I hope you don t mind the smaller print as I thought it best to save the trees. As usual if you have anything you wish to add please contact me at the club address jadcmembershipsecretary@yahoo. co.uk or telephone me on WESITE NEWS I am happy to advise that the club finally has a website and I hope that you will all spend a little time looking at it and sending us your comments. The website can be assessed through MNLG which is the address of Martin Hodge who is our web designer We are very lucky to have received the services of Martin as he is a very experienced web designer and has offered to do this for us for free. You will see when you access the web address that there are many other sites so please take some time to look at these too. If there is anything you wish to have added to the website please me and I will arrange for it to be added. I am especially looking for old programs, photos newspaper cuttings of previous shows. You will see that there are two sides to the website the Stalls which is open access and the Members Boxes which is a restricted area. This area is password protected and can only be accessed by JADC Members the password will be sent to you once your subscriptions are received. The Wizard of Oz AUDITIONS AUDITIONS The Wizard of Oz Director - Nick Carver Choreographer Christophe Chateau Musical Director Tim Evans Wardrobe Wizard Val Nelson Technical Manager Helen Attenborough Puppet Master Andy Heath Video Production Jay Hutchinson Jersey Opera House June 2008 We must be over the Rainbow! Show Details: This is going to be an extremely exciting and innovative production and the first time that the RSC version of the famous story will be performed at the Opera House. The RSC version is almost identical in script and music to the beloved MGM movie and, of course, all of the iconic characters are just waiting to be brought to life. We are brimming with dynamic ideas to make this production both magical and breath-taking. Many aspects of the production will be technical/artistic firsts for the club and being part of the team is guaranteed to be a life-time memory. The production will run for 13 performances between June 18 th 28 th Rehearsals will begin late February/early March 2008, with specialist workshops for puppeteering planned during Easter and May half term holidays. Auditions will be quirky and fun but please be prepared to work hard and bring lots of energy with you! The auditions will be held at the Barn on Sunday 14 th October in two sessions as follow: 10am 2pm: Dorothy and Ensemble. 5pm 7pm: Scarecrow / Tinman/ Cowardly Lion 7pm 9pm: Glinda / Wicked Witch / Wizard of Oz / Uncle Henry NB: Please note that people auditioning in the morning for Dorothy/Ensemble may be called back for Principal auditions from 5pm. If you would like to audition for a Principal role but would also like to be considered for the Ensemble you MUST attend the morning session as the
2 2Page 2 of 6Page 2 of 666 Puppetteering workshop will take place at this time. Former JADC member Andy Heath designs, creates and operates puppets for Disney & Henson s and has a string of West End, TV and film credits. Andy will be putting puppeteers through their paces during the morning auditions. Andy will be creating the Munchkins as puppets and all members of the Ensemble will be trained in their operation during rehearsals in special workshops. The Wizard of Oz is one of the most well-loved and magical of shows and we are expecting the auditions to be Well attended, so please be prepared for a busy day! If you have any questions, call Nick on or him: stick@jerseymail.co.uk And, finally, the most important part the characters! All 8 of the Principal characters have a Kansas role and an Oz alter-ego. Strong, solid American accents are vital for all of the Principal characters. Here are the details and character profiles for each role: Look forward to seeing you at the auditions! Good Luck! Role/ Audition Song Dorothy Over the Rainbow Hunk/ Scarecrow If I only had a brain Hickory/ Tinman If I only had a heart Zeke/ Cowardly Lion If I were King of the Forest Aunt Em/ Glinda Come out, wherever you are Miss Gulch/ Wicked Witch of the West Age Performing range requirements Acting, singing, dancing Acting, singing, dancing Acting, singing, dancing (Tap advantageous) Acting, singing, good, expressive movement Acting, singing. This character will fly so must be brave with a head for heights Acting, This character will fly so must be brave with a head for heights. Character profile Dorothy is the central character of the story. She is on-stage constantly. A demanding role, she is a feisty, determined young lady. Hunk is Dorothy s best friend in Kansas and becomes the elasticlimbed, brainless but very loveable Scarecrow. Hickory is a sentimental and gentle soul. As the Tinman his movements are restrictive, but he displays much emotion. Zeke and his Oz counter-part, the Lion, are over-the-top hams. A real comical character with super lines. Great timing essential. Aunt Em is practical and dowdy but transforms into the glamorous yet eccentric Glinda, The Good Witch of the North. Miss Gulch is a heartless spinster who transforms into the terrifying Wicked Witch of the West the epitome of evil. Truly fantastic character part must be frightening!! Uncle Henry/ Gate-keeper of Emerald City/Wizard s Guard Acting, singing. Kindly Uncle Henry becomes two very different yet outrageous and comical characters at the Emerald City.

