6 EVENTS PSNPresents Genius! Live Pro Sound Awards Every six months or so, PSNEurope hosts PSNPresents, an evening of dialogue, discussion and drinking with the professional audio industry. Essentially, a social affair with a chatshow-style centrepiece, PSNPresents has brought together leading lights from the worlds of the recording studio, live sound, postproduction and broadcast to talk about the subjects that make them tick: the good, the bad, and the unmentionable, all over two hours in a salubrious West End venue. Over the past four events, our genial presenters have hosted onstage interviews with the likes of Youth, Flood, Dru Masters, John Metcalfe, Wes Maebe, Phill Brown, Richard Lindsay, Becky Pell, Andy Tapley from Strictly, and many more. PSNPresents has become an essential, off-kilter social event for the wider pro-audio industry. [Be a part of it, like Focusrite and Roland.] PSNEurope hosts Genius! Live at AES LA on Saturday What defines the art of genius? PSNEurope offers one possible definition: it s the moment when the clouds part, when the route to success is clear; the lightbulb moment, when everything you knew before has changed, and nothing will be the same again... In October 2016 at the 141st AES Convention in Los Angeles, PSNEurope editor Dave Robinson hosted the first Genius! Live workshop. The session celebrated those unique moments of clarity with a number of leading names in the industry, each of whom you might just want to call a genius. What were they doing when the lightbulb moment arrived? And what happened next? On the panel: Pat Quilter, one of the founders of QSC Audio; Dave Gunness, the man behind Gunness Focusing, who has worked with EAW and PreSonus and now runs Fulcrum Acoustic; and Joe Bull, one of the original SADiE DAW team, and now owner of JoeCo. The event ran alongside the publication of Genius!2, the second special supplement from PSNEurope that celebrates innovations and inventors in the pro audio world. PSNEurope will stage more of these timeless and eagerly-sought events in the years to come. September 2013 marked the launch of the Pro Sound Awards at London s Ministry of Sound nightclub. Regarded by many of those attending as a resounding success, the Awards recognised achievement across and contribution to the pro-audio landscape, in the disciplines of studio, broadcast, live sound and installed sound. Andy Munro received a lifetime achievement trophy for his services to studio design, and the BEIRG founders picked up the Grand Prix for their efforts in managing and preserving the radio spectrum in changing and turbulent times. Now in 2017, the PSAwards will be bigger and better!
