1 DSR-4520X IRD Set-Up and Configuration Guidelines for Direct Reception on Galaxy 13 Version 1.9, 09/12/06

2 This document is intended as a supplement to and not as a substitute for the Operator Guide provided by Motorola to its customers for this product. Certain portions of the Motorola document have been excerpted and revised by HBO Engineering to fit the HBO-specific application. This document details the nuances of IRD installation and configuration that are specific to receiving HOD and MaxOD from HBO on Galaxy 13. It is assumed that the reader has become familiar with the Motorola document. When the IRD is ordered from the authorized Motorola Distributor, the PO should specify that the IRD will be utilized for the reception of HOD/MaxOD. This should help ensure that the IRD delivered is loaded with the proper version of firmware. IMPORTANT NOTE: PLEASE CHECK IRD FIRMWARE VERSION BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH INSTALLATION! Main Code must be at 12C or higher. Ethernet Code must be at 0A12 or higher. When powering up the IRD for the first time, please be sure to perform a power-up factory reset to ensure proper boot-up on the current code version. Simply hold in the < and > cursor keys on the front panel of the IRD when power is first applied (for approximately 20 seconds) until the unit boots fully. 2

3 CONFIRMING the IRD Firmware Version It is critical to the proper operation of the IRD for the purposes of receiving HOD and MaxOD content via the IRD Ethernet port that the IRD be at the correct firmware version. When the IRD was ordered, the PO should have specified that the IRD is intended for reception of HOD/MaxOD; Motorola or its authorized distributor should have provided the correct version. This detail must be checked prior to placing the IRD into service. To check the current version of firmware in the IRD, after supplying power to the unit, enter the <Status> submenu through the front panel controls, and navigate to page 2 of that submenu. Below is what you should see on the IRD LCD display. What is critical is the highest version of code available in the unit: Main - Boot : Min : High : 12A:12C:12C Ethernet - Boot : High : 0A10:0A12 <MAIN MENU] FIRMWARE (2/2) [NEXT> Main - Boot:Min:High These three values describe the firmware version for the unit s main processor (Delphi). Boot code may vary. Your IRD should have Main High code at 12C. Ethernet - Boot:High These two values describe the firmware versions for the unit s auxiliary processor (PowerPC), used for processing Ethernet messages. Boot code may vary. Your IRD should have Ethernet High code at 0A12. If the IRD has the correct version of code, proceed with installation and configuration as described below. If it does not, please contact the HOD Hotline at (212) as soon as possible for instructions on how to proceed. During the transition period, HBO will have a satellite code download available to those sites that do not receive IRD s with the correct firmware. 3

4 Connecting the DSR-4520X for HOD/MaxOD Cable connections described in this section are made to the rear panel of the DSR-4520X. 2. RF Input Ports (use RF Port 1 for input from Galaxy 13, Vertical Polarity) 4. Ethernet Port 1 (connect to Catcher Port Eth0 on the MP-CAT using a crossover Ethernet cable) 5. Ethernet Port 2 (not used in this application be careful not to connect Catcher here) 12. Video Out (with OSD) (recommended for troubleshooting/status monitoring) CONNECTING the IRD To Connect the Unit to receive HOD/MaxOD Connect the L-band signal from the V-pol of the antenna already peaked on Galaxy 13 and data grade LNB to one of the RF input ports (RF Port 1 is recommended). Use a DC block if necessary to prevent another receiver's LNB power output from shutting down the DSR-4520X. Only Port 1 of the DSR-4520X provides LNB power. If you are using Port 1 and the LNB is powered from elsewhere be sure to have LNB power disabled on the IRD (see manual). Please confirm that the RF input signal level is between 65dBm and 25dBm (optimal is in the 40dBm range). To view on-screen diagnostics during installation, connect the Video Output on the unit to a video monitor. Diagnostic data is output only on Video 2 Output. Using a standard Ethernet cross-connect (crossover) cable connect the Ethernet Port 1 of the DSR-4520X to the Ethernet 0 port on your Tandberg Media Path Catcher. Note that the crossconnect cable must be CAT-5 unshielded twisted pair, with a length of

6 CONFIGURING the IRD To Configure the Unit to receive HOD/MaxOD Following are instructions and menu screen samples specific to the reception of HOD and MaxOD from Galaxy 13. Configure RF Port After connecting a feed of Galaxy 13 Vertical polarity downlink to RF input 1 on the IRD, select <RF Ports > from Main Menu and arrow down to the bottom of the menu, set the Active Port to Port 1, and configure as follows: >Active Port = 1 Frequency = 1230 Symbol:Code:Bit = 29.3: 7/8 Combined <MAIN MENU] MANUAL TUNE (10/10) [NEXT> At this point, the DIGICIPHER LED on the front panel of the IRD should be illuminated, indicating acquisition of the satellite signal. If it is not, recheck all settings, RF connections, and antenna pointing. It is recommended to leave the remaining 7 ports in an unconfigured mode, since they will not be used in this application. Set the Port Test parameters according to local requirements. >Satellite = G9 (or G13) Polarity = Vertical Status : Defined <MAIN MENU] PORT 1 SETUP (1/10) [NEXT> NOTE: Even though the satellite is Galaxy 13; the satellite designator, VCT and channel number may reflect Galaxy 9 (G9) to avoid having to reconfigure IRDs already in service. 6