Other roles include: Emerald Citizens Flying Monkeys Witch s Guards Poppies - Snowflakes Talking Trees Jitterbugs Comical Crows. Forthcoming Productions All members are invited to make their reservations at the Art Centre NOW for this play which is gathering steam in its final week of rehearsal. Tickets are starting to go well..please get your friends to make up a party! You ll remember I promised a funny and frantic play well, I am pretty confident you won t be disappointed the Cast and Production team has gelled well together. Rehearsals have gone well, the set is looking good and most behind-the-scenes preparations are well in hand. We will be pleased to receive some extra help, both on Saturday 21 st from 0930h, dismantling the rehearsal set and packing up the truck ready for the get-in, and then on Sunday morning from 0930h at The Arts Centre when we join forces with the Theatre team and everything and everyone come together in good time for a Tech rehearsal that evening at 1800h. I am especially looking for a skilled carpet layer to do our staircase and platforms any offers please call me on or TXT to arrange a time Sunday morning (preferably). The get-out on Saturday night immediately after the final performance on 29 th September will also welcome some skilled hands as we carefully dismantle the set, with re-cycling uppermost in our minds, and re-pack the truck. Similarly, a few hands Sunday 30 th September at a time to be decided will be much appreciated by Helen and Gareth. The cast will be looking forward to seeing you after the show each night in CAFEJAC and hearing your opinion. Maurice
4 4Page 4 of 6Page 4 of 666 The show touches many moods just as the songs did. Alternately upbeat and optimistic, humorous, sentimental, nostalgic and moving. All the great numbers like Well meet again White Cliffs of Dover Lili Marlene Underneath the Arches There ll Always be an England and Bless em all are there but so too is the wonderful big band music of In the Mood, Chatanooga Choo choo, sing sing sing, Tuxedo Junction and Frenesi as well as many Hollywood hits of the time including, Don t sit under the Apple Tree, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Baby it s cold outside Swinging on a star A nightingale sang in Berkley Square, I ll be seeing you How about you Begin the Beguine Taking a chance on Love and many many more. There are 40 musical gems to delight in plus the spectacular choreography of Agnetta Pinel and Rachel Anne Jones to enjoy, be it jitterbug, ballroom, Latin or tap. Come along, join in the singing if you like, merely sit back nostalgically, or maybe learn afresh about these morale boosting songs, that helped to win the Second World War. Tessa Coleman s We ll Meet Again is presented at the Jersey Arts Centre from Tuesday 23rd to Saturday 27 th October. Wind in the Willows More Men needed As always Pat is looking for Men. What jobs are included in the television industry? JADC is exclusively introducing TV Club for younger members of the club. Using industry standard (BBC), you will be taught the process of how to put together films and then make your own productions in groups. Whether it be adverts, music videos, screen tests or small length dramas; experience what it is like to work behind and in front of the camera. All students will be presented with a DVD of all the work they have taken part in throughout the term. Places are limited, so booking is essential. You can contact Jay Hutchinson on mobile number: or him at i2eye@hotmail.co.uk for more information. TV club starts on the 7th October, 10am - 12pm and continues every Sunday until 2nd December. 75 introductory offer. jerseyamateurdramaticsclub@yahoo. co.uk And Finally don t forget were on the Web!
