Dear Friends A Message from the Chairman 3 I am really excited that this is MMT s first ever production of a pantomime (oh yes, it is!) and I m delighted that we ve chosen to do a traditional version of a great favourite Cinderella. We have been incredibly fortunate to have such a talented production team in the form of Ziggi Szafranski (Director), Liz Cooper (MD) and Emma Hone (Choreographer). Liz, of course, has been our MD for many of our shows. Emma choreographed Stand by your Beds in June and we re so pleased that she wanted to continue her good work by staying with us for Cinderella. Many of you will remember Ziggi when he played Dexter in our production of High Society last year and this is his first foray into the world of directing. For those of you who know him on stage, I hope you will enjoy the results of his work off stage equally as much. Since Stand by your Beds at the beginning of June, it s been a busy time for many of us at MMT. As well as rehearsing for the panto, a number of our members came together in October to put on a fundraising cabaret evening at the Mada Deli in East Molesey. A wonderfully talented line-up entertained the audience with songs from a variety of popular musicals while they (the guests, not the performers!) enjoyed glasses of fizz and a delicious three course supper. It was another first for MMT and one we will most definitely be repeating. Fundraising is key to our survival as it becomes ever more expensive to put on quality shows, so being able to include a regular cabaret evening will be a great addition to our other regular fundraisers, the Long Ditton Tea Party and the annual quiz. We put on a concert each November for elderly residents at a tea party organised by the trustees of Long Ditton Hall and next year s quiz will be here, at the Vera Fletcher, on Saturday 4 th February. Of course, as soon as Cinders has found her prince for the last time on Sunday afternoon, we will be starting preparations for our 2017 Spring show. We re delighted to be one of the first amateur societies to be producing Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. I saw this last year at The Savoy, London with Robert Lindsay in the lead role. It s based on the 1988 film with Steve Martin and Michael Caine and is a comedy musical about two fraudsters on the Riviera, who are both equally determined to outwit each other. It s guaranteed to be loads of fun and if you re interested in being involved (whether on or off the stage), come along to the launch night at Vine Hall, East Molesey on Wednesday 4 th January. We re always looking for volunteers to help off stage as well as performing on stage, so do get in touch if you think you can assist in some way. So now it just remains for me to encourage you to sit back and join us in Panto Land. Forget about all the Christmas shopping that is still to be done and have some fun for the next couple of hours. With best wishes for a very merry Christmas and happy and healthy New Year. Carolyn Jacks, Chairman

NODA 5 THE NATIONAL OPERATIC AND DRAMATIC ASSOCIATION (NODA) Founded in 1899, NODA is the leading representative body for amateur theatre in the UK. The Association has a membership of approximately 2400 amateur theatre groups and over 2000 individual members staging musicals, operas, plays, concerts and pantomimes in a wide variety of venues ranging from the country s leading professional theatres to village halls. Covering a broad spectrum of age ranges NODA member societies meet the needs of all levels of both performers, whether dramatic, dance or musical, and those involved backstage, front of house or in society administration. NODA aims: To give a shared voice to amateur theatre To help societies and individuals achieve the highest standards of best practice and performance. To provide leadership and advice to enable amateur theatre to tackle the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century To achieve these aims NODA is divided into eleven regions, each headed by a regional councillor who sits on the national council (ruling body of the Association), and supported by a network of regional representatives and officials. These volunteers are the vital link to the grass roots of the Association; the amateur theatre groups themselves and their members. For more information please visit

A bit of fun Choose the right path and help Cinderella get to her Fairy Godmother. Molesey Musical Theatre would like to thank Foresters Financial for sponsoring the Sunday afternoon performance of Cinderella. We hope you all have a wonderful time oh yes we do! 7