7 Select Channel After configuring the RF port and confirming satellite signal acquisition, give the IRD a few minutes to download the Virtual Channel Table (VCT) from the HBO satellite feed. Then select <Channels> from the Main Menu and configure the Virtual Channel selection as follows: > VCT ID = 730 Channel Number = 171 Provider ID = --- <MAIN MENU] CHANNEL SELECT (1/2) [NEXT> Once the VCT and channel selections are made, the IRD should lock to the Ethernet IP service which is carrying the HOD/MaxOD IP stream. When this occurs the DIGICIPHER LED on the front panel of the IRD should illuminate, and <Data> should look as follows: Confirm Service Acquisition > Asynchronous = Not Defined Isochronous = Not Defined Ethernet - IP = Defined <MAIN MENU] DATA STATUS (1/5) [NEXT> If <Ethernet - IP> displays a <Defined> status, the IRD has acquired the service and will output IP from Ethernet Port 1, which has been connected to the Tandberg Mediapath Catcher. Go back and confirm all front panel LED indicators and settings if Ethernet status is displayed as <Not Defined>. 7

8 Configure IP Address on Ethernet Port 1 In order for the Tandberg Mediapath Catcher to be able to monitor the status of the IRD, it must be assigned an IP address which is known to the Catcher. The same Ethernet Port 1 that is used to deliver content-related data to the Catcher is used for this monitoring. Remember that we do not use Ethernet Port 2 in this application at all. Please configure as follows under the <Data> menu: >IP Address = Subnet Mask = Default Gateway = <MAIN MENU] ETHERNET PORT 1 (3/5) [NEXT> Unless the IRD is separated from the Catcher by a gateway (not recommended), there is no need for the user to be concerned with the Default Gateway setting. While other values may appear after initialization, if no specific address is set, the factory default is shown above. Configure the Relays, Relay Bypass, and Alarm When being utilized for the reception of linear video services the 4520X has certain relay, alarm and relay bypass settings that may be configured to respond to various conditions. In the HOD/MaxOD Configuration these alarms and the relay bypass feature of the IRD are not used. In order to ensure that the IRD does not display false alarm conditions, HBO advises that they be set accordingly. The following two screens are both configurable from the <EXT Hardware> menu as follows: >Relay 1 = Off Relay 2 = Off Relay 3 = Off <MAIN MENU] Relays (1/2) [NEXT> >Bypass Mode = Disabled Alarm Trigger = Off Alarm State = Disabled <MAIN MENU] Alarms (2/2) [NEXT> 8

9 On-Screen Diagnostic Display The Fast Facts 1 and Fast Facts 2 screens of the on-screen diagnostic (OSD) display available on the video output of the IRD (see Motorola manual) contains very useful fields of information that indicate the status of the IRD. A sample of a happy IRD OSD looking at HOD/MaxOD would have a Fast Facts 1 screen that looks something like this: Unit:nnn-nnnnn-nnnnn-nnn VC# = 171 Firmware: 000A12 000A12 VCT ID = 0730 Encryption = Unencrypted Service # = 72 Auth State = Unauthorized Eb/No = Signal State = Locked Sat/Xpndr = G9/10 (or G13) Signal Quality = 75 Virtual Network = nnn Symbol Rate = Msps Polarization =V Frequency = MHz FEC Rate = 7/8 The OSD Fast Facts 1 screen is currently the only place where you can get any detail regarding the quality of the downlinked satellite signal. Without it you only have the DIGICIPHER LED on the front panel of the unit to tell you if the IRD is locked to the satellite signal; the LED indicator does not give you any information with regard to downlink or bit-error margin. If you have difficulty establishing or maintaining lock, or if you have ongoing catch failures, it is useful to check the Eb/No (energy-per-bit/noise spectral density roughly equivalent to a digital S/N figure). A lower than optimal Eb/No will result in a high bit-error rate (BER). At the HBO FEC rate of 7/8, an Eb/No of 8.0 db is necessary to maintain a serviceable BER; an ideal Eb/No is in the 10-12dB range. Signal Quality is a number provided on an arbitrary scale, represents a combination of the input signal level and the BER. This number should always be at or above 75. 9

10 Fast Facts 2 Screen Use this screen if you need to verify that the port definition has taken in the unit configuration. Do not worry if the other RF ports show something other than <>; as long as you have set the active port to Port 1, the IRD will only concern itself with the input signal at that port.
