2 HUNGER ISSUE Nº 3 This is an open call for the second issue of Hunger, Void s new publishing project: 7 issues of a newspaper will be released, one each 6 weeks, starting from February Four more open calls will follow during 2018 for the next 4 issues of the project. Each issue will contain: 2 to 3 invited artists that will not be announced until the launch of each issue + 1 artist selected by Void s editorial team through the open call. We invite artist using the photographic medium to submit a photographic answer to the theme A Hunger Artist, taken from the homonymous Franz Kafka s short story. The theme can be read on page 8 of this pdf, the full short story, on page 18. In short, think about works of yours that deal in the theme or in the processes with resilience, passion, stubbornness, painful craftsmanship, fight, isolation, confrontation, pain, struggle, obsession, etc.

4 VOID Void is a project fully dedicated to photography. Found in 2016, Void is an independent publisher, an alternative exhibition space, and also an educational space for photography in the heart of Athens. Void is a non-profit organization, and our goal is to publish more established and up-and-coming artists both from Greece and abroad, and invest funding on education projects in Greece. talkto@void.photo

8 THE THEME You are a photographer. You are a starving artist. The art you chose is, as a starting point, the practice that had its golden days back in past times. Its very own art title is sometimes put in check. And nonetheless, the hype and new forms of art amusement might have diverted part of the crowd s interest away. Even though it is each time more difficult to define what is photography, if you define yourself as a photographer, you are doing it for passion and necessity. Hunger artists don t have to do their art. They must do it. For themselves. For their passion.

10 WHAT VOID IS LOOKING FOR? We are looking for outstanding artists with a body of work that can stand side by side with established names. The work submitted should be a photographic narrative that fits in 3 to 6 newspaper spreads No submissions with less than 10 images will be considered. Only successful submissions will be contacted. Please note that we are looking for a coherent body of work that responds to the theme of the project. A collection of spare images is not welcome. Any submission that does not follow the rules of the open call will not be accepted without further notice. For this reason please read carefully and thoroughly the pdf and our terms & conditions.

11 WHY AN OPEN CALL? Because an open call is one of the few chances for emerging talented artists to make themselves be seen. Void wants the project to span from obscure to consolidated hunger artists. No fee will be charged. We don t ask for any fee for submitting photographs. And if selected, we also don t charge for anything. What we expect from you in case you are selected: to supply the respective high resolution images; submit the work until 13th of March a document stating that you own the rights on the images and allow Void to publish it in the Hunger project we can supply such a template. What you should expect from us in case you are selected: Each selected artist will be published in newpaper print form; exhibited in an online exhibition; receive five copies of the issue they have been published in.