8 Production Team Ziggi Szafranski This is Ziggi s directorial debut with Molesey Musical Theatre, having previously played a number of leading male roles. Joining the Society in 2011 for Carousel as Jigger, the scoundrel who leads Billy to his death, he went on to appear as the loveable Cookie in Return to the Forbidden Planet, the musical Nanki Poo in The Mikado, the hopeless romantic Dexter in High Society and was the inaugural recipient of the Alan Young Memorial Award for contributions behind the scenes. Ziggi has had a love of panto since he first performed in Ali Baba in the 1993/4 season, going on to perform in most pantomime stories, and is eagerly awaiting Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to complete the set, so do let him know when auditions are! When he s not performing or directing, Ziggi is a freelance singer, scenographer and teacher; he teaches singing, musical theatre, acting and drama privately, and is responsible for academic drama at the Purcell School where he teaches up to A-Level. He is delighted to be directing the Society s first visit to Pantoland and would like to thank everyone who has helped bring this production to life. Elizabeth Cooper Liz has been involved with Musical Theatre for many years, initially as a music teacher, then later as repetiteur and musical director for a number of local operatic societies. In recent years Liz has been Musical Director for many shows with Molesey Musical Theatre. Recent shows have included Fiddler on the Roof, The Mikado, Anything Goes and The Boy Friend. Liz has thoroughly enjoyed playing the wide variety of music included in Cinderella and hopes that the audience will also take great pleasure in the old and new musical favourites being played tonight. Emma Hone Emma fell in love with dancing when she started lessons at the age of six and now works as a dancer, dance teacher and choreographer. Over the years she has studied lots of different styles of dance and has taught all ages from 18 months to over 80! These days, other than her husband and children, dancing takes up all her time. Emma runs her own Burlesque dance company, offering classes and working as a performer. Emma also works as a MAD Academy agent teaching music and dance classes to under 5s and works at Monarch Studios in Chertsey teaching children s ballet, tap, jazz and gymnastic dance classes and adult tap. Dancing is Emma s life.

12 The Principals Isabel Barrett - Cinderella Isabel studied Acting at university and so spent her late teens and early 20s performing in student repertory productions throughout the Midlands and East Lothian. Principle roles include Olivia, 'Twelfth Night', Madeline in 'Nicholas Nickleby', Queen Margaret, 'Richard III' and half of a comedy duo in 'Robin Hood the pantomime.' Upon graduating she took a side step into a traineeship as a Theatre, TV and Radio technician at Riverside Studios where she was thrilled to help set up the shoot for David Beckham's 'Police' commercial! Later Isabel took another side step into theatre management and spent two years learning how to run and more to the point, fund theatre. Other than the arts, Isabel loves learning about science and the natural world. Ellen Fermie - Prince Charming Ellen recently decided to rekindle her love of the stage by performing in local amateur dramatic groups like Molesey Musical Theatre. Her recent shows include 'The Snow Queen' and 'Stand By Your Beds'. She is also a member of Vocality Singing, a community choir in Claygate. Ellen saw her first proper pantomime in Wimbledon, when she came to Britain 25 years ago from the States, and has been hooked ever since, never imagining she would one day play the 'Prince-ipal Boy' in Cinderella! Polly Ashton - Dandini My 4 year old daughter was thrilled when I told her I was going to be in Cinderella, only to be bitterly disappointed to then discover I was going to be playing a man and not only that the baddie!! I m thrilled to be a part of Molesey s first foray into panto and my first time as the bad guy. After 10 years with Molesey Musical Theatre it s about time. Previous roles include: Bonnie (Anything Goes), Maisie (The Boyfriend), Calamity (Calamity Jane), Irene (Crazy For You), Dick (Dick Whittington) and most recently a heavily pregnant maid (High Society). Steve Nottage - Buttons Steve was born at an early age and soon after discovered the unique delights of pantomime, later taking his panto skills into his working world as an Environmental Health Officer (oh yes he did!). His first-ever foray on stage was in panto at the Vera Fletcher Hall 14 years ago and he thought his pantos were all behind him. However, MMT performing its first-ever panto gives Steve the opportunity to fulfil a lifetime s ambition by playing the part of Buttons. Friends and family won t tell the difference between on and off-stage Steve! When not frolicking on stage, Steve enjoys his hobbies of walking backwards, pigeon scaring and paying his taxes*. *Some of this is not true! (Oh yes it is!)
