3 MAIN ATTRACTIONS Main Attractions What main films will play at the County? This section lists the Main Attractions that we intend to play in the coming weeks. This list is only an educated guess, though, since film release plans often change. (Additional unlisted films will also become available.) Scheduling our Main Attractions is weekto-week. On Monday, we decide what main films will play starting that Friday. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we set the showtimes for the upcoming week and then update our website and telephone hotline. We also send out a weekly (which you can receive by signing up at our website). Sometimes, we book a main film a few weeks in advance, which we post on our website s Coming Attractions section. Reilly star as comedy icons Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy in this charming period piece. After several disappointing film releases, the duo embarks on a grueling theater tour of post-war Britain to win back their audience. Reilly and Coogan have undeniable chemistry and bring to life the unseen side of these comedic legends. Cold War Poland - Pawel Pawlikowski 1 hr 28 min - w/ subtitles COLD WAR is a beautiful black-andwhite film from Pawel Pawlikowski, the director of 2016 s Academy Awardwinning Ida. His latest spans 15 years and several European countries in a post-war drama that follows the dramatic love story of two Polish musicians. This film hits all of the notes of classic European art house film. On the Basis of Sex USA - Mimi Leder - 2 hr The story of young lawyer Ruth Bader Ginsburg as she brings a groundbreaking case before the U.S. Court of Appeals and overturns a history of gender discrimination. Felicity Jones stars as Ginsburg and Armie Hammer plays her husband. Also with Kathy Bates, Justin Theroux, and Sam Waterston.

4 MAIN ATTRACTIONS Mary Queen of Scots At Eternity s Gate UK - Julian Schnabel - 1 hr 50 min Willem Dafoe takes on the role of Vincent Van Gogh in his final years. Director Schnabel is also an artist and brings an imaginative eye to Van Gogh s work and illness by experimenting with cinematography and narrative storytelling. The film creates a unique experience rather than a traditional biopic. Dafoe gives an inspired performance, supported by Oscar Isaac and Rupert Friend. If Beale Street Could Talk USA - Barry Jenkins - 1 hr 57 min Director Barry Jenkins follow-up to the 2016 Best Picture Winner Moonlight. Set in 1970 s Harlem, this poetic adaptation of James Baldwin s last novel is about a young couple who are planning their life together when one of them is wrongly accused of a crime. Jenkins gorgeous cinematic technique mirrors the thoughtful prose of Baldwin s text. Featuring wonderful performances from KiKi Layne and Stephan James. Everybody Knows Spain - Asghar Farhadi - 2 hr 12 min w/ subtitles Penélope Cruz plays Laura, a woman living in Buenos Aires who returns home to a small town near Madrid for her sister s wedding. When the wedding is interrupted by unexpected events, Laura s past secrets and family troubles are brought to the surface. A brilliant mystery from celebrated Iranian screenwriter and director Asghar Farhadi. Also starring Javier Bardem. C OUNTYT HEATER.ORG

5 MAIN ATTRACTIONS The Favourite UK - Yorgos Lanthimos - 2 hr A hilarious look at 18th century royalty from celebrated Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos. Olivia Colman plays the frail and mercurial Queen Anne of England, whose friend Lady Sarah governs on her behalf. A new servant, Abigail, arrives and soon maneuvers to gain royal influence. This wild, irreverent film also features Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz. If Beale Street Could Talk Mary Queen of Scots UK - Josie Rourke - 2 hrs 5 min Saoirse Ronan stars as Mary Stuart in this elegant and fascinating period piece set in the 16th century. After becoming the Queen of France at 16 and widowed at 18, Mary returns to her native Scotland and is embroiled in the politics of religion and the contentious claims to the throne of England. Also starring Margot Robbie as Queen Elizabeth I. Green Book USA - 2 hr 10 min - Peter Farrelly Mahershala Ali and Viggo Mortensen star in this uplifting drama about a dignified African-American pianist who hires a rough-edged Italian-American bouncer to chauffeur him across the American South in the 1960s. Based on the true story of Don Shirley, GREEN BOOK is an exploration of race and friendship elevated by two exceptional performances. And it has humor, too. Shoplifters Japan - Hirokazu Koreeda - 2 hr 1 min w/ subtitles Japanese filmmaker Hirokazu Koreeda won the Palme d Or at this year s Cannes Film Festival for this wonderful, understated drama. SHOPLIFTERS follows a group of misfit petty criminals, young and old, who form a family unit and share a small apartment. It s 1786 and King George III is the most powerful man in the world, but his behavior is becoming increasingly erratic. With the King s mind unravelling, ambitious politicians and the scheming Prince of Wales threaten to unseat George and expose the fine line between King and man. Tickets: $18 General; $16 Member Young Picasso 1 hr 25 min This insightful film explores Pablo Picasso s upbringing and how it led to his extraordinary artistic achievements. Working closely with all three Picasso Museums in Malaga, Barcelona, and Paris, the film explains how he rose to great heights. The film looks carefully at two key early periods through to 1907 and the creation of a painting critical in the history of art Les Demoiselles d Avignon. Tickets: $14 General; $12 Members Allelujah! 2 hr 52 min w/ 2 intermissions The newest play from Alan Bennett (The History Boys, and The Madness of George III) is his tenth collaboration with director Nicholas Hytner. In this poignant, sometimes bawdy comedy, an older Yorkshire hospital is faced with closure. A documentary crew seeks to capture the stories of the elderly residents, their caretakers, and their families. Filmed live at London s Bridge Theatre during its limited run. Tickets: $18 General; $16 Members Van Gogh: Of Wheat Fields and Clouded Skies 1 hr 30 min A stunning new exploration of the life and work of Van Gogh, through the legacy of the largest private collection of his work: 40 remarkable paintings and 85 drawings from the Kröller- Müller Museum in Holland. These works, now in the exhibition Of Wheat Fields and Clouded Skies at the Basilica Palladina in Vicenza, bring a special focus on the importance of drawing as part Van Gogh s artistic process. Tickets: $14 General; $12 Members The Tragedy of King Richard the Second 2 hr 30 min w/ intermissions Simon Russell Beale plays Richard II in the Almeida Theatre s production of Shakespeare s play. Richard II, King of England, is irresponsible, foolish, and vain. His weak leadership sends his kingdom into disarray and his court into uproar. Seeing no other option but to seize power, the ambitious Bolingbroke challenges the throne and the king s divine right to rule. This visceral new production is directed by Joe Hill-Gibbins. Utilizing state-of-the-art cinematic techniques, commentary from leading art historians, and unprecedented access to the masterpieces themselves, CARAVAGGIO is a must-see for any art lover. 8 THE COUNTY THEATER What the expansion means for you. A large third auditorium means expanded programming. Adding 180 stadium seats in a beautiful new auditorium will allow for more main attractions, more foreign and classic films, and more special events like theater and opera on screen from around the world. There will also be a small stage for discussions and presentations. A new, larger lobby will provide more space to mingle and talk about movies. Plus, we ll have a new concession stand. New, first-floor restrooms. A complete new suite of accessible first-floor bathrooms was the number one request in response to our community survey. Upgrades to our historic theater. The existing historic theater will be renovated with larger, more comfortable seats and other improvements. A new, indoor box office will get you out of bad weather and serve you with multiple ticket sellers (although we ll still use the old box office). You will continue to enter the County through the original theater doors.
