Welcome Word from your Chairperson: Welcome to you all! Having taken over the Chair in August from Guy, it has been all go! For those of you who are new members to the Club, you may not realise that I have been a member for many years and used to regularly tread the boards in various guises (normally with very little clothes on!) However my first performance for the Club was when I was nine years old as Priam s Page in Troy Troy Again. So for all you youngsters you could be Chairing this club in a few years time! One of my objectives is to raise the profile of the JADC; we have a great membership base and I would like further participation from all members in respect of technical and costume assistance as well as turning up to support the shows. We have a very exciting production schedule for 2007/2008 some of which will be announced very soon. I would like the youth and more experienced members to work together; this is the only way our youngsters will develop their experience and skills so as we can look to the future for our up and coming directors and producers. The Committee is working very hard to look at the future of the Club and we will hopefully be addressing all the matters raised at the last AGM at our next Members Meeting in August. Please continue your support and if you have any suggestions about how you would like to see the JADC progress, please me on trudichris.roscouet@jerseymail.co.uk. Remember it is your Club! Trudi Roscouet (nee Kelly!) PANTO AT THE OK CORRAL 2
By Christopher Davey This was your correspondent s first participating Panto; when I was a nipper, my mother used to drag me kicking and screaming along to the old Forum in the 50s absolutely criminal that they should have knocked it down -- on the pretext that: All right, boy, I don t enjoy it, you don t enjoy it; but it is simply something we jolly well go and do. So I went; and, little by little, the terrors ebbed away, and I really started looking forward to panto. But it was a long time before I could be convinced that those people in their mediaeval costumes were just ordinary folk dressed up, and the Captain Hook nightmares ebbed away. Meanwhile, as my mother continued to grit her teeth, I became increasingly persuaded. But that was then, with your Cinderellas and Snow Whites, A Pat Dubras Panto is modern, totally inter-active, a new experience as is the taking part. She finally persuaded me aboard with that gentle touch for which she is known and loved. She s behind you. but I just wasn t quick enough. Jim Sperink s panto is a spoof on the whole Wild West Cowboy scene, bringing to life all those memorable characters like Jessie James (Jordan Livesey), Calamity Jane (Alice Veitch), Buffalo Bill (Jonathan Rennard). We also saw such modern characters as Clint Westwood (Sam Vieira), Butch Casserole (Fraser Martin) & the Sun-Tanned Kid (Ben Talbot) -- complete with (Water)- Pistols. And the Pantomime Horse (Simon Parker & Oliver Kennedy), of course, which some lucky little lad got to ride each show. To upstage the Green Room Club we had not one but two Dames (Mike Monticelli & Richard Haighton). Chris Talbot furthered his career as the ultimate baddie, Sheriff Small Holding, with the leery chuckle. Patricia Robinson-Leigh headed the happy band of Tiny Tots with Peter Pearce s Gold-Making Machine. Philip Perchard played the importunately cunning Injun. Michelle Taylor & Caroline Dutot pandered to the adult punters as the jolly harlots as, for that matter, did one or two of those raunchy dance routines Rehearsals were a joy -- quiet, efficient and fun: oh, it does make a difference when people mostly the girls, be it said -- have been firmly discouraged from gas-bagging all the time! We arrived at the Arts Centre in good heart with Robin Le Boutillier s and Ed Church s slick lego-set, seriously sceptical that, post-christmas, we would be ready, and that it was going to work -- notwithstanding Pat s and Gloria s innovative efforts with Direction and Dance Routines. Rex Moss and his music-makers came in bang on queue except when, as scripted, they missed! Sylvia Marquis costumed us, with Val Nelson doing the Dames Finale dresses; Elsa Moya never missed on Props; Gayle Jones did our make-ups; Nick Carver the Artwork. And many thanks to all who came and subbed in night after night! And Margot Kelly and Alan Keeling sold programmes and raffle tickets at each performance -- thankless