20 IT N U E The first man on the Moon was an American astronaut, Neil Armstrong. He arrived there on 20 July 969, after a four-day journey through space. 600 million people watched on TV as he and another astronaut, Buzz Aldrin, walked on the Moon s surface. For two hours they collected rocks, did experiments and took photos. They talked to the American President on the phone. Then they left an American flag on the Moon and went back to their spaceship, Apollo. Reading 2.49 SA M PL Armstrong never went into space again.
