3 FOOD Ena Location: Ruiguangli, No. 35, Tianzhong, Pingtung City 900 Writer: 顏以苹 Do you like pasta? Ena is a restaurant located on the food street right across from Pingshang Campus. The restaurant offers a wide variety of pastas, risottos, and waffles. Ena s pleasant atmosphere makes it a desirable place for friends to gather together. Try to imagine yourself in a fairytale-style restaurant with graceful music, while enjoying fresh hot pasta that costs only NT$89! One great feature of Ena is that you can add noodles or rice for FREE! Moreover, people who check in on Facebook can get a free cup of black tea. In terms of the food, the chef adds chipped carrots, cabbage, and cauliflower into every dish, making each meal appear flavorful. Here, I would like to recommend their baked chicken pumpkin-sauce pasta - the baked cheese on top is the best part, because it is nice and gooey in a delicious sort of way. The chicken also goes very well with the sugary pumpkin sauce. The restaurant is open from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and closed on weekends. 4 CULTURE There are a variety of ways to celebrate New Year all over the world. Some of them are exceptional, and some of them are bizarre. Below are three countries that commemorate New Year in unique ways. Happy New Year Writer: 黃姿瑄 In Spain Since 1909, in Spain, it has gradually become a trend to eat a bunch of grapes on the New Year day as the yield of grapes produce fruitfully at Alincante area. The countdown to the observance begins at 12:00 a.m. People gather at Puerta del Sol, the central plaza in Madrid, and set to eat twelve grapes individually within 12 seconds as the clock rings. Every grape represents a month and a wish, and it is believed to bring good luck and prosperity by eating grapes. In Italy In Italy, there are some must-do activities on the New Year day, such as taking part in the music concert, eating auspicious food, wearing red apparel, and so on. Red is commonly associated with blood and means wars. However, during the period of Roman Empire, this color means to keep away from fear. The people dressing red on that day brought fortune and luck. In Taiwan Chinese New Year is also called Spring Festival. Here is a Chinese New Year story. Nian was a monster that lived in the mountain, it came out annually to attack the innocent villagers and ate lots of animals during Chinese New Year. However, people found an effective way to scare away the monster by dressing red apparel and setting off fire crackers on that day. Day after day, these two activities became prevalent routine traditionally. Later on, people make good use of this vacation to reunion with their relatives yearly and to have a feast with them delightedly. The three countries have their own distinct celebrations on New Year s Day with various customs and cultures, and it is interesting for us to learn more about them.

5 2019 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Pingtung Writer: 呂秋盈 When you walk into Pingtung Train Station, it s not difficult to notice a big poster about Taiwan Lantern Festival. There are even many pictures about the Festival in railway carriages. The scene suddenly reminds me: It s time for the Lantern Festival! CURRENT EVENT Lantern Festival is one of the famous events in Taiwanese culture. Most Taiwanese get together for the important celebration. To attract more foreign visitors, the Tourism Bureau has held a celebration for Festival in many places in recent years, and this year is in Pingtung. Our school is honored to host in the Lantern Festival with the local government. Orientation training of professional manners, reception, language, work execution is given to the student participants for the event. The Festival will take place in Pingtung Dapeng Bay from February 19 to March 3. The Pingtung County Government will use Bluefin Tuna Fish as the main lantern. It is a local feature of Donggang. The main lantern is located in the sea over the water. The lanterns designed in animals, cartoon characters, or other forms will attract many people to take pictures. Moreover, there are international water performances every night and beautiful drone light shows introduced by Intel corporation. On the 30th anniversary of the Lantern Festival, the local Government hopes to light up Pingtung and make Taiwan seen in the world. 6 MOVIE Writer: 賀世涵 If you have a chance to live on a new planet, would you want to try it? The movie Passengers represents five thousands people deciding to take a spaceship, to leave for a brand-new planet to make a fresh start. However, due to a malfunction of the cabin, the actor Jim is forced to wake up. After deliberating, he decides to wake up the actress Aurora because he feels lonely and boring. During this adventure, they overcome a lot of difficulties and have their beautiful love. When seeing the movie trailer, I feel its plot extremely appeals to me even though there are a number of negative reviews on the Internet. In the movie, gorgeous special effects make you feel spectacular as if you are traveling in the space. Nevertheless, the thrilling sentiment between Jim and Aurora is the most impressive. Although she hit the roof and was hard for her to forgive Jim s previous mistake that breaks her future plan, she still strives to save his life. I think that is A friend in need is a friend indeed. The movie Passengers not only is full of excitement but also delivers heartfelt and profound love story, which gives you a visual delight and spiritual growth. 