but essential work. These pantos are a superb training ground for the youngsters, as they grab the opportunities to pick up, from Direction and from the old pros, so much of the art of timing and of ad lib techniques -- Ben Talbot and Jordan Livesey evinced the most rewarding transformations: both can have glittering careers ahead of them. The Tiny Tots, too, loved their new adventure, to wit: the irrepressible PJ Ruderham (6)! And maybe some of the young enthusiasts from the audiences, too, will be tempted soon to tread the boards with us. Quite a few performances were well attended, particularly latterly once the word had got around; but most were not. The support of Club Members was as dire as ever. Your Club is not just about performing in the glam shows: it is about volunteering for Chorus work and helping back stage in all productions, big and small. We know where you live! Oh yes, we do! 3
Daisy Pulls it Off 3-4 and 6-10 March 2007 at the Jersey Arts Centre Daisy Pulls it Off is set in 1925 and is a pastiche (a kind of send-up) of girls' schools at that time. Daisy battles against all the odds, including the nastiness and plotting of Sybil and Monica, and of course (well, she is the heroine!) wins through in the end. Please book your tickets now by calling the Jersey Arts Centre Box Office on Support this fantastic production directed by Sonia Hamon and performed by your fellow Club members! 4
Fiddler on the Roof June 2007 Directed by Carol Ruderham Fiddler on the Roof tells the life-affirming story of Tevye, a poor milkman, whose love, pride and faith help him face the oppression of turn-of-the century czarist Russia. Including such wellknown songs as Matchmaker, If I Were a Rich Man, and Sunrise Sunset, this production is sure to be a hit, so please show your support to fellow Club members and book your tickets. Call the Jersey Opera House Box Office on today! 5
James and the Giant Peach 16 and 23 June at 10.30am and 2.30pm and 17 and 24 June at 2.30pm at the Jersey Opera House Orphan James is sent to live with his aunts, Spiker and Sponge, after his parents are killed in a tragic accident involving a rhino. James s aunts are mean and horrible, but then he meets a strange old man who gives him a bag containing the strongest magic in the world. When James accidentally spills it near an old peach tree, the most marvellous things happen and his adventure begins. With his new friends, Centipede, Earthworm, Grasshopper, Ladybird and Spider, James sets off on an incredible journey in the Giant Peach, across the ocean to New York. Book your tickets today by calling the Box Office on
AN INVITATION FOR ALL CLUB MEMBERS WHO KNOW LUIS DE ABREU Dear all You may remember Luis who was a very busy member of the JADC he couldn t be kept off the stage! Luis has done some remarkable things in his life. Not only did he follow his dream of becoming a professional dancer, he is now vice principal of Doreen Bird College in London. Anyway, he is bringing a team over to audition Channel Island children to go to Bird College in September What I would love to do is hold a party for him at my house on Sunday 4 March from 6pm. Would be great if you could bring a bottle! If you would like to come and say hello (even bring a few old photos!) then please call me on or mnc842@jerseymail.co.uk Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible! Collette Labey 7

The JADC annual dinner This year our Club dinner will be held at the Hotel Ambassadeur on St Clement s Coast Road on Saturday 24 March, 7.30pm for 8pm. Black tie or lounge suit for gentlemen and evening or cocktail dresses for the ladies. The tickets are 25 per head for a four-course set menu, plus coffee. The menu looks delicious, with four choices on each course which can be decided upon arrival. It's a dark and stormy night at Tudor Hall... Dr Black's guests are waiting in the library for their host to join them... Mrs White makes the call for dinner, but before Reverend Green can say Grace, a grisly discovery is made... Enjoy a night of gruesome goings-on and malicious motives at the CLUEDO murder mystery, organized by our very own Nick Carver and friends. A raffle will be held, so if anyone has any worthwhile prizes, please contact Pat and Ed with the details. Anyone wishing to book for the dinner, please call Pat and Ed on They are away until 26 February, so please leave your name and details on the answerphone. 9
