1 CONCEPTS COVERED: Music history STUDENT LEVEL: Intermediate/grade 3-4 HISTORY HOARDER
2 V ibrant M usic Teaching HISTORY HOARDER HOW TO PLAY Place all the cards in the centre of the circle. Give each player a board. On the count of three, all the players can start trying to find a card for each of the empty spaces on their board that matches the period. When they think they have a full set they should say "History hoarded!" The teacher will then check their board (using the answer key if necessary) and either declare them the winner, or resume gameplay. ASSEMBLY To assemble this game: Print out the game boards (pages 4-8). Lamination is not recommended as it will cause the boards to be slippery. Print extra copies of the boards if you want more than 5 students to play. You will not need extra cards. Print out the game cards (pages 9-22) double-sided. Trim along the dotted lines. Lamination is not recommended as it will cause the cards to be slippery. LEARNING OBJECTIVES In History Hoarder students work to try and match different cultural elements to historical time periods. Taking a broader view of history can allow students to make connections to what was going on and bring them closer to understanding the famous composers and their music. This game is recommended for ages 10 and up due to the level of reasoning required, however younger students can play with teacher assistance.
