Here in Sarasota, he is most known for his ceiling paintings in Ca d Zan. SAT, APR 21, 10:30 AM 250 YEARS OF THE MODERN CIRCUS Dr. Vanessa Toulmin, Curator of Engagement and Director of the National Fairground Archive at Sheffield University, U.K., will offer a global outlook on the development of circus culture in Europe and America over the last 250 years. Though the origins of the circus can be traced back thousands of years, the modern circus, defined by a ring and a horse, dates from 1768 when Philip Astley, a retired cavalryman, showcased feats of horsemanship in his riding school in London. Facilitated stations engaging different age levels will be placed throughout the Circus Museum for you to explore at your own leisure. CA D ZAN CLOSED APR 9 13 We are thrilled to welcome PBS s Antiques Roadshow to The Ringling. In order to accommodate the filming, Ca d Zan will be closed Monday, April 9 through Friday, April 13. In addition, Ca d Zan parking and Ca d Zan Terrace, will be closed Tuesday, April 10 through Friday, April 13.

Each program includes a talk and discussion followed by a walking tour tailored to the topic. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. SAT, APR 7, 9:30 AM NOON OUTDOOR SPACES / OUTDOOR PLACES Almost every home in Florida has outdoor space, but landscaping these areas can sometimes be a challenge. The Ringling has several spaces throughout the estate that demonstrate different solutions for different places. BAYFRONT GARDENS TOURS BAYFRONT GARDENS $15 / $10 for Members Tickets are limited and must be purchased in advance. This one mile, 90-minute walking tour will introduce you to key botanical specimens at The Ringling and provide an overview of the development of the property. Wear comfortable footwear and clothing. If tours are canceled due to weather, a refund or rain check will be available. FRIDAYS & SATURDAYS (THROUGH APR 28), 10:30 AM WORLD CIRCUS DAY SAT, APR 21 Celebrate Circus at The Ringling with entertainment and education for children of all ages: Free admission to the Circus Museum Free activities in the Education Center Art Making 1:00 4:00 pm Art-making activities that relate to the circus. ROAR! 10:30 am Book reading of Circus Girl with author Clare Pernice, followed by an art-making activity inspired by the characters in the book. FAMILY FIRST SATURDAY APR 7 ART MAKING 10:00 AM 3:00 PM Free program This art-making program relates an art project to a work of art in the museum. Recommended for all ages. STROLLER TOUR APR 24 10:00 AM $2, ticket required Parents or caregivers visiting the museum with an infant will enjoy this one-hour tour that allows for adult discussion within a group that does not mind if a chatty or crying baby joins the conversation.
