London Fields Post Issue 25 Term WEEK 2014 Last week was Science Week at London Fields! It all kicked off with the ProEducation Science Magic Show where we saw experiments from balloon rockets to exploding film canisters! We then got to lead some of our own investigations in our classes, and gained some fascinating scientific understanding as a result. If it s proof you want; just ask year 5 to talk to you about lung capacity, or year 4 to tell you all about rockets. In our year groups we also conducted some of our own research into the lives and works of some famous scientists. Here are a few snaps from the week, and stay tuned on the website over the next few weeks for more details about what we got up to!
Bring me the correct answer to the prize question on a piece of paper (you can find me in Rimu class) and you could be picked at random to receive a special Geography prize! Yes, this is Miss Goddard in her jungle gear! Let s take a closer look at Did you know Qatar lies in the Middle East and belongs to the Asian continent. A flight to Doha/Qatar take roughly 7 hours from London. Qatar being a muslim country, has a different working week than we know it. The week runs from Sundays to Thursdays, as their shops are usually closed on Fridays and Saturdays. Did you know that oil-rich Qatar is the second richest country in the world after Lichtenstein, although it is one of the smallest countries in the world.? Prize question: Which exciting sporting event will take place in Qatar in 2022? Well done to Ziyaad in Year 5 who correctly identified the famous Inca settlement in Peru as Machu Pichu!

Year 2 Re Trip 18/03/14 Year 2 went to St Michael and All Angels church in London Fields. We met Minister Daniel who taught about the story of Easter. A few of us processed around the Church with palms like Christians do on Palm Sunday. We counted all the crosses we could find and talked about the images of angels and Jesus.
Meet Kaci McAuley, Author. Lost and found Once upon a time there lived a girl called Sarah. One morning Sarah went down to the river and she got lost. One hour later a dog and cat came along the path, what Sarah did not know was that one of them was going to lie to her. Kaci First, the cat said Sarah, follow me. I can show you the way home. Just then, the dog barked out loud saying Don t follow the cat, follow me! I can take you home. Sarah took a coin out of her pocket and said heads or tails? The cat said tails and the dog said heads. Suddenly, she flipped the coin into the air and it landed on heads. After that Sarah skipped off with the dog. The dog took her all the way home safely and happily. Written and typed by Kaci McAuley, Yellow Class, Year 2.
London Fields brings the laughter! Hi! I m Casper from ELM class! Welcome to my weekly jokes column! I am in charge of all things funny at the London Fields Post so if you have any hilarious (but suitable) jokes for the paper, then come and find me! We might not always have space for all of them but I promise to try! These ones are some of my favourites, enjoy! Doctor doctor I keep seeing double? Take a seat. Which one?! Why did the music teacher have a ladder? To reach the high notes. What s a pirate s favourite letter? R. Casper And this week s guest joke comes courtesy of Chiemela! What do you call a dinosaur on a race bike? B M Rex And the winner for best coat ever goes to As you can probably tell from his immaculate presentation everyday (ahem. Ed.), Mr Bass is a bit of fashion expert. He likes to think of himself as being very up to date on all things vogue (including sparkly jumpers), but loves it when some new trends are shown to him... And what could be more impressive than Te Aonehe s incredible fireman coat, complete with a hat attached to the hood?! We just have one question... Does it come in an adult s Medium? (XL. Ed.)
Mr Bass visits Karate Club! Last Friday I (Mr Bass) was fortunate enough to be invited to Karate Club by Josh M from Palm class. I was so impressed by what I saw! The discipline and concentration on display was extremely impressive. Sarah from Palm class admits that Karate Club is Not easy, but extremely enjoyable and rewarding. Onur class agrees that it is very challenging but loves learning how to kick, punch and block. Josh M explains the meaning behind their positions when they line up for training The most dedicated and impressive students stand at the front as a reward for their efforts. So there is always the incentive to do your best! It was good to spot Lutia, a familiar face from literacy, right at the front! Well done to all members of Karate Club for their hard work, and a big thank you to their dedicated and passionate Sensei!
BIKERS BREAKFAST WHAT AN EVENT!!! Thank you to everyone who came along to the bikers breakfast last Friday. It was a great morning! We kept the bike doctors busy with over 25 bikes to check and fix so that they were ready to hit the road safely. Well done if you cycled to school that day too! Thanks again to Queen Fiona for rustling up another delicious breakfast for us all. Keeeeeeeeeeeep cycling!!!! Miss Bysshe and Green Team
In photography club this week we explored macro photography. Macro photographs are extreme close ups. We learned that rather than using the zoom we should move our cameras closer to our subject to create a great macro photo with the subject in focus. The photo of the week was taken by Daniel this week. Well done! In photography club last week we looked again at the Rule of Thirds. The photo of the week is from Kaan. This photo breaks the Rule of Thirds because the point of interest is right in the middle. Sometimes this makes for a more striking image, like this one. Well done Kaan.
Here are the class averages for levels passed. The class that has made the most progress this week is Willow! Class Average Levels Passed Cherry 42 Poplar 41 Willow 54 Lilac 29 Holly 27 Cedar 30 Lime 25 Palm 21 Rimu 21 Elm 13 Oak 8 And the individual winners are. Zemanga from Willow!