7 Why do we feel uncomfortable with the sound of scratching a blackboard? Writer: 黃若嘉 There are some quite unbearable sounds to people s ears. For example, some people are afraid of steel spoons knocking on the bowl, while others hate the sound of skin rubbing with the teeth. Those sounds that make a lot of people tremble or shudder are called sound allergies. However, the most nauseous sound that makes nearly everyone feel sick is the sound of nails scratching on a blackboard. When I was in junior high school, one of my classmate would cry whenever she heard the sound of nails scratching a blackboard. However, why do people feel uncomfortable when they hear this sound? There are two arguments to this theory. First, researchers found that the sound generated by a nail scratching a blackboard has the same audio frequency as a baby crying or human screaming, which is considered to be a signal for help or danger. TRIVIA There is another saying. Primitive stone-age people were often preyed upon by animals, and the sound of chewing bones from wild beasts such as lions, wolves, or tigers is like the sound of nails scratching on a blackboard. At that time, when our ancestors heard this kind of sound, they knew that their friends were unfortunately being eaten, thus increasing their own time to escape from being the next meal. Nowadays, stepping back and screaming when seeing snakes, spiders, or worms has become a natural instinct for many human beings. Although modern people have little to no opportunity for seeing fierce animals like lions, wolves, or bears in the wild, they still find it to be very excruciating when they hear the sound of scratching a blackboard - like a dim reminder of human bones being chewed in previous times. 10 Barbecue Party Are you fed up with playing games in each activity? In the end of the semester, the student association of our department intends to give everyone a brand-new party. Namely, we will hold a barbecue party. Since this is a new activity, we strongly believe that you are interested in it. Now, we are pleased to ask our general coordinators several questions. Writer: 陳沂萱 Q: Why did you choose to hold a barbecue party? A: Being the general coordinators, we were often wondering if it was a good idea to play games like we used to. Or we may celebrate in some other ways. Both my staff and I prefer the latter option. Hey! I remember that some departments hold barbecue parties! Perhaps we can try this, too, I said to my partner. This barbecue party was settled. Q: How did you find a place for barbecuing? A: Since it was impossible to hold the party in school, we asked other departments where they used to barbecue. My friend told us that they went to a venue next to a temple in Linlou. Therefore, we went there at first. However, the master of the place refused us because they had been protested by their neighbors for noise and smoke. Even though we felt upset, we didn t give up. We kept asking people who had experiences of barbecuing. Eventually, we found the 你儂我儂 Farm. Q: Did you face any obstacle? A: First, finding a suitable place was the most challenging task for us. Initially, we did not take 你儂我儂 Farm into account because it was completely different from our expectation. It was no exaggeration that it was just a piece of land with grass. The facilities were no ideal, and the service was none. Nevertheless, there were very few options for us. We had no choice but pick this farm as the venue. Q: Did you have a sense of achievement from arranging the BBQ activity? A: Honestly speaking, not until we finish this activity will we gain a sense of achievement. Luckily, we have support from many efficient and reliable staff. From designing the poster, announcing this activity, handing the budget, making the enrolling form, to inviting professors, we definitely could not complete the task without the help from each member in the association. Q: What is your anticipation of this activity? A: As a matter of fact, this barbecue party is not a grand activity. From our point of view, the main purpose for this activity is to unite everyone, having a meal together and having fun with each other. We hope that every participant will have a great time with us.

14 第七章財產 ( 一 ) 本會財產分為檔案資料 器材及文具用品等三種, 只有本會會員方可使用 第八章活動 ( 一 ) 與他系活動之相關接洽事宜, 交由該活動之總召負責 若外系有活動之邀請, 由會長於例行會議時提出 ( 二 ) 由總召撰寫企劃書, 規劃活動內容 流程及人員分配 ( 三 ) 活動後總召負責檢討整個活動之利弊缺失, 並提出改進方案 第九章附註 ( 一 ) 本章程為本會之最高單行法規, 其他規定與本章程牴觸時無效 ( 二 ) 本章程之修訂, 需經會員六分之一提案, 三分之二出席, 及出席代表三分之二決議, 始得修訂之 ( 三 ) 經費之支出應先填具請款單, 註明共申請人之姓名 支出事由 金額, 並取得總務組長之同意及簽章後, 再由總務組長簽發其金額, 事後須於一週至十天內繳回收據及請款單, 以便查核, 一旦逾期, 視同放棄 經費之支出如超過五百元, 則預先向總務組申請, 如在五百元以下, 則先代付再申請 ( 四 ) 除依上項方法實施外, 申請經費於壹千元至壹萬元者, 需經會長或系主任審核同意, 若超過壹萬元者, 另需經會長與系主任審核同意 ( 五 ) 遇有急事由未能事先申報而支出經費者, 應在事前向會長與系主任簽章後始可認同 ( 六 ) 上列緊急事項應於發生後三日內申報, 一旦逾期, 視同放棄 第三十條 : 本方法經會員代表大會三讀通過後, 由系主任公布實施, 修改亦同