The Principals 13 Kevin King - Baron Mum Kevin has performed in a number of shows with MMT over the years including Carousel, Stand by Your Beds, Trial by Jury and The Mikado. Cinderella will be his fourth pantomime in four years. In all the previous pantos he has played the baddie so he s really looking forward to playing the kind, if somewhat hapless, Baron. Alison Wheeler - Baroness Mum Alison, a Mezzo-Soprano, is a Graduate of the Vocal Studies Dip TCL Course at Trinity College of Music London in She took part in the recent MMT production of Stand by your Beds. Alison works locally and supports the work of the PCC at St Peter's Church West Molesey which is near her home and Alison regularly organises their Patronal and Christmas Concerts. Nigel Cassidy - Maxie Mum Nigel studied Music at Royal Holloway College and voice at Trinity College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He has sung extensively as a baritone in both opera and concerts including performances with Cologne Bach Choir, Stravinsky s Mass with the Philharmonia Chorus and a concert performance of Copland s Opera, The Second Hurricane, with Leonard Slatkin and the BBC Concert Orchestra. Nigel teaches music at Salesian College in Farnborough and is also Director of Music at All Saints Weston Church in Esher. Last year Nigel was the Musical Director for Molesey Musical Theatre s acclaimed production of High Society! This is Nigel's first time as a Panto dame and he has enjoyed it far too much! Mike Read - Minnie Mum Oh no I haven t - worn a dress before, as Minnie this is my first time in a skirt - you d better believe it. And, oh yes I have - moved from the back to the front of the stage that is. I have performed in two shows with A.C.T. With M.M.T., at the end of May, I was Bob the porter in Stand by Your Beds. However, I have had nearly 40 years experience backstage, starting in professional theatres including the Royal Exchange in Manchester & Glyndebourne Opera in Sussex. I have designed, built, painted and stage managed a vast number of productions for schools and amateur theatre companies. My last design and construction was for I Capulet e IMontecchi for Guildford Opera.
12 14 The Principals Annie Genower - Fairy Godmother Annie is delighted to be playing the role of the Fairy Godmother in MMT's first Pantomime. This will be the third Panto she has been in - last Jan, also playing the Fairy Godmother, in Hansel & Gretal, with Addlestone Community Theatre, and in 2014, she was the cat in Dick Whittington, also with Addlestone. She has been with MMT since 2007 appearing in many of their productions, her favourite role being Mother Lord in High Society in In May this year, she thoroughly enjoyed playing Mrs Grey (captain Mainwairing's love interest) in Addlestone 's production of Dad's Army. Bill Minter - Town Crier Bill Minter joined Molesey Musical Theatre this year after a long period during which he did not perform, but he was previously active in his local amateur dramatic and music societies, taking leading parts in plays such as the Devil s Disciple, Tobias and the Angel and Pride and Prejudice, and singing for a Gilbert and Sullivan society in Iolanthe. Andy Bloomfield - Major Domo This is my 5th show with MMT mainly in the chorus although I died on stage last time (part of the script). This time I have a minor role as the Major Domo, trying to find the owner of the slipper. This time its a panto which is great fun. I really look forward to performing with this group of very talented players. Darryl Tullett - Emcee It's 14 years since Darryl performed in his first panto, Aladdin and his last! So he said at the time! So what changed his mind? Darryl has been a regular member of MMT for many years now and can honestly say he has enjoyed every single show. MMT has given him opportunities to perform songs he never thought he'd ever sing on stage as well as play parts he never thought he'd play. He goes on to say there is a lovely friendly family atmosphere here & when first asked to do Cinderella he screwed his nose up, but followed that with, "yeah ok then you've twisted my arm". He's so glad he agreed to do the show as he has enjoyed every rehearsal. He feels certain that that enjoyment will come through during show week.
