2 Special Events Summer Series: Movies in the Park Our Summer Series events are designed to keep children and families entertained in a safe, affordable, and productive environment during the summer months while school is out. Our annual Summer Series kicked off on Friday, June 1st with a special viewing of The Secret Life of Pets. This event was held at Andreson Park, 726 S Lilac Ave, Rialto, CA Families were welcomed to enjoy games, face painting, visit information vendors, and food vendors before the start of the movie at 8:00pm. There were approximately 200 people in attendance. On Friday June 8, 2018 Beauty and The Beast was shown at Ferguson Park, 2395 W Sunrise Dr., Rialto CA, Prior to the start of the movie families enjoy the paint and juice station, information vendors, and food vendors. Local radio station Hot participated as one of our information booths and provided giveaways for the crowd. Our attendance increased from the week prior to 250 people in attendance. The Lego Ninjago movie was shown on June 15, 2018 at Frisbie Park, 1901 N Acacia Ave Rialto CA, Community Services staff and volunteers provided kids activities, including giant building blocks which the kids enjoyed. Various information booths including Sunrise Church s Womens Outreach and Rialto Panthers provided information on their services. The estimated attendance was 200 people. Community Garden Open House Saturday June 2 nd 2018 The Community Services Department attended the 12 th annual Community Garden Open House. Our dedicated staff set up a booth and provided information on all city services and resources that are available to those in the Rialto community. Taste of Rialto Thursday June 7 th 2018 Our Community Services Department staff has been hard at work this summer. Special events staff attended the annual Taste of Rialto and supported the event by setting up canopies, and providing ice for the Rialto Chamber s event. This collaborative effort was a success and we hope to be able to continue providing support to the Rialto Chamber and other Rialto organizations. Run Whatcha Brung XXV June 8 th & 9 th 2018 The Rialto Rotary celebrated its 25 th Run Whatcha Brung annual event on June 8 th & 9 th. The Community Services Department assisted with this year s marketing efforts and kids activities. On Friday night over 400 cars participated in the Cruise Night and on Saturday our department set up an information both along with other vendors. We provided an off-road obstacle course for entertainment and provided giveaways at the event.
3 Grace Vargas Senior Center Add Years to Your Life & Life to Your Years July 2018 Health Educator Maricela Acosta from Regal Medical Group held a Healthy Cooking Demo on Monday, June 11 th from 11:00am-12:00pm. The topic for the demo was Healthy Eating on a Budget. For the demo she showed the participants how to prepare Walnut Lentil Salad. The highlight of the demo was when the participants got to sample the salad. Maricela provided them with the Walnut Lentil Salad recipe and a California Fresh Produce Seasons handout. The next class will be held on Thursday, July 12 th from 11:00am-12:00pm. We had our Karaoke Ice Kream Social on Monday, June 11 th from 1:00-4:00pm. The social was sponsored by Regal Medical Group Representative Juan Rivas. The seniors had a choice of either a root beer ice cream float or a orange soda ice cream float. During the social they were able to perform their favorite Karaoke songs. Some of the seniors got up and danced to Karaoke singers. Our senior participants really enjoy our Senior Socials, it s a free event and they always have fun dancing and socializing with their friends while snacking of refreshments. Our next Senior Social will be a Crazy Hat Senior Socal which is scheduled for Thursday, July 12 th from 2:00-4:00pm. On Tuesday, June 12 th Kanika Bhatle, MS, RD and Diana King, DSS from Rialto Post Acute Center hosted a workshop on The health benefits and uses of nuts. Each participant received a small bags of Cashews. During the workshop they discussed the health benefits eating more nuts, seeds, and legumes and how having a plantbased diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy plant oils may reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and cancer. Our senior participants are happy to receive valuable information regarding living a healthy lifestyle.
