Help Musicians UK and a host of experts discuss the ways artists can successfully juggle their creativity, bring in an income and look after their physical and mental well-being at the same time. 2 HMUK Room (North Vaults 4) 11:00-11:55: Abi Wade - performance & finding funding interview Abi Wade joins HMUK to discuss the funding she received through the charity s Emerging Excellence Award and what it s meant for her career. She ll also perform her limbs, strings and vocal chords show accompanied by her trademark cello, taking songs from her latest album, Beautifully Astray. 12:00-13:00: Music Venue Trust Takeover: How we fight for your live music Tom Green and Clara Cullen discuss how the Music Venue Trust helped to change the law for live music venues via the Agent of Change campaign as well as its ongoing Fightback Grassroots Promoter programme a 100,000 intervention aimed at young women who are passionate about live music and want to learn the skills to become an independent promoter. 13:00-14:00: Grace Savage performance & finding funding interview Grace Savage, multi-award-winning electro-pop artist, beatboxer and recipient of HMUK s Emerging Artists funding, performs exclusively and discusses how she utilised her financial grant. Having recently been BBC Radio 1 Introducing Track of The Week and listed as one of ELLE UK s Top 100 inspiring women, she is now set to break into the music industry with her debut album due out in :00-15:00: Music Minds Matter: Where do we go from here? After the HMUK study Can Music Make You Sick found 69% of those surveyed in the music industry had experienced depression, the charity knew more had to be done. So in 2017 it launched a dedicated mental health support service, Music Minds Matter. In this session, HMUK Director of Programme Claire Gevaux is joined by researcher Sally Ann Gross and Dr George Musgrave (aka rapper Context) to discuss the research, progress and next steps for music and mental health. 15:00-15:30: Stuart Sandeman: Breathpod breathing workshop As well as having a professional background in sales and finance, travelling the world as an international DJ, and possessing a black belt in Judo, Stuart Sandeman is also the founder of Breathpod a company that delivers breathing and coaching programmes that help individuals, groups and businesses harness their full potential. In this session, Stuart will explore breath science and share techniques that break negative habits to move into a state of learning, development, self-awareness, growth and flow. 16:00-17:00: Featured Artist Coalition Takeover: What we do, with Dave Rowntree, Roxanne De Bastion & Chief Executive Lucie Caswell In this session, Board Directors David Rowntree (Blur), Roxanne De Bastion & Chief Executive Lucie Caswell will discuss the origin, the work, the community and the direction of The FAC. The FAC is the only organisation that represents entirely featured artists within the music industry. Come along to find out how The FAC can support you. 2

4 Friday 9 November The Cockpit Room : Creating an Inclusive Industry: Taking Action on Equality and Accessibility Despite numerous debates around equality and access, there is still work to be done for those who are employed within the music industry and for the artists who sustain it. Help Musicians UK and a host of experts will seek to find solutions to some of the issues still raised across gender, diversity and accessibility. In this hour, Cat will perform her Beyoncé-and-Beethoven-inspired music and discuss how she used her funding to support production costs and visuals. 11:00-12:00: Electronic Music Minds: How to keep it together in the music industry DJ and presenter Carly Wilford, Jens Kuross, formerly of RY X and The Acid, international DJ Ben Pearce and Roses Gabor discuss struggles such as burnout, social anxiety and loneliness in the music industry. Join the panel as they look at how to readdress balance and talk about the options available before, during and after difficult times. 12:00-13:00: Happy Heads meditation workshop The music business can be stressful to navigate. Kim Murray, founder of Happy Heads, teaches simple mindful techniques that improve the mental, physical and emotional well-being of people of all ages - building confidence, reducing anxiety, depression and increasing focus. Join Kim for a meditation workshop, offering skills that can be taken away and implemented into everyday life. 13:00-14:00: NICOLAH performance & finding funding interview Singer songwriter NICOLAH received financial backing from the 2017 HMUK Transmission Fund the fund which offers up to 1,500 towards professional business career development. She ll be bringing her busking spirit and Joni Mitchell style songwriting with her to BBC Music Introducing Live this year where she ll perform her latest tracks and discuss her funding journey. 4

Joseph s break into the industry was through playing bass in BMG signed band Young Kato while ECKOES own breed of dark electronica has garnered key tastemakers praise including BBC 6Music, Clash Magazine, Q, and the MOBO Awards. 15:30-16:30: MOBO Takeover: Joining the DIY revolution Musicians have more options than ever before when it comes to taking control of their careers; whether they want to be their own manager, producer, agent or label, the tools are available if you know where to find them. 6 Saturday 10 November The Cockpit Room : The Art of Self-Care: Practical ways to maintain your health and welfare Working in the music industry is a mixture of intense highs and lows, both of which take their toll physically and mentally. Help Musicians UK and a panel of experts explore the tools and information that can equip you to listen to your body and be aware of your mental health. Having been one of the first ever recipients of the MOBO Help Musicians Fund, the programme offering up to 2,000 per fundee to help support the creative and career ambitions of emerging talent, Estée will discuss how she tackled the process and what it s done for her career. 11:20-12:00: Sleep Better, work better: A workshop by Tom Middleton, Sound Architect, DJ and sleep specialist Tom Middleton, the electronic music staple whose career began in the 90s with Aphex Twin and Global Communication, has added a new string to his multifaceted bow: fully-trained Sleep Science Coach. His most recent album, Sleep Better, slows heart and breath rate to lower stress and aid pre-sleep relaxation for better sleep quality and duration. In this workshop he explains and demonstrates the benefits of sleep and offers a practical guide, tips and advice. 12:15-13:15: The Musicians Union Takeover: Don t Let the B*st*rds Get You Down The Musicians Union (MU) looks at how collective action can make a difference, as a community of over 30,000 musicians across the UK. From the #metoo movement and the MU s work to combat sexual harassment in the music industry to mental health, fair pay, protecting venues, and making sure musicians can work in the EU post-brexit, we ll explore the big issues and how the MU can help rising artists. 6
