It s great to be back as your president for one last year. I hope you had a pleasant summer and are ready for action. As always, we have some exciting events planned. First up will be our 40 th Anniversary Banquet at the Mission Viejo Country Club on Sunday, September 21 st. I want to thank Laurie Meinhold for being the best Anniversary Committee Chair anyone could ever ask for. In fact, I think she s now qualified to be a wedding planner due to all of her research on venues and banquet protocol. Thanks also to the following Anniversary Committee members for their fabulous work: Keiko Ikeda (invitations), Gloria Traullé (banner, music, & flowers), Anne Prestridge (treasurer), Nilou Sarraf (door prizes), and Valerie Radlick (advisor). Orion Traullé revised our MTAC OCC logo in honor of this event. There are several different ones we ll be using throughout the year. Please come celebrate our branch s 40 years of excellence in music education! It was fun spending time with many of you at the 2014 MTAC Convention in Los Angeles. Steinway pianos were used exclusively at this convention. I think it made a huge difference in the overall sound quality from the student performances and master classes to the competitions and artist recitals. There were so many wonderful performers and presenters this year. I especially enjoyed Jerome Lowenthal s Piano Concerto Master Class. His musical expertise and artistic insights into the most difficult concerti was unsurpassed. I hope he returns very soon! Our branch was once again recognized for its generous donations to the MTAC Foundation ($1250) and as a supporter of the YAG program. We probably would have won more awards, but the State MTAC has discontinued this practice. Please extend a warm welcome to our new board members: Annette Pumphrey (Recording Secretary), Sarah Jay (Website Coordinator), and Laura Combs (Director at Large). Your MTAC OCC Board had a very busy summer dealing with several important issues. They should be commended on their fine job! Special thanks to Judy Jenkins and Itoe Akimoto. Both are leaving the board after countless years of service. We ll miss you very much! This year s theme for the Theme Festival is Sonata & Sonatinas in the Classical and Romantic Periods. Julie Nakamura will once again be the festival chair. Registration is now open on our mtacocc.org website. Read this newsletter for more information. Please note the change in the postage procedure: If you wish to have the result packet mailed back to you, please include an additional $5.60 for postage (USPS Priority Mail flat rate envelope) in your check along with the student registration fees. No cash will be accepted! Our first branch meeting will be on Wednesday, September 17 th at the LHCC at 9:30 AM. The brilliant performer and lecturer, Kirill Gliadkovsky, will be our presenter. Anne Prestridge, our dedicated CM chair, will update you on the latest CM news and provide information on the mandatory meetings that ALL participating CM teachers must attend. You can also pick up your branch yearbooks. I can t wait to see all of you! ~Pam
