2 Andy Andy is a boy who loves books and reading. Andy loves libraries because they have so many books. 2

Andrew Carnegie (1835-1919) Andy also loves reading about famous people. One day at his local library, he found a book about a famous man named Andrew Carnegie.

Andy found out that he and Andrew Carnegie both loved libraries. In fact, Andrew Carnegie owned steel factories and donated a lot of money to help cities build libraries all across our country and around the world. 3

The consortium s mission is to identify surviving Carnegie Libraries in Washington and Oregon to promote public awareness and preservation around the world. The Carnegie Library Consortium of Washington was established in 2009 by the Clark County Historical Museum of Vancouver, Wa., for the centennial of the original Vancouver Public Library, a 1909 Carnegie Library. The Clark County Historical Museum has been located in the former library since It is an excellent example of adaptive re-use of a Carnegie Library, many of which have gone on to serve their communities as museums, or in other ways, once they were no longer functional as a library.
