDIO menu.( G p.89). Refer to the external audio equipment instruction manual for operation. VI IN CAUTION GDo not look into the optical output port. Looking at the laser beam may damage your vision. 9

22 XTRNAL QUIPMNT STUP OTHR A/V SOURC STUP (xcept for /50PQ0**, /50PQ**) Connect the AUDIO/VIDO jacks between TV and external equipment. Match the jack colours. (Video = yellow, Audio Left = white, and Audio Right = red) Camcorder Video Game Set XTRNAL QUIPMNT STUP Select AV input source using the INPUT button on the remote control. Operate the corresponding external equipment. Refer to external equipment operating guide. AUDIO L/MONO R VIDO S-VIDO HDMI IN AV IN VIDO L R USB STUP (xcept for /50PQ0**, /50PQ**) Connect the USB device to the USB IN jacks on the side of TV. 23 PC STUP(xcept for /50PQ0**, /50PQ**) This TV provides Plug and Play capability, meaning that the PC adjusts automatically to the TV's settings. Connecting with a D-sub 5 pin cable HDMI IN Connect the RGB output of the PC to the RGB IN (PC) jack on the TV. Connect the PC audio output to the AUDIO IN (RGB/DVI) jack on the TV. Turn on the PC and the TV Select RGB input source using the INPUT button on the remote control. HDMI/DVI IN XTRNAL QUIPMNT STUP AUDIO RGB OUTPUT Connecting with a HDMI to DVI cable Connect the DVI output of the PC to the HDMI/DVI IN jack on the TV. Avoid allowing a fixed image to remain on the screen for prolonged periods. Orbiter Orbiter may help prevent ghost images. However, it is best not to allow any fixed image to remain on the screen. When you select a Time Zone city, the TV time is set by the time offset information based on Time Zone and GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) which is received with the broadcast signal and the time is set automatically by a digital signal. Once Clock is set in DTV mode, you cannot change time, but if the city name in Time Zone is changed into offset, you can change time by hour. LIST Q.VIW The teletext decoder of this TV can support the SIMPL, TOP and FASTXT systems. SIMPL (standard teletext) consists of a number of pages which are selected by directly entering the corresponding page number. TOP and FASTXT are more modern methods allowing quick and easy selection of teletext information. SWITCH ON/OFF MNU MUT RTURN / XIT Press the TXT button to switch to teletext. The initial page or last page viewed appears on the screen. Two page numbers, TV station name, date and time are displayed on the screen headline.
