20 IT N U E The first man on the Moon was an American astronaut, Neil Armstrong. He arrived there on 20 July 969, after a four-day journey through space. 600 million people watched on TV as he and another astronaut, Buzz Aldrin, walked on the Moon s surface. For two hours they collected rocks, did experiments and took photos. They talked to the American President on the phone.
