1 125 th Anniversary Logo Style Guide OUACHITA 125 th ANNIVERSARY BAPTIST LOGO: INTRODUCTION UNIVERSITY 1
2 Introduction Ouachita Baptist University s 125 th anniversary logo reflects the university s rich history and bright future. The traditional torch and flame design from the university seal symbolizes Ouachita s historic commitment to truth and learning. The cross affirms the university s faithfulness as a Christ-centered learning community. The prominent 125 design points both to the past and future with the 125 celebrating a century and a quarter of quality higher education and the modern, stylized type looking expectantly toward ongoing achievement and impact. At the heart of the logo is a bold, gold OUACHITA, reminiscent of the alma mater s beloved O-U-A-C-H-I-T-A refrain. It is a reminder that Ouachita Baptist University stands at the center of efforts to educate and equip students of past, present and future generations. The purple and gold color scheme is a tribute to Tiger spirit recognized by Ouachitonians on campus and around the globe. The anniversary logo was commissioned by the 125 th Anniversary Steering Committee. It was designed by René Zimny, assistant director of the Grant Center for International Education and coordinator of international recruiting. Zimny, a native of Namibia, is a 2008 Ouachita graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in graphic design and mass communications. 125 th ANNIVERSARY LOGO: INTRODUCTION 2
3 Logo Variations The anniversary combination mark combines Ouachita s recognizable torch and flame, 125 signifying the anniversary and reference to the university s commitment to Making a Difference since its 1886 founding. The combination mark is available in vertical and horizontal formats to be used appropriately according to the available space. The combination mark should be used in settings addressing external audiences or when clarification is needed to explain ties to the university or its anniversary. The logo which forms the primary portion of the combination mark may be used independently of the tagline below it, but the text tagline may not be used independently of the logo. The logo may be used when communicating with internal constituents or when space does not allow for the larger combination mark. All uses of the anniversary logo must be approved by Ouachita s offfice of Communications. 4 Colors The anniversary logo uses Ouachita purple, gold and white as defined below. The 125, white border, torch and flame should all appear in white, not cut out or reversed. One-color variations are available in black or purple, as shown below. In these versions, the Ouachita and surrounding rules should appear in white, not gray. The tagline should always appear the same color as the logo when used on a light background. It is preferred for the logo to be used on light backgrounds, but when it it necessary to place the logo on a dark background (such as black or purple) the colors of the logo remain the same, and a white outline is added to the logo. 6 Non-Infringement Area The anniversary mark should not be in competition with surrounding visual elements, including text, pictures and the edge of the document. For this reason, a non-infringement zone is designated below, measuring one-half the width of the stand-alone logo. x x The non-infringement zone is half the width of the stand-alone logo (x). Suggested Sizes The anniversary logo should not be used on printed materials smaller than indicated below. The vertical combination mark should be printed no smaller than 1 high. The horizontal combination mark and stand-alone logo should be printed no smaller than 0.75 high high 125 th ANNIVERSARY LOGO: NON-INFRINGEMENT AREA & SUGGESTED SIZES 6
7 Improper Uses To maintain a consistent identity, the logo should be used only according to the established guidelines and must be approved by Ouachita s Office of Communications. Do not stretch or distort the logo. Other improper uses are shown below. Do not stretch the logo. Do not rotate the logo. Do not use unauthorized colors. Do not combine elements of the logo in unauthorized ways or distort the proportions of various elements. 8 Type Styles The logo and accompanying 125 th anniversary materials should use two font families: Adobe Garamond Pro and Akzidenz-Grotesk BQ. Any font or weight from those families is acceptable. Some, but not all, acceptable examples are shown below.
