1 A. Mario Loiederman Middle School The Lion s Den Issue 1 November 2011 What Teachers are doing to make Learning Fun! My 6 th grade year has been totally awesome, so far anyway. It s only the second quarter, but I have already had amazing experiences. I have made tons of new friends (shout out to all of them!) and I have some pretty awesome teachers! So far I am doing well in all my classes and I have seen some pretty unusual things. I have also had some pretty good times. For example, the Halloween dance - now that was a good time! Well, for me anyway. For the people who didn t go to the dance, you really missed out on a good time. There was a lot of dancing, screaming and especially eating. Overall, I think, everyone who went had a good time. Another fun event was the 6th grade mixer. There were lots of people dancing and getting to know each other. Pretty much it has been a good year and I hope all of you are having an awesome year too! By Kayla Chandler I have enjoyed my Reading and Band class. Ms. Guerrero makes class easy and fun. She makes funny jokes and makes me feel like I can do it. Reading a book can be fun! Mr. Stuart is funny and always cracks jokes. By Alexis D. Meneses At A. Mario Loiederman Middle School in Silver Spring, Maryland, my favorite classes are English with Ms. Delayo and Perspectives with Ms. Carson. I like English because Ms. Delayo makes the class fun by having fun activity worksheets and we have a little bit of social time. I like Perspectives with Ms. Carson because she makes the class easy by showing us videos then giving us questions about the videos. Technically, the video gives us all the answers. She also gives us work like drawing and sometimes she lets us work together. By Cielo Gonzalez I have enjoyed my Health and P.E. classes. In Health, Ms. Williams has taught us all the reasons we need to be healthy and how we can stay healthy. Ms. Williams is nice and will always give you a hand. In P.E., you will find one of the best P.E. teachers you will ever know Mr. Hobbs. By Jacob Hedeiniem In Art, Ms. Ely has helped me improve on shading and drawing 3D objects. In P.E., Ms. Becker teaches me different activities like football and team handball. She teaches me how to work in a team. All in all, I think that Mario Loiederman Middle School has good classes that can help any student every day. By Cesar Osorto Mane Events 1. What Teachers Are Doing 3. Did You Know? 6. Music 8. 2 I have enjoyed my Reading class since the second week of school. I like Ms. Guerrero because she doesn t let me give up on myself. She makes me keep up with my good grades and she always says the truth to me and all students. She is funny, and still keeps going on with the Reading lesson. By Andre Clarke I have some amazing news to share of what is happening at Loiederman. I attend a Dance class that will keep you moving and fit. I personally like Dance because my teacher, Ms. Sanz, is always so nice and creative with the Dances that we do. We are doing a Dance that just goes with the flow of the theme song Children of the Corn. All of these magical movements happen in a beautiful dance studio. I also like P.E. with Mr. Whittles because I love to work out and run around. By Victoria Quiroga Loiederman is a cool school because of Mr. Austin. He has the same interests as I do. For example, he likes Star Wars like I do and uses little clips to describe the setting. That really helps me. I like my Band class with Ms. Carson because I get to play the viola. Ms. Carson explains to each one of us how to correct our mistakes. It s fun because we get to learn about things we enjoy the way we like to learn. By Timothy Vargas The classes I have enjoyed are Math with Ms. Wilson and PE. With Mr. Whittles. Ms. Wilson really describes and explains the Math problems, and Mr. Whittles teaches us new moves when we play soccer. By Michael Garcia I have enjoyed Math at Loiederman Middle School. Mr. Godinez is very funny and lets us do hands on activities so we can understand the Math better. By Jennifer Salgado I like Perspectives and Social Studies at Loiederman Middle school. Ms. Mackie is nice and fun. She lets us do fun things like make our own songs and enter drawing contest. In Mr. Landau s class, we do fun projects like making Egyptian mummies and more. We learn a lot about the first humans and how they survived. By Kadasia Fostian I have enjoyed Dance and Math at Loiederman Middle School. In Dance, Ms. Sanz, creates fun examples in order to make it easy. For example, she said we can pretend that we are sumo wrestlers. That helped a lot. Ms. Whitaker makes Math fun with games. One game that she made up was that she put up a problem, tells us to solve the Math problem. The group who gets it right, gets to shoot in the trash can and we win points. By Iris Flores In Science Ms. Taylor makes us do fun things during class. She also lets us speak our mind and gets along with all the students. By Jelani Bates My favorite subject is Math with Ms. Wilson. We get to have lots of fun playing Jeopardy. By Danny Tobar The Lion s Den 2 Sponsor: Ms. Guerrero

3 Eating Right By Kayla Chandler By Kendra Clarke Did you know that childhood obesity is a problem in this country? The number of obese children has tripled in the last 30 years. There is a way to solve the problem and to lower the amount of obese children in the United States. Eat right! Follow these tips to always stay healthy and then maybe pass it on to a friend! Here are some ways to stay healthy. Eat: *fruits *vegetables *grains *protein (meat, beans, fish, and nuts) *milk and dairy products Did you know that there was a new food pyramid? As you can see, all these foods are a part of the food triangle. But if you have some of these foods each day you should always be and stay healthy! If you don t believe me ask our health teacher, Ms. Williams! The Lion s Den 3 Sponsor: Ms. Guerrero

4 Dear, I like this guy and I m not sure if he likes me too. What should I do? Curious Girl Dear Curious girl, If you really like him and you want to know, ask him. Dear, I think my boyfriend is cheating on me with my best friend. What should I do? Upset Dear Upset, I think you should ask her if she did. If she says no, then ask him. If they both say no, stay calm, but keep your eyes open. Dear, My friend is dating, a girl I like, but he doesn t like her. He s doing it to get back at me. I m worried for her. What should I do? Hurting Guy Dear Hurting Guy, You should tell her that he doesn t really like her. Maybe it is a time for you to confess that you do like her. If you don t tell her, and she finds out, you will wind up being hurt. Do you know the latest fashions for the fall season? You should really look closely to find out! The hottest fashions for right now are skinny jeans, which you can buy from almost any store. Other latest styles are varsity jackets, you can get those are Forever 21. Other things that are in style are Converse, Northface, Nikes, high tops, nerd glasses, leggings, uggs, jeggings and colorful sweaters. You can find all those things at your local mall. Good stores to go to are Forever 21, Aeropostale, American eagle, Hollister, Footlocker, Journeys and Hot Topic. Dear, My best friend copied from my paper during a test. I know that she is my best friend, but it is not fair that I studied all night while she watched TV and now she wanted my correct answers. Should I tell her how I feel? Honesty Dear Honesty, It is always a good idea to tell the truth no matter if it is your best friend. Besides that is what best friends are for to help each other become better in every way.
