3 Salisbury Quartet and Friends Wang Liang joined the Hong Kong Philharmonic as a fellow of The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Orchestral Fellowship Scheme in After a year of intensive training, Wang Liang has successfully passed the audition and became a member of the first violin section of the Hong Kong Philharmonic since the 2008/09 season. Born in Liaoning, China in 1985, Wang Liang studied piano at 4 and violin at 5 under the tutelage of his mother, who was the concertmaster of Liaoning Symphony Orchestra. He was admitted to the junior section of the Shenyang Music Conservatory in 1998 and the Central Conservatory of Music, with full scholarship in Quartet). He was appointed as concertmaster in various orchestras, such as the Shenyang Music Conservatory Youth Orchestra, the orchestra of the 1st and 2nd Canton International Summer Music Academy and the orchestra of the opening concert of the 6th Music Festival organized by the Central Conservatory of Music. Besides, he was the First Prize winner of the 1st and 2nd Shenyang Music Conservatory Violin Competition. In March 2007, he participated in the chamber music masterclass by Rainer Kussmaul (former concert master of the Berlin Philharmonic) and Sadao Harada (former cellist of the Tokyo Gui Li has been studying the violin since she was five with her grandfather as her very first violin teacher. She made enormous improvements after a major training at Wuhan Conservatory of Music (Middle School Section) and won the Second Prize at the National Violin Competition in China and the Best Performance of a Chinese Composition for solo violin. She then gained a Bachelor s Degree from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (APA) with a full scholarship and became a Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Orchestral Fellow of the Hong Kong Philharmonic in Gui Li is an active musician both inside and outside school. Besides taking part in different school concerts and solo recitals, she has also joined different local orchestras and participated in various masterclasses by world-renowned violinists and teachers, such as Joseph Silverstein, Charles Castleman, Lin Cho-liang and Kurt Sassmannshaus. Also, she was the recipient of a number of scholarships from the APA, including the Chan Chung-On Violin Performance Merit Award, The Academy Non-Local Scholarship, Duchess of Kent International Scholarship and The Dorset Foundation Weinrebe and Hosier Scholarship. Moreover, she led a quartet to tour Thailand, as representatives of the APA.

4 Ethan Ford Heath, a native of Rochester, Minnesota, U.S.A., began playing the viola at age nine. He graduated from the Interlochen Arts Academy and continued his studies at the Eastman School of Music, The Juilliard School, and the Cleveland Institute of Music. His teachers included John Graham, Samuel Rhodes, Robert Vernon, Heidi Castleman, Masao Kawasaki, and Yizhak Schotten. Mr Heath's performing career began at the age of thirteen when he performed as concerto soloist with orchestra. After coaching with such artists as the Juilliard, Cleveland, Muir, and Colorado Quartets and pianists Samuel Sanders and Anton Nel, he has appeared as chamber musician in venues such as Alice Tully Hall and NYU's Miller Theater in New York City; at many festivals including the Aspen, Sarasota, and Park City Music Festivals; at the Breckenridge Music Festival, where he also performed as concerto soloist with the National Repertory Orchestra; and in venues around Hong Kong. He continues to play chamber music with various colleagues at every opportunity. Mr Heath has worked to increase the repertoire of contemporary Viola music, and successfully commissioned the "Concertpiece for Viola and Piano" from the well-known American composer David Diamond. Mr Heath is an active orchestra musician, having held the position of Assistant Principal Viola in the Akron and Canton Symphonies, and performing with numerous other groups such as the North Carolina Symphony, the New World Symphony, the Ohio Chamber Orchestra, the Asian Friendly Festival Orchestra in Fukuoka, Japan, and the Guangzhou Symphony in China. Since joining the Hong Kong Philharmonic in 1998, he has also been invited to play as Guest Assistant Principal of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta on their 2004 European Tour. Mr. Heath has been teaching regularly since coming to Hong Kong, at various International Schools, ESF schools, independent music academies, and privately, as well as having been an Adjunct Faculty member at Hong Kong Baptist University. His students have received awards of Distinction in many grades of the ABRSM tests; have achieved the levels of ABRSM Diploma, Licentiate, and Fellowship; and have twice won categories of the Hong Kong Schools Music competition, including the Violin Concerto 18- and-under Category. Cellist Timothy Frank joined the Hong Kong Philharmonic in A native of Virginia, he earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Oberlin Conservatory and a Master of Music from Indiana University. Immediately prior to his appointment to the HKPO he won the position of Assistant Principal Cello in the Memphis Symphony. He has performed at Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center with the New York String Orchestra under the late Alexander Schneider, and played in the National Repertory Orchestra of Colorado. He has participated in numerous chamber music festivals including the Juilliard Quartet Seminar, Taos School of Music, Mendelssohn Quartet Seminar and Music at the Gainey Center. As a three-time participant in the Pacific Music Festival, he played concerts throughout Japan, including a special piano quartet concert at Casals Hall, Tokyo for PMF corporate donors. While still a student, Mr Frank played for four years with the Pro Musica Chamber Orchestra of Columbus, Ohio, appointed as the orchestra's youngest member. His main teachers have been Norman Fischer, Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi and Peter Rejto. Timothy Frank plays a contemporary cello made by Gregg Alf in Ann Arbor.

