1 Southwest Harbor Public Library Upcoming Events Mondays 3:30 4:30 Peace Crane Folding All Welcome! The act of folding cranes brings community, respect, calmness, focus, storytelling, kindness, understanding, and togetherness. These current days are an appropriate moment to come together and spread this energy. Will we have projects? Will we fold a thousand cranes? Will we have special visitors sharing expertise? Will we have music? Who knows? Folding seems enough for now. Come and fold a crane. Come and fold many. Come one day, come every time. Spread the word!!! Exhibition March 5 - April 27 ~Women s History Month~ Women's History Month at the Library celebrates the past and present lives of Mount Desert Island women. 2 3/28 Southwest Harbor Drama Club Bring a bag dinner to participate or just listen as the Southwest Harbor Drama Club meets. For Women's History Month, the Southwest Harbor Drama Club will feature scenes from plays by and about women. " A Doll's House" and "Hedda Gabler" by Henrik Ibsen, works by Lillian Hellman, Claire Booth, Lorraine Hansberry, Tina Howe, Wendy Wasserstein, and Paula Vogel. Scripts will be provided. 3/31 9:30-11:30 Storytelling Games Morning We ll use Rory's Story Cubes to create and tell stories! For school-age children accompanied by an adult. Mon. 4/2 Free Monthly AED/Hands Only CPR Class The Library is offering a free Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) and Hands Only Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) class. The course will be taught by volunteer Patricia Buccello, an American Heart Association certified instructor and local paramedic. This class is not for CPR certification, but is an opportunity for anyone to be introduced to, or refresh, AED use and Hands Only CPR. Space is limited; so please call to reserve a space. Tue. 4/3 Maine Poet Gary Rainford ~ Liner Notes You may have heard Gary on WERU or read about him in Maine Today Magazine. Tonight he will discuss and perform ekphrastic poems from his new book, Liner Notes, which showcases 64 musicans as works of art musicians from Ella Fitzgerald to Bjork to Tony Bennett and Blondie, to name a few. In addition, Gary will provide a set-list of musicians celebrated in his collection and take reading requests from the audience. Don t miss this special event in celebration of National Poetry Month!

This service is free to taxpayers with low and moderate income and is offered in cooperation with the IRS. By appointment only 4/4 2:00- Tue. 4/10 Medicare the Library! Questions about Medicare? Join Jo-Ann Neal of L.S. Robinson Co. for a free informational seminar. Jo- Ann specializes in Medicare and will help answer questions including: What does Medicare cover and what does it not cover? What is a Medicare Advantage Plan? What is a Medicare Supplement Plan? When can I enroll in Medicare? What plan is best for me? Jo-Ann will be available for a Q&A following the presentation. Shakespeare Text Workshop with Andrew Simon Join the Barn Arts Collective's Andrew Simon for an evening of Shakespearean verse as he decodes the meaning behind the words through the rhythms in which they were written. Participants will learn how to identify these patterns and use them to reveal the motivations of the Bard's iconic characters. No prior knowledge or experience with Shakespeare is required. Seating is limited. Please pre-register. 4/11 2:00 - "Savvy Social Security Planning: What Baby Boomers Need to Know to Maximize Retirement Income" Social Security is far more complicated than most people realize. The Crooked Road Shakespeare Kids follows a Bar Harbor-based homeschool group as they prepare for their performance of King Henry IV, Part 1. It has been accepted to multiple film festivals and received a Gold Award at the Oregon Film Awards. Our Last Six Months: an Illustrated Memoir about Death, Cancer, End-of-life Care, Love, Family, and Forgiveness. By Emily Bracale Aubrey Bart, ( ), former resident and bus driver of Southwest Harbor, is the subject of this graphic memoir. Author Emily Bracale tells this memoir as a story that contains much helpful information for those in similar circumstances, whether caregivers or patients. The graphic memoir genre helps make this difficult subject matter easier to contemplate.
5 Tue. 4/24 5:30 4/25 Community Play Reading: William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night and The Tempest All are invited to participate in a Shakespeare Community Play Reading, hosted by the Barn Arts Collective's Andrew Simon and Brittany Parker. Participants will break up into two groups to read the Barn Art's cut versions of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night and The Tempest. Everyone in attendance will get the opportunity to read a part. Refreshments will be served. Open to all ages Southwest Harbor Drama Club Bring a bag dinner to participate or just listen as the Southwest Harbor Drama Club meets. The Drama Club will concentrate on the Bard of Avon, William Shakespeare, for National Poetry Month. Attendees are invited to bring their favorite soliloquies, sonnets, or scenes from the vast Shakespearean canon. Scripts will be provided.
