April 17, a.m. to 1 p.m. Take I-70 West from downtown KCMO to the Minnesota Avenue exit. Enter the parking lot situated just north of EPA Region 7 Headquarters. Follow the Signs. Clean out that closet, empty the basement, and bring your old stuff to this special event. Here s a list of items that you can bring to be recycled: Computers Monitors Peripherals Personal Copiers Printers and Scanners Fax Machines DVD Players Cell Phones PDAs, Game Boys VCRs, Cameras Televisions Telephones Stereos, Radios, Turntables, Tape Players Typewriters This is a "no limit" " drop off program; bring as much as you want. UNICOR (Federal Prison Industries, Inc.) will test equipment for reuse. All hard drives will be wiped with Department of Defense approved software. Monitors will be evaluated for reuse, recycling into color TVs, or sent to a glass recycling facility; electronics that cannot be reused will be demanufactured and sold for their commodity value.

The items will be refurbished and distributed to area nonprofit organizations by the Kansas City recycling organization Surplus Exchange. Items that can not be refurbished will be recycled or sold to cover expenses. While no fee applies for most items, a small recycling fee may be charged for items such as non-working SVGA monitors, microwave ovens, televisions, printers, and scanners. 6 Wednesday, February 18, 2009 Best Buy takes electronics-recycling program nationwide Atlanta Business Chronicle - by John Vomhof Jr. Best Buy Co. Inc. has expanded its electronics-recycling program to all of its 1,006 U.S. stores, the company announced Tuesday. The Richfield, Minn.-based consumer-electronics retailer started testing the program at 117 stores in eight states last June, including all of its Minnesota locations. The program allows consumers to bring up to two units per day, per household, to any U.S. Best Buy store for recycling. Stores will accept most consumer electronics, including televisions and monitors up to 32 inches, desktop and notebook computers, small electronics, VCRs, DVD players and phones, as well as accessories such as keyboards, mice and remotes. Best Buy charges a $10 recycling fee for items with screens, including televisions, laptops and monitors. However, customers with those items will receive a $10 Best Buy gift card in exchange for the recycling fee. The fee does not apply to units recycled in California or for Best Buy store-branded products, such as Insignia, Dynex and VPR Matrix. Best Buy does not accept televisions or monitors larger than 32 inches; console televisions; items that contain Freon, including air conditioners, dehumidifiers and mini refrigerators; microwaves; and large appliances. The program now is available in all 50 states, and Best Buy (NYSE: BBY) hopes to extend the program to Puerto Rico soon, spokeswoman Kelly Groehler said.
