3 THE INCREDIBLE MOVING PICTUREHOUSE Thursday 2 - Thursday 9 March While we have theatre events on in The Dukes, we ll be ensuring you still get your film fix with the return of The Incredlbie Moving Picturehouse. This spectacular one-ofa-kind transforms from an unassuming lorry into an indoor 100-seat mobile cinema. The Picturehouse will be arriving in Lancaster with a packed programme of new releases including Prevenge, Toni Erdmann, The Eagle Huntress and Loving. The Picturehouse puts the show on the road literally. The UK s only HGV-based mobile cinema screen equipped with DCI digital projection, temperature control and 100 comfortable seats. The impressive 36 and a half tonnes of truck extends out to 55ft long, 22ft wide and 15ft tall and sits on 18 wheels. The Picturehouse will be located behind The Dukes on Brewery Lane, a short walk from our building. Ticket sales and collection will be handled through our Box Office as normal. TONI ERDMANN (15) Dir. Maren Ade 2017 Germany 162mins Subtitles With: Sandra Hüller Friday 3 - Thursday 9 March (except Tuesday 7) An acclaimed comedy about the fraught relationship between a repressed corporate consultant and her incessantly prank-playing dad. Retired teacher Winifred decides to pay a surprised visit to his estranged daughter. The decision proves fraught and so Winifred creates a smooth talking alter ego and barges into Ines professional life, claiming to be her CEO s life coach. After impressing critics around the globe, Maren Ade s bittersweet comedy about father-daughter love is one of the frontrunners for the Best Foreign Langage Film Oscar. If you feel there s no space in your life for a 162-minute German comedy, make room. AAAAA - The Daily Telegraph MOONLIGHT (15) Dir: Barry Jenkins 2017 USA 110mins With: Mahershala Ali Friday 17 - Thursday 23 March (except Sunday 19) Nominated for 8 Oscars, Moonlight is the story of an African-American gay man growing up in America. Writer-director Barry Jenkins successfully employs three different actors to portray the same character at three different ages. Charismatic newcomer Alex Hibbert plays the young, naive schoolboy living with his emotionally unreliable addict mother; Ashton Sanders is the bullied teenager fully discovering his sexuality; and Trevante Rhodes gives a breakout performance as the confident drug-dealing adult. Never less than riveting, Moonlight is already being showered with richly deserved awards including being named Best Drama at the Golden Globes. Both heartbreaking and deeply relevant... a rarely seen portrait of what it really means to be a black gay man in America today. It s a stunning achievement. AAAAA - The Guardian

Lipstadt s legal battle for historical truth against David Irving who accused her of libel when she declared him a Holocaust denier. Due to the English legal system, the burden of proof was on Lipstadt to prove the Holocaust occurred. LION (PG) Dir. Garth Davis 2017 USA 1118mins With: Dev Patel, Rooney Mara Friday 10 - Thursday 16 February Dev Patel and Nicole Kidman lead the cast in this rousing true tale of a lost Indian child, adopted by Australian parents, searching for home. When five-year old Saroo takes the wrong train he is stranded thousands of miles from home. As an adult, armed with a handful of memories he begins a search for his real parents. I, DANIEL BLAKE (15) Dir: Ken Loach 2016 UK 100mins With: Dave Johns, Hayley Squires Saturday 11 February 3.45pm The most popular film at The Dukes in 2016 returns for one last screening. Daniel Blake is a fifty-something carpenter living in Newcastle who, after suffering a heart attack, seeks to claim state benefits, leading him into a humiliating world of forms and absurd administration. JACKIE (15) Dir. Pablo Larraín 2017 USA 99mins With: Natalie Portman, Peter Sarsgaard Friday 17, Saturday 18 February & Friday 24, Sunday 26 March Natalie Portman delivers a career defining performance in this account of Jackie Kennedy s time in the aftermath of her husband, President John F. Kennedy. Drawing upon an interview conducted with Life magazine, the film is a haunting look at the private and public emotions of an infamous figure. T2 TRAINSPOTTING (18) Dir: Danny Boyle 2017 UK 115mins With: Ewan McGregor, Kelly MacDonald Friday 17 - Thursday 23 February Danny Boyle and the original cast reunite for a sequel to one of the most era-defining and iconic Brtiish films ever made. Mark Renton reunites with Spud, Sick Boy, Begbie and other old friends after returning to the only place that he can ever call home. HELL OR HIGH WATER (15) Dir: David Mackenzie 2016 USA 102mins With: Jeff Bridges, Ben Foster Saturday 18 February 8.35pm Liked No Country for Old Men? Then don t miss this thrilling western. Two brothers - Toby, a straight-living father, and Tanner, an ex-con - come together to rob branch after branch of the bank that is repossessing their family land. Damien Chazelle 2017 USA 128mins With: Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone Tuesday 14, Wednesday 22, Thursday 23, Tuesday 28 February, Saturday 25 & Sunday 26 March A glorious musical romance that pays homage to and updates the Hollywood classics. Gosling and Stone play pianist Seb and wannabe movie star Mia who fall in love as they strive for success in Hollywood. A deserved frontrunner for the 2017 awards season.