4 Community Center Youth Sports Youth Basketball (Divisions 2-5) The Summer Basketball season began June 2 nd, We currently have 8 teams in all 4 divisions, comprising 32 team s total. Each one filled, with a wait list in each division. As usual we had a great opening ceremony, a bit earlier than normal. The teams were dressed and eager to get going. We tried new jersey s this season. They have been met with mixed reactions. Girls Volleyball The Summer Volleyball season began on June 1 st, We currently have 8 teams in Division 1, competitive, and 4 teams in division 2, noncompetitive. Each one filled, with a wait list in each division. The opening ceremony had 6 of the 12 teams appear. The Girls Volleyball program received a donation of $ from home street bank. One of the coaches put our small program in the grant lottery and we won. A truly great day for our Girls Volleyball Program. Rialto Youth Sports Alliance The Rialto Youth Sports Alliance s meeting was held on May 30 th, The Lighting fee decision was discussed and finalized. The Frisbe renovation was the big topic of the evening. The groups were informed that ALL would have to help to facilitate the displaced groups. With the groups losing Frisbe park, a ripple effect would occur. Groups were displeased, however, understanding of the future situation. The next meeting will occur on August 26 th, Contract Classes The contract class program continues to excel. With the commission s approval, we are adding a Salsa class back to our Contract Class roster. We are inn current communication with a wellknown Dance instructor from the City of Colton. We will be bringing Ballet and Ballet Tap-Jazz back to the Community center. We await the next Rialto Progress Magazine to feature the new classes added. The Ballet Folkloric class continues to flourish, along with the Karate. Community Services Department continues to seek new and vibrant class offerings.
5 Rialto Aquatics Center Swim Lessons We currently have 193 group and private swim lesson participants from May 22, 2018 to June 21, Our next swim lesson registration for group lessons is Saturday, June 23rd and Sunday, June 24th from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. With classes scheduled to start the week of Monday, June 25 th, where Wednesday, July 4 th our facility will be closed in honor of Memorial Day. Rialto resident discounts available with proof of address. (Utility bill or Driver s License/ID card) Swim Team The Rialto Sea Turtles swim team currently has 25 swimmers enrolled for the May 22, 2018 to June 21, Looking to join a team and compete in the sport of swimming or just advance your swimming techniques. Contact us for try out information and monthly fees. Next registration starts July 2 nd. Jr. Lifeguarding Program We will be scheduling Jr. Lifeguard pre-test during the week of June 25 th to 30 th. We currently have about 10 students interested in testing out, and for those who pass can sign up for the course that is scheduled to start July 2 nd to July 31 st. Our Junior Lifeguarding program for ages 11 to 14 is structured to teach water safety and introduce participants to the duties and responsibilities of a lifeguard. Our goal is for our students to build a foundation of knowledge, attitudes and skills in preparation for the American Red Cross Lifeguard course. Only $85 per student. Lifeguarding Program Sign up now for our Lifeguard program for ages 15 and up. The Lifeguard program provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. Swim test scheduled for Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 10:00 am please contact us for details. Fee: $ per student Lap and Recreation Swim Lap Swimming is available throughout the week for fitness center members and guests who pay the daily walk in fee. We continue to have some interest in our recreation swim times. From May 22, 2018 to June 21, 2018 we have sold a combined 1,316 daily lap/rec swim passes along with our 10 visit passes. Upcoming Rentals/Events Special Event will have their Summer Series at the aquatic center on June 22, 2018 from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Will be free for the community to watch a movie and swim at the same time! We will also have vendors, food and games for the whole family. We will also have another movie night on July 20, 2018.
6 Rialto Fitness Center 29 Anytime Pass Are you ready to exercise but need a gym buddie? The Fitness and Aquatic Center is offering a $29 Anytime Pass for members who are interested in group exercise classes. The pass is not a facility membership but rather a monthly pass valid for instructor led group exercise classes. The pass expires on a monthly basis and includes access to all of the 44 group exercise classes offered on a weekly basis. Try it today to sample, Aerobic Total Body Workout, Aqua Fitness, CardioFit, Indoor Cycling, Pilates, Senior Fitness, Yoga, and Zumba. It s the perfect way to get fit with the support of a team environment. For more information on the $29 Anytime Pass call the Fitness and Aquatic Center at Facility Rentals The Fitness and Aquatic Center swimming pool and sun deck are available for rent to host your next event. If you would like more information regarding rental dates and pricing please call the Fitness & Aquatic Center at Glow RIDE On Thursday, June 7 th and Tuesday, June 19 th we offered a Glow RIDE, indoor cycling class for our members and guest. Members were able to bring one FREE guest with them to class. We saw an increase in both classes and are looking to schedule more themed group exercise classes this year. New Members From May 22 nd to June 17 th the Fitness and Aquatic Center would like to welcome twelve new members to our facility. We are currently offering a variety of monthly and annual passes to fit the needs of our community. Joining fee is $40.00 plus first month s dues at signing. Individual to family rates available for those who reside at the same address. For more information on our various membership options please call the Fitness & Aquatic Center at SilverSneakers The month of May also brought 727 SilverSneakers visits to our facility. This month we received $1, from tivity Health which is an increase from April. SilverSneakers members have full facility access which includes group exercise classes, swimming pool access, cardio machines, weight equipment and more.
