10 Introduction

1 Setting U the Projector This chater describes how to unack the rojector, connect it to other equiment, and turn it on. Before it can roject any images, the rojector must be connected to a video source, such as a comuter, VCR, camcorder, or DVD layer. If you want, you can connect your rojector to both a comuter and a second video source. You can also do any of the following: Connect the rojector to an audio source for one or both video sources. The audio source can be the comuter, a video device caable of roducing audio (such as a VCR or camcorder), or another device such as a stereo. 11

Connect the mouse cable to use the remote control as a wireless mouse. Excet for some latos, this disables your comuter s mouse. If you are also viewing the dislay on your monitor, the remote control s ointer controls the screen cursor. Connect the rojector to an external seaker or ublic address (PA) system to amlify the audio. Unacking the Projector When you unack the rojector, make sure you have all these comonents: Projector Remote control 2 AA batteries Power cord 12 1 Setting U the Projector

Projector video cable Audio cable Audio/video (A/V) cable PS/2 mouse cable (for the PC) Mac mouse cable (for the Macintosh) Hand stra (with 2 screws) Soft carrying case Unacking the Projector 13

Macintosh adater set: Macintosh deskto adater Macintosh monitor adater Additional Comonents You will not need all these comonents. Save all ackaging in case you need to shi the rojector in the future. Always transort the rojector in its original ackaging (or the equivalent) or use a carrying case if you are carrying the rojector by hand. (See Transorting the Projector on age 137 for instructions.) Deending on how you lan to use the rojector, you may need these additional comonents: For comlete control of the rojector from your comuter or to rogram enhanced secial effects on the remote control, you need the otional ELP Link III kit. You can urchase the kit from your dealer or by calling EPSON Accessories at (800) (U.S. sales only) Setting U the Projector

To receive an S-Video signal, you will need an S-Video cable. (One is usually rovided with your video device.) A searate cable is required for each video source. To connect the rojector to a Macintosh PowerBook, you may need a video-out cable and an adater. (The video-out cable is rovided by or can be urchased from Ale Comuter for all PowerBooks that have video-out caability and require the cable. If your PowerBook doesn t include one, see your Macintosh dealer. Additionally, some PowerBooks come with an adater for a high-density, 15-in, VGA connector.) To connect the rojector to an external sound system, you need an RCA-to-3.5 mm stereo audio cable. You can obtain one from your comuter dealer. To use the remote control when the rojector is not in line-of-sight of the remote, you need an otional infrared reeater. For more information, call (800) or visit this web address: To connect a serial mouse cable to your comuter, you may require a secial connector, cable, or other comonents. You can obtain these items from your comuter dealer. To rotect your rojector, you can connect a Kensington MicroSaver anti-theft device in the hole on the back of the rojector. Contact your local comuter dealer. Unacking the Projector 15

Attaching the Hand Stra Follow the stes below to attach the hand stra to the rojector with the two screws included with the stra. 1. If you urchased the otional ELP Link III kit, you can assign different functions to the Effects buttons, and even rogram the buttons with your own customized functions. (See Assigning Functions to the Effects Buttons on age 102.) Follow these stes to install the batteries: 1. Slide off the battery comartment cover. 2. Insert the two AA batteries included with the rojector. Make sure the olarity of the batteries is correct Setting U the Projector

3. Relace the battery comartment cover. When relacing batteries, take the following recautions: Don t mix old and new batteries. Relace batteries as soon as they run out. If the batteries leak, wie away battery fluid with a soft cloth. If fluid gets on your hands, wash them immediately. Remove the batteries if you lan not to use the rojector for a long eriod of time. Where to Place the Projector Before you start connecting cables, decide where you want to lace the rojector and comuter or video source. Follow these guidelines: Place the rojector on a sturdy, level surface within five feet of your comuter or video source. Remember not to lace the rojector near sources of heat, or in a location where the cord is likely to be steed on. Because the distance between the rojector and screen determines image size, osition the rojector the roer distance from the screen for the size image you want to roject. Use the following table to determine the correct distance. (For more recise calculations, see age 52.) Where to Place the Projector 19

Note: In addition to front rojection, your rojector suorts rear and ceiling rojection. To use rear or ceiling rojection, you need to select the Ceiling or Rear Projection mode in the Setting menu. 51 Connecting to a Video Source Other Than a Comuter In addition to your comuter, you can connect a VCR, camcorder, DVD layer, or any other comatible video source to your rojector. If you want, you can connect a single video source, such as a VCR. You don t have to connect a comuter unless you want to use the otional ELP Link III software. You can also connect a comuter lus a second video source simultaneously. If your video source has audio caability, it can also be an audio source. The rojector can receive comosite video or S-Video: If your video device has a one-in RCA video jack, it s a comosite video source. Use the audio/video (A/V) cable sulied with the rojector to connect the rojector to your video device. If your video device has a four-in video jack, it s an S-Video source. To connect the video device to your rojector, use the S-Video cable sulied with your video device, or obtain an S-Video cable from your comuter dealer. Note: The rojector is not comatible with a cable TV-style F connector. If both a comosite video and S-Video device are connected to the rojector, the rojector automatically selects S-Video as the default video source. To dislay comosite video, disconnect the S-Video device. Connecting to a Video Source Other Than a Comuter 43

The rojector suorts NTSC, PAL, PAL60, and SECAM video formats, and automatically detects and identifies the video format. However, if automatic selection is not ossible for some reason, you can secify that a secific video format be detected (see age 74). Note: If you change the Video Signal setting in the Setting menu to secify a articular video format, the rojector will be able to detect only the format secified. To have the rojector automatically detect any suorted video format, reset the Video Signal setting to Auto. Follow these stes to connect a video device: 1. Turn off the rojector and video device, if they re on. 2. Locate the aroriate video cable: If your video source has a large, round, four-rong S-Video connector, use the cable that came with your video device, or urchase an S-Video cable from your comuter dealer. If your video source has a small, round, one-rong comosite (RCA) video connector, use the audio/video (A/V) cable that came with the rojector. (The A/V cable has three RCA lugs on either end of the cable.) 44 1 Setting U the Projector

3. For S-Video, insert one end of an S-Video cable into the rojector s S-Video In connector. Insert the other end into the S-Video Out jack on your video device.
