4 PRODUCER'S NOTE Welcome to SummerFest V. We thank you for your past and current patronage. This year it has been decided to enhance the program by offering three mainstage musicals performed by young and talented actors, dancers, singers and musicians. The eventual aim of this program is to associate itself with the professional guilds. The choice of shows is risky and expensive. Royalties and rentals are 800 times more expensive than straight plays. In addition, musicals require greater spectacle which translates into higher costs for sets, costumes, lights and support personnel. Without your patronage and hopefully your donations, this program will not be able to continue, at least not in the number of shows or in the musical format. This season is only possible through a university entrepreneurial loan which must be repaid, through increased patronage. In these uncertain times, participation in cultural events are enriching experiences that audiences can enjoy while being thoroughly entertained and re-created. It is easy to become part of this worthwhile effort. Simply fill out the Friends of the Theatre form found in this program and mail it to University Theatre. Ticket sales and donations only cover 16% of our costs for this season. Please help us in attaining our goal of 30% this year. Your gifts will determine future seasons. As fees and expenses continue to rise while other sources of income fall, our fl:iend.s account is critical to the artistic future of this program and your enjoyment. Your gift places your name in all our programs throughout the year. You will receive early mailings detailing our programs year-round. Even if you do not give, your comments and suggestions about this season and future SummerFests are welcome. This year's professional resident company is grateful to the Presidents Council, the Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities, and the Physical Plant Director and his associates for doing all they could to foster the success of SummerFest V.
