Start times vary from office to office but your day will usually begin between 6am 7am and is split into three main parts preparation, admin/planning time and welcoming your team back from delivery. For the first part of the day you will be out on the shop floor of the Delivery Office, engaging with your teams and ensuring mail is prepared and ready for delivery. Working within a unionised environment, you need your team to understand the commercial and competitive market we are in so that they are customer-focused, open to new technology and flexible to change, Clear communication is key to this so your role will include daily discussions around performance and a longer weekly session on specific topics, as requested by our Internal Communications Team. For the second part of the day, the team will go out on delivery whilst you complete administrative, planning and management activity in the office. You will oversee key people, customer, efficiency and financial measures, as well as carry out continuous improvement activities, ensuring that the unit is as effective and efficient as possible. Cover Manager part time roles will usually finish when the staff go out on delivery. At the end of the day, you will have a debrief with your team as they return to the office and carry out regulatory security and safety checks, as specified within our Operations Standards. You will need to communicate the plan for the next day in terms of covering all delivery walks, making sure everyone understands what they need to do. Your average day will finish around 3pm The role of a Cover Manager is to carry out the full duties and responsibilities of the role that you are covering. It is important that you complete a thorough handover with the manager you will cover before you go into the office and again when they return so that the transition is as smooth as possible.
