It s only you helping out in our community events that make them such a successful and fun family event. There is so many different areas that help is needed; with each individual s unique passions, I know you would be an attribute. Please find your niche and say, How can I Help? 3 C H A M B E R N E W S M A Y Special District Elections are coming up May 19 th. There are 21 districts in Jefferson County with 62 candidates pursuing 47 positions. These are board positions in your School District, Fire Department and Water District to name a few districts with interested candidates vying to represent you. So why do I bring this to you in this month s Executive Director s letter? It has do with quality of life we enjoy, economic vitality of our community and the caliber of community engagement others see or measure in their decision to start a business, expand a business or move a business here. Basically this is the Chamber s Mission Statement. The Chamber by itself cannot be successful in it s effort without good people representing all of us on the boards of these 21 districts directing and making decisions with good data supported with good business or industry practices. With strong leadership and direction of these board members we have a lot to promote to others and reinforce within our local population. The Chamber encourages your engagement to be informed of the three C s of the candidates asking to represent us on various boards. Check out their Capacity, Capability and Character to evaluate their fitness to serve on their boards of choice. Once you have your evaluations completed then take the next step and VOTE. A small group has been meeting at the Metolius train depot with the desire to organize the North end of the Depot and eventually display the railroad artifacts during different events. Currently the group is looking for those that have knowledge of train memorabilia, or just have an interest in the railroad history and want to be involved. Congratulations to Carrie McCormick with COCC for the lucky draw of the Mystery Camera Clip in the April Newsletter. Good Luck to you in your quest of finding the Mystery Clip in this month s issue. The Wandering Mystery Camera Clip will be a picture of part of a member s business, or a place, which will be located in Jefferson County somewhere. We may or may not, give a hint each time, where the business or place is located. Our purpose is that you are more aware of what and where our member businesses are located. When you look at the photo in the newsletter and recognize the place of business, call us with the name and location of the business or place featured. GOOD LUCK! The first 10 caller s names will be put in a pot & the winner will be drawn from those names for the free business card ad in next month s Newsletter. 9 C H A M B E R N E W S M A Y For Generations the Thomas Family has been serving Central Oregon, beginning with the Thomas Brothers Matt and Bill s Grandfather back in Their Grandfather William, opened an Gas station and service center, with the sale and service of tractors and soon after, shocked the community by being one of the first to start selling an Automobile in Central Oregon. Over the decades, Thomas Sales and Service is still surprising the community with a friendly welcome and service that extends far after the sale. After William Thomas death in 1961, his sons Jack and Pat took over. Again the heritage was passed along when Matt and Bill Thomas purchased Thomas Sales and Service, from their father Pat, in In July 2013 the youngest of the Thomas Brother Matt, moved the TS&S back to the community of Madras when he purchased Miller Ford from Terry Hanlon. The brothers are happy to be back in Madras and thank you all for your Business and Support. 9