5 British violin player Katrina Rafferty, comes from a family of violinists. At the age of 4 she received her first lessons at home from her father and two years later joined the Huddersfield Primary Youth Orchestra. She led all the youth orchestras in her area, playing in many musicals and chamber music concerts, often collaborating with her mother and brother, also violinists. Katrina continued her studies at the Royal College of Music, London and after graduating joined the Hong Kong Philharmonic under Laureate Conductor David Atherton. She then left to continue her studies at the University of Oklahoma, U.S.A. gaining a Master s degree. There she was member of the Oklahoma Philharmonic, Go for Baroque chamber ensemble and the renowned Santa Fe Opera Orchestra. In 1996 Katrina returned to Hong Kong to teach young students at the Academy for Performing Arts and freelanced as an orchestral member and soloist for the following ten years with a variety of ensembles such as the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, HK Virtuosi, Pure Strings, HK Singers, the Macau Philharmonic, Faust Company and with artists Leon Lai, Jacky Cheung, Alan Tam, Leslie Cheung, Anita Mui, Faye Wong, Kenny G, Sarah Brightman and Olivia Newton John. Amelia Chan is the newly appointed Concertmaster of the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong from the 2014/2015 Season. Prior to this appointment she had held a ten-year tenure as concertmaster of the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra in the USA. An experienced orchestral leader, Amelia Chan has worked under distinguished conductors including Michael Tilson Thomas, Manfred Huss, Sergiu Commissiona, Anton Coppola, Zdeněk Mácal, Jorge Mester, Julius Rudel, and Gerard Schwartz. She has performed with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra extensively, and has collaborated as a chamber musician with members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and the Ying Quartet. Amelia Chan has appeared as soloist with orchestras in the USA including the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra, the International Virtuosi Orchestra, the New Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra and the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra. She was first violinist of the Montclaire String Quartet for ten years and has also performed at the Cooperstown Chamber Music Festival in New York, the Pacific Music Festival in Japan and at the Costa Rica and Guatemala Music Festivals. Her performances have been broadcast on WQXR in New York, WQED in Pittsburgh, West Virginia Public Broadcasting, BBC Radio Scotland and RTHK Radio 4. A native of Hong Kong, Amelia Chan began her music education on the piano with her father John Chan and studied violin at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts as part of the HKAPA's inaugural junior programme. She holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in violin performance from Mannes College The New School for Music, and both a Masters in Music Degree and a Diploma in Professional Studies (Orchestral Programme) from the Manhattan School of Music in New York. Her major teachers include Thomas Wang, Alice Waten, Albert Markov, Shirley Givens, Glenn Dicterow, and double bassist Julius Levine. 6 Alice Rosen has been a member of the Hong Kong Philharmonic since Educated at both The Juilliard School and Eastman School of Music and with a Master's degree from Rice University's Shepherd School of Music, Alice Rosen has participated in numerous international festivals including the Pacific Music Festival, the Chautauqua Institute, the National Orchestral Institute, the American Russian Youth Orchestra, and the Aspen Music Festival, where she was a recipient of a three-year Aspen Fellowship. Ms. Rosen served as Instructor of Viola at The Shepherd School of Music from , and has maintained a successful private studio of violin and viola students in Hong Kong since Richard Bamping has been the Principal Cellist of the HK Phil since He has performed with many of the finest musicians of recent history Lord Yehudi Menuhin, Leonidas Kavakos, Mstislav Rostropovich, Carlo Maria Guilini, Valery Gergiev, Leonard Bernstein, Lorin Maazel, Sir Colin Davis and Claudio Abbado, to name but a few. Bamping has performed many of the staples of the solo cello repertoire with orchestras from Europe to the Far East. He has a great passion for playing chamber music with friends and colleagues whenever he gets the chance. Bamping's cello, dated 1674 was made in Cremona by Andrea Guarneri and is one of only nine surviving examples of his work.
