5 Grammar [Past Simple and Past Continuous ] We can talk about an action which was in progress when another action interrupted it using the past continuous and the past simple. The action in progress past continuous. The action which interrupts the action in the progress past simple. We join the two actions using while. Examples While I was studying, my friend called me. The doorbell rang while she was sleeping. While my brothers were playing,my father came. Mum arrived while my sisters were cleaning. Note 1 (while) can come at the beginning or in the middle of sentences. After (while) we use past continuous. Note 2 If (while) comes at the beginning of the sentence we put a comma (, ) in the middle of this sentence. If (while) comes at the middle of the sentence we don't put a comma (, ) before( while). 5
