3 (1390 = 100) The Export Price Index (XPI) increased 1.7 percent in following a 3.5 percent decline in Tir The index level of was 14.5 percent lower than in Mordad During the first five months of the current Iranian year, the XPI declined 14.7 percent compared to the similar period in The XPI has fallen 4.7 percent over the past twelve months. In Mordad, the animal products group index went up 0.4 percent. The group index for vegetable products rose 1.5 percent. Increases in the prices for pistachio, raisin, date and saffron were the major reasons for this advance. The animal or vegetable fats and oils group index moved up 2.0 percent over this month. Increases in the prices for "biscuit and wafer", ice cream and cake caused 1.3 percent advance in the prepared foodstuffs, beverages and tobacco group index, while the decline in the price for tomato paste was also considerable. The mineral products group index rose 3.7 percent. Higher prices for propane, cement, copper concentrate and engine oils were the main factors for the mentioned advance. In this month, the price for bitumen declined. During Mordad, the products of the chemical or allied industries group index went down 0.1 percent. The index is computed on the Iranian Rial basis. In this month, the exchange rates of Dollar and Euro increased 2.0 percent and 1.2 percent, respectively. 1

4 As a result of rising in the prices for low density polyethylene, plastic hoses, high density polyethylene and melamine dishes, the group index for plastics and articles thereof, rubber and articles thereof increased 3.9 percent. In this group, the price for polyethylene terephthalate decreased. The skins and leather and articles thereof group index and the wood and articles of wood group index moved up 2.0 percent and 2.7 percent, respectively. The 1.8 percent advance in the textiles and textile articles group index was particularly due to the rise in the price for hand-woven carpet. The group index for footwear moved up 1.5 percent over this month. Increases in the prices for float glass and "tile and ceramic" caused 3.1 percent rise in the articles of stone group index. The group index for base metals and articles of base metal went down 1.5 percent, which was principally attributed to the decreases in the prices for aluminium ingot and zinc ingot. In the mentioned group, the prices for cathode copper and hot coil iron increased. The 2.0 percent increase in the machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment group index was mostly due to the advances in the prices for air cooler and cable. During the mentioned month, the group index for vehicles and associated transport equipment fell 3.9 percent. 2
