Region Ten Community Services Board Offers self- help programs, intensive substance abuse outpatient programs and a community outreach program. Charges vary with income, and can be reduced or waived for very low income persons. TRANSPORTATION General Commuter Information (888) Charlottesville Free Trolley Operates between downtown Charlottesville and the University of Virginia area. See back cover Charlottesville Albemarle Transit Service (CAT) Public bus transit to the Charlottesville/Albemarle Community offering standard and regular routes with fixed time schedules. JAUNT Inc Provides transportation to area citizens, serving both the general public and human service agency clients, and provides transportation to citizens with disabilities. Offender Aid and Restoration (OAR) May provide free bus passes during job seeking period. University Transit Service (UTS) Operates a bus in and around the Grounds of the University of Virginia. During the shelter period, intake begins each night between 5:30 and 5:45 pm. An anonymous twelve-step mutual support group for families of alcoholics and drug abusers. Narcotics Anonymous Twelve- step, self-help group for recovery from drug abuse. Referrals are available to on-site service providers offering substance abuse assessment, mental health peer support, financial literacy and counseling, legal assistance, public housing applications, resume development and job search coaching. They also can make referrals for overnight shelter, health advocacy, and social services such as food stamp screening. October - April, open 7:00am 5:00pm. EMPLOYMENT Unlike years ago, looking for a job today takes knowledge of computers and use of the Internet. Some job ads are placed in local newspapers, The Hook, C Ville Weekly (free weekly papers) and the Daily Progress, but the majority will be found on websites. Charlottesville Department of Social Services Albemarle County Department of Social Services Mental Health of America of Charlottesville NAMI (National Alliance of Mentally Ill) Blue Ridge Family Alliance Old Garth Rd., Charlottesville Family Support Meetings: First Thursday of the month : 5:30pm to 7:00pm. A local affiliate of National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI). On Our Own Fourth St NW, Charlottesville Hours: Monday-Saturday, 12pm-7:00pm Closed Sunday To provide mutual support, self-help, advocacy, education, information and referral services for individuals who acknowledge having significant problems in their lives due to mental illness and who are seeking to take responsibility for their own growth and recovery while supporting each other. PARENTING ASSISTANCE Charlottesville Youth and Family Services Real Dads Program ext. 252 Support and resources for fathers who are incarcerated or who are coming home from incarceration. Also, support for high-risk, low-income fathers. TransParenting Program ext. 269 One time 4 hour class designed to help families support their children during major family transitions. Job Seeker Assistance (continued) Offender Aid and Restoration (OAR) Harris Street, #207, Charlottesville Hours: Monday Thursday 8:30am-4:30pm Friday 7:30am-3:30pm The Re-entry Program at OAR works with people who face barriers because of their criminal records. Their staff assist ex-offenders with job readiness skills, job strategizing, preparing for applying and interviewing with criminal records, creating resumes and also may help with transportation during the job searching period. The staff also work with addressing all needs and barriers faced because of criminal convictions. JOB TRAINING, COUNSELING AND PLACEMENT PROGRAMS (No cost to you) There will be eligibility requirements to meet in order to obtain assistance through these programs Virginia Department of Rehabilitative Services Virginia Workforce Center Hydraulic Road, Suite 100, Charlottesville Helps persons with disabilities find and keep jobs and/or reach a higher level of independence in daily living. You must attend an orientation and meet eligibility requirements before assistance can be given. Call for time of weekly orientation. Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) at the Virginia Workforce Center 2211 Hydraulic Road, Charlottesville SCSEP offers an employment program for individuals 55 and older who need to learn new skills to become more employable. Paid internships (on-the-job training) with local employers are set up for those clients who meet the eligibility requirements. 14 7

HIV/AIDS Aids/HIV Services Group (ASG) Tenth Street NE, Charlottesville ASG s client services program provides a lifeline to people living with HIV, or, those whose life style may have exposed them to risk. Case management is provided according to federal and state standards of care. Clients have access to a food pantry, support groups, volunteer work and social opportunities, skillsbuilding classes, housing assistance, and prevention programs.