Dorothea enlists the help of two younger women - Abbie, a freespirited punk artist living as a boarder in the Fields home and Julie, a savvy and provocative teenage neighbour - to help with Jamie s upbringing. HACKSAW RIDGE (15) Dir: Mel Gibson 2017 USA 140mins With: Andrew Garfield Friday 24 February - Wednesday 1 March The extraordinary true story of conscientious objector Desmond T. Doss who saved 75 men during World War II without firing a single shot. Believing that the war was just but killing was nevertheless wrong, he was the only American soldier in WWII to fight on the front lines without a weapon. HIGH SOCIETY (U) Dir: Charles Walters 1956 USA 130mins (with interval) With: Grace Kelly Monday 27 February 2pm The sparkling musical that boasts songs from Cole Porter and star turns from Grace Kelly and Frank Sinatra. Screening as part of A Life More Ordinary, our series of arts events presented in association with Age UK Lancashire for people with memory problems and their friends, families and carers though everyone is welcome. FENCES (12A) Dir: Denzel Washington 2017 USA 140mins With: Denzel Washington, Viola Davis Sunday 12 - Thursday 16 March A moving drama boasting powerhouse performances. Denzel Washington stars as Troy Maxson, a blue collar worker in 1950s Pittsburgh. Crushed and embittered by events in his past, Maxson begins to frustrate his son s future when he is offered the opportunities Maxson never got. IRREPLACEABLE (12A) Dir. Thomas Lilti 2017 France 100mins Subtitles With: François Cluzet Monday 13 & Thursday 16 March All the people in this countryside area, can count on Jean-Pierre, the doctor who heals and reassures them day and night, 7 days a week. VICEROY S HOUSE (12A) Dir: Gurinder Chadha 2017 UK 106mins With: Gillian Anderson, Michael Gambon Friday 17 - Thursday 23 March Viceroy s House in Delhi was the home of the British rulers of India. Gurinder Chadha s latest film explores the final few months of British rule through the inhabitants of the house. As the political elite converged on the house to wrangle over the birth of independent India, decisions were made with consequences that still reverberate today. HIDDEN FIGURES (PG) Dir: Theodore Melfi 2017 USA 127mins With: Octavia Spencer, Taraji P. Henson Friday 17 - Thursday 23 March Three brilliant African-American women at NASA - Katherine Johnson Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson serve as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nation s confidence, turned around the Space Race and galvanized the world. THE FOUNDER (12A) Dir: John Lee Hancock 2017 USA 115mins With: Michael Keaton, Laura Dern Friday 24 & Saturday 25 March The true story of how one man stole McDonalds from the McDonald brothers. In 1950s California struggling salesman Ray Croc comes across two brothers running a speedy, efficient burger restaurant. Impressed - he talks the brothers into franchising the system, allowing Kroc to create his own billion-dollar empire.

Set in suburban 1980s America, the film follows Donnie, a troubled teen who is visited one night by a man in a rabbit suit who tells him that the world will end in 28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes and 12 seconds. LOVING (12A) Dir. Jeff Nichols 2017 USA 123mins With: Ruth Negga, Joel Edgerton Friday 3 - Thursday 9 March Loving celebrates the real-life courage and commitment of an interracial couple living in 1960s America. Richard and Mildred Loving married in 1958 but were then forced to spend the next decade fighting for their legal to right to have their marriage recognised by their home state of Virginia. PREVENGE (15) Dir: Alice Lowe 2017 UK 90mins With: Alice Lowe Friday 3, Saturday 4, Monday 6 & Tuesday 7 March Ruth is a pregnant woman on a killing spree. But it s not Ruth s fault - her unborn child speaks to her from the womb, coaching her to lure and kill her unsuspecting victims. A future cult classic, Prevenge is the directorial debut from Alice Lowe - who starred and co-wrote Sightseers. TONI ERDMANN (15) Dir. Maren Ade 2017 Germany 160mins Subtitles With: Sandra Hüller Friday 3 - Thursday 9 March (except Tuesday 7 March) One of the frontrunners for the Best Foreign Langage film Oscar. THE EAGLE HUNTRESS (U) Dir: Otto Bell 2016 UK Mongolia 87mins With: Daisy Ridley Saturday 4 & Wednesday 8 March Set against the breath-taking expanse of the Mongolian steppe, The Eagle Huntress follows Aisholpan, a 13-yearold girl, as she trains to become the first female in twelve generations of her Kazakh family to become an eagle hunter, and rises to the pinnacle of a tradition that has been handed down from father to son for centuries. BEST (12A) Dir. Daniel Gordon 2017 UK 92mins With: George Best Monday 6 - Thursday 9 March A documentary recounting the life of George Best. He was football s first rock and roll star a handsome, charismatic Belfast boy who could thrill and excite the crowds with every turn of the ball. But George Best was also the lead in his own Shakespearean tragedy, a flawed genius, brought down by drink, temptation and depression. LABYRINTH (PG) Dir. Jim Henson 1986 USA 100mins With: David Bowie, Jennifer Connelly Tuesday 7 March 8.30pm Jim Henson s classic puppet filled fantasy. A 16-year old girl is given 13 hours to solve a labyrinth and rescue her baby brother when her wish for him to be taken away is granted by the Goblin King. CHRISTINE (15) Dir. Antonio Campos 2016 USA 119mins With: Rebecca Hall, Michael C. Hall Wednesday 8 & Thursday 9 March Based on true events, Christine is the shocking story of a Florida news reporter who, in 1974, shocked the world by taking her own life live on air. Featuring an outstanding central performance from Rebecca Hall, Christine is a rich, sensitively handled depiction of the potentially devastating effects of depression.
