The exsng WWTF was commssoned n Sepember The Nederland WWTF s permed o rea an average flow of 0.25 mllon gallons per day (MGD). Currenly, wase acvaed sludge from he SBR s reurned o he Inegraed Surge Anoxc Tank (ISAM) where combnes wh mechancally screened nfluen. Solds are pumped a varyng nervals from he ISAM o an on-se solds holdng pond. Solds from he pond are conrac dewaered and hauled as needed, hough haulng has no been requred snce he commssonng of he new facly. The solds holdng pond produces odors perodcally, especally durng he summer monhs and durng conrac dewaerng. The Town has receved a leer on February 23, 2015 wh odor warnngs from he Colorado Deparmen of Publc Healh and he Envronmen (CDPHE) wh a penales of up o $15,000 a day f odors are no mgaed. The purpose of hs sudy was o evaluae an economcally and envronmenally susanable soluon for long-erm solds handlng and processng. The proposed upgrades mus be capable of reang bosolds o eher Class B or Class A sandards per he Uned Saes Envronmenal Proecon Agency (EPA) 40 CFR Par 503 Regulaons. The prmary goals of he Town are o reduce odors, reduce operaon coss, and mprove susanably. The alernaves consdered n hs sudy wll no modfy he currenly permed hydraulc or organc capacy of he WWTF. The alernaves evaluaed were desgned o rea he solds produced a a permed desgn flow of 0.25 MGD, wh he poenal for expanson a a laer dae. The solds process and handlng facles could be consruced n hree phases, dependng on he avalably of projec fundng. A summary of he projec phases s as follows: Phase 1 - The frs phase o produce Class B bosolds nvolves consrucng an aerobc dgeser for he 0.25 MGD WWTF capacy n order o mprove volale suspended solds (VSS) desrucon and hckenng.
