John and Robin Berry performed at The Hearth on October 1 st for all our residents. He signed autographs and took pictures with everyone. John brought in CD s for our residents, and they have a great souvenir. We Thank John and Robin for entertaining us and look forward to them coming back! Friday October 12 th at 8:00am, we will be voting for Federal and State General Election. Please come at that time and vote in the Activity Room. The ballots are located by the calendar area by reception desk. Dr. Dozier will be speaking on Facts & Myths of Dementia on Wednesday October 17 th at 6:00pm in the Activity room. Please stop by and listen to his presentation. We had a large group attend last year and you don t want to miss this! Our trip to the Horse Farm was rescheduled to Monday October 22 nd at 8:45. Please meet in the front lobby so we can load the bus. Our Lady of The Lake Catholic Church will have a Catholic Mass in the Activity Room on Wednesday October 10 th at 11:00am. On October 31 st, we will have a Trick or Treat event from 4:00-5:30. Residents will be at different stations to hand out candy to all the children that attend. We will provide the candy but need residents to help during that time. We will have candy on all the dining room tables for residents to hand out candy too. 2 October 2018 Keepsake Village News October is going to be a great month in Keepsake Village! We have so many fun activities coming up! There will be lots of fall-themed crafts and cooking activities every week! We will be painting pumpkins, making birdfeeders, and painting fall leaves on trees. Photos from last Month We are also going to make our Kitchen Kraft with Magen on the first Friday in October and bake pumpkin chocolate chip bars later in the month on the 19th. We ll end the month with our Halloween Masquerade Party on the 31st! We ll have lots of spooky, tasty treats and rockin music! Ice Cream Outings Armchair Travel Destinations Last month, we learned about Bolivia and their llamas from the comfort of our chairs! Here s what we learned on our virtual journey to the Andes in Bolivia! Our Keepsake Residents have really enjoyed going out for ice cream! We have gone to Baskin Robbins for traditional flavors and La Michoacana Deluxe for Mexican ice cream with lots of interesting and new flavors. This month, we will be going to Maggie Moo s and Culver s. If you would like to participate, or if you would like for loved one to participate, please see Heidi (Keepsake Village Activity Director) to set up an outing fund. Llamas have been a part of Andean a they are Bolivia s national animal. The majestic Andes Mountain range formed approximately 45 million years ago is the world s longest mountain range. It runs along the entire western coast of South America and spans sev highest peaks in the western hemisphe mountain range is 13,000 feet! The Amazon River that runs through part of Bolivia is home to Brazil dolphin which are pink in color.

3 Dear Residents, Welcome back to another edition of the Kitchen Korner! It s officially fall, Halloween is at the end of this month and the holidays are literally around the corner and we ll be celebrating them before we know it! I hope everyone had a great summer. I only have a few things to discuss this month, so let s get to it! First, we did not pick a Food Service Employee of the Month for October. Last month, we instead celebrated the entire staff for pulling together when we ve lost staff, when the air wouldn t work in the kitchen and more! The Food Service Team isn t perfect, but they sure do know how to make it happen in times of need. I do, on the other hand, have a couple staff I would like to celebrate for different reasons. First, on the 3 rd of this month, Brittany Bray will be completing 2 years serving with us here at the Hearth. Brittany works primarily breakfast throughout the week and some lunches. She serves some and does dishes a lot as well, and her cross training really comes in handy. Happy Work-a-versary, Brittany! We also have a birthday to celebrate this month. Our newest cook, Kristen (Krissi) Braden, will be turning another year older on the 24 th. She s been here since March and we are happy to be able to celebrate a birthday with her! Please make sure to recognize both ladies if you get the chance. Next, I would like to talk a bit about the Kitchen Kraft. You will notice that this is normally scheduled for the last Friday of every month. I ve wrote some about this activity before, but I ve had some questions about it recently and therefore wanted to remind everyone what it is. The Kitchen Kraft is an activity, involving food, that I like to be a part of each month. We have one on AL, and we have a craft in KSV on the first Friday of every month. These crafts include a variety of ideas from hands on activities to cooking demos. As I come up with these ideas, I will try to make sure to share them before the day of the activity. For activities involving hands on fun, I will be putting a sign-up sheet in the Country Kitchen, so I can get a ballpark estimate on how many people will attend.
