1 Where theatre begins Spring/Summer 2018 Season
2 Remember Welcome to when? My oldest children were very young when we came to see shows like Please Mrs Butler. I remember we felt moved and uplifted. Much later, Polka did versions of my Pinocchio, We re Going on a Bear Hunt and Happy Harry s Cafe. All were exciting, thoughtful, productions taking children seriously, engaging them in feelings and ideas. Michael Rosen Children s novelist, poet, performer and Polka Patron Welcome to our new Spring/Summer season at Polka. We re delighted to be presenting a feast of new productions, classes and workshops, celebrating some of the greatest living writers for children. With more than 4 million views on YouTube, Michael Rosen s is one of his most popular poems. Now published as a picture book, Polka are delighted to adapt it for the stage in a new musical version. Yum! We re also reviving a Polka Classic, an adaptation of Jacqueline Wilson s Double Act, adapted and directed by Vicky Ireland MBE. A gripping story about Ruby and Garnet, two very different twins. Share your special Polka memories with us As we approach our 40th birthday (in 2019), we d love you to send us your favourite memories of Polka. Whether you are aged 8 months or 80, your memory may be featured in our special anniversary play or in a living history display planned for our theatre redevelopment. To share your memories, please visit polkatheatre.com/rememberwhen For younger children in our Adventure Theatre, a few highlights are an extraordinary puppetry adaptation of Julia Donaldson s book The Everywhere Bear, and This is my Bed an unique collaboration with English Touring Opera. We are also very excited to present Techtopia, a festival of digital delights which explores how technology shapes our lives and our thinking. We look forward to seeing you soon.
