2 Dossier 2017 ER Installations Music group Entre Ríos proposes to develop the concept of the deconstruction of music reproduction formats through the use of diverse audiovisual installations, from which it seeks to make up for new experiences of sound and image perception applied to contemporary popular music.

4 Concept Rock culture has grown and acquired its music and sound identity within the record industry, whose object of exchange has been the album in any of its formats (vinyl, CD, cassette, etcetera). It s been a few years since music is interchangeable without the need of the physical object. However, recorded songs are still made in the image and likeness of the record object, in its length and sound quality. Why do we continue making songs to fit an object that is practically no longer used? Music group Entre Ríos proposes to disarm, decompose and deconstruct the song format within a space-installation and witness the escape of all the sounds trapped in the recorded song, seeking for an emotional redefining of sound, intensely trying to get the listener-spectator to interact in the ways of listening to recorded music. 4 5

5 Installations To date, Entre Ríos has embarked on diverse installation formats: Installation, Installation in a public space, Fulldome 5.1, Fulldome 5.1 in a public space and Intervention. During this time, they toured through many other countries apart from Argentina: Spain (2002, 2003, 2004); Chile (2004, 2005, 2006); Colombia (2004); Mexico (2004); Peru (2005), and Uruguay (2006). After a hiatus of almost two years, the group started recording a new album in early 2008, with the contribution of different voices. The album was titled Entre Ríos, and it marked a breakout from the electronic sound, having been recorded with acoustic instruments. ER has been a groundbreaking band in the Latin American electronic pop scene, combining and mixing pop song elements with electronic music s usual sound. The end result is some sensitive, emotional music. In the year 2011, ER stopped playing live with a rock format after presenting their album Era. In 2012 and 2013, ER recorded songs for the visual installation SAGA. During the year 2013, the group made audiovisual interventions in art galleries as a way of representing and experimenting with the concept of installation, and also published the CD Catálogo SAGA Intervenciones, 2013 (Ultrapop). In 2013, visual artist Lucas DM also became part of the production, and in 2014, the group consolidated its work under this concept by publishing the album SAGA INSTALACIÓN, which contains the music from the audiovisual installation with quadraphonic sound. That year, the band s current lineup was also consolidated: Loló Gasparini on vocals, Javier Medialdea and Sebastián Carreras (founding member) on various instruments. In 2015, already immersed in the concept of sound deconstruction in their installations, Entre Ríos composed the album CUADRO, made to be represented entirely in audiovisual installation format, with quadraphonic sound and image mapping over 80 screens arranged in the screening room. This installation also diversified in installations in different formats such as Fulldome 5.1, to intervene domes, or in show format, to be presented in auditoriums. In 2016, the band worked on the interactive video installation Son, a series of four videos that serve as accompaniment for a song that will be reinterpreted by the user/viewer through an application designed to such end. In 2017, Entre Ríos presents its new Installation called SIN, along with the publishing of its music, in the album of the same name. 9

7 Artists LUCAS DM VISUAL ARTIST A VJ and audiovisual artist trained in computer engineering and graphic design. Since 2007, he has exploring the field of the real time image in relation to the sound and the physical space, developing tools and software ecosystems that are specific for each project. Always partnering with different artists, his works range from performances and audiovisual installations in museums and art spaces to quadraphonic fulldome shows and developments in large festivals. SEBASTIÁN CARRERAS SOUND ARTIST He was born in Mar del Plata on April 4, 1973, and spent his childhood in many Argentine cities. In Buenos Aires, he started working at 19 in pop and rock music projects both experimental and alternative, as musician and composer and also as record producer and publisher. He has been in charge of the Indice Virgen music label since It publishes auteurial pop and electronic music. Since the year 2000, he has been working on the music group Entre Ríos as composer (music & lyrics) as well as arranger and performer. He is also a cultural producer and manager, always working with art projects whose aim is to innovate and transform the present, and where the political view of art as a way of finding a better living prevails. 11

8 SIN installation Installation SIN is an audiovisual installation of deconstruction of image and sound that uses a quadraphonic sound system and mapping of images played in 72 screens placed within a 10x15 square-meter space. In this situation of permanent saturation of the senses, we seek to detect the instants in which our sensitivity remains on our side and isn t dragged by said flow. Instants of reverie where we can process emotionally the impulses that come from the music generated by the sound and the poetry the image rouses. Instants we can recognize and retain in the dark and in silence. When the flow stops. The installation favors the effect generated by audiovisual information once it stops being broadcast. That is, the release effect that remains in the participant s perception once the lights and the sound go out. The images developed by visual artist Lucas DM interact with the music of the group Entre Ríos, fragmenting in the multiple screens, generating different configurations of space through the absence/presence of light. The installation is also intervened by the group, which will play songs that follow and adapt to its audiovisual format. Inervention
