2 biographies Associate Professor of Violin Helen Kim joined the music faculty in 2006 at Kennesaw State University with a stellar performance background. She made her orchestral debut with the Calgary Philharmonic at the age of six, and has gone on to become a respected and sought-after artist. She has appeared as a soloist with the Boston Pops at Boston s Symphony Hall, as well as with the Milwaukee and Atlanta Symphony Orchestras. Ms. Kim earned her Master s Degree from the Juilliard School, where her teachers included Cho-Liang Lin and Dorothy DeLay. She is the recipient of more than one hundred national and international awards. In 1992, she won the prestigious Artists International Competition in New York and as a result, gave debut recitals at Carnegie Weill Hall and the Aspen Summer Music Festival. A native of Canada, Ms. Kim has been engaged by many of Canada s leading orchestras, including the National Arts Center Orchestra, Montreal Metropolitan Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony, McGill Chamber Orchestra, and the Windsor, Regina, Victoria and Prince George Symphonies. She has also appeared with the Cobb, Georgia Symphony Orchestra, DeKalb, New Orleans, Aspen and Banff Festival Orchestras, and with orchestras in the United Kingdom, Germany and Poland. Ms. Kim has toured extensively throughout Canada and the United States, including performances at Alice Tully Hall and the Sante Fe and La Jolla International Music Festivals where she performed with Cho-Liang Lin, Gary Hoffman, Andre Previn, and the Orion String Quartet. She performed Bach s Double Violin Concerto with Hilary Hahn at the 2002 Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival. Ms. Kim has been profiled on national and international television and has appeared on CBC, PBS and CBS networks. Her performances have been aired on NPR and CBC radio networks. Ms. Kim served as assistant and associate concertmaster for the Atlanta Symphony for three seasons. She is currently the assistant concertmaster of the Atlanta Opera Orchestra. Ms. Kim performs with local new music ensembles, Bent Frequency, Sonic Generator, Thamyris, and recently joined the Atlanta Chamber Players. Artist in Residence in Violin Kenn Wagner has been a first violinist with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra since 1994 and has also served as acting assistant concertmaster of the ASO for one season. Outside of the ASO, he has also appeared abroad as guest soloist with the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra in China and Christ Church Symphony string section in New Zealand. Nationally he has soloed with the New Orleans Symphony, Arlington Symphony and the Wintergreen Music Festival Orchestra. Locally, Kenn has also appeared as soloist with the Atlanta Community

3 Symphony Orchestra, the Dekalb Symphony, Clark/Spellman Symphony, Atlanta Philharmonic, and the Atlanta Musicians' Orchestra. In addition to his solo work and position with the ASO, Mr. Wagner enjoys playing chamber music and performs with groups such as the Riverside Chamber Players, Leaptrott Trio (Trio in residence at Brenau University), Atlanta Chamber Players, Awadagin Pratt s Next Generation Festival and National Chamber Players with special guest Kenneth Slowik of the Smithsonian Chamber Players. This season he also made his debut at Piccolo Spoleto with the Orlando Chamber Soloists and also performed with members of the Grammy Award winning Cuerteto Latino Americano. Mr. Wagner also performed chamber music this summer with former IU faculty member Csaba Erdelyi. Kenn is a graduate of Indiana University where he trained with Joseph Gingold, former Concertmaster of the Cleveland Orchestra. Before completing his undergraduate degree at Indiana University, Mr. Wagner won a position with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, with coaching from Vernon Summers of the National Symphony and former Concertmaster of both Atlanta and National Symphonies, William Steck. Kenn is very pleased and honored to be on faculty at both Kennesaw State University and Morehouse College. Artist in Residence in Viola Catherine Lynn joined the KSU faculty in She is Assistant Principal Viola with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. An active chamber musician, Ms. Lynn plays with the Atlanta Chamber Players and the Kennesaw State University Faculty String Trio. Ms. Lynn has performed as soloist with the KSU and Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestras and is a coach for the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra. Prior to coming to Atlanta, she was Principal Viola of the Flint Symphony Orchestra in Michigan and a member of the Rosseels String Quartet in residence at the University of Michigan. Ms. Lynn received her Bachelor of Music from the University of Alabama under the instruction of Patrick Rafferty and completed her Master of Music and Doctorate of Musical Arts degrees at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where she studied with Yizhak Schotten and Andrew Jennings. During the summer she coaches chamber music at the Icicle Creek Music Festival in Leavenworth, WA, and the local Franklin Pond Chamber Music Festival. Artist in Residence in Viola Allyson Fleck, artist in residence of viola and chamber music director, joined the Kennesaw State University music faculty in Currently, Allyson is a member of the Atlanta Ballet Orchestra and Georgia Symphony Orchestra and substitutes with the Atlanta Symphony and Atlanta Opera. In addition, she

4 is the assistant artist director for Midsummer Music Festival in Door County, Wisconsin, where she also performs viola. Recently, Allyson performed with the Emory Chamber players and Highlands-Cashiers Chamber Festival. Allyson s viola instructors include Sally Chisholm and Manuel Diaz. She received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Viola Performance at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Previously, Allyson was a semi-finalist of the 2002 Fischoff Competition as a member of the Galena Quartet, the graduate quartet in residence at the University of Wisconsin. In Wisconsin, she was a member of the Madison Symphony, Madison Opera and Wisconsin Chamber Orchestras. Ms. Fleck was Assistant Professor of Music at Beloit College and on the faculty at Ripon College. While in Wisconsin she also was a guest performer at the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater, Token Creek Music Festival where she performed with John Harbison, and was a guest artist at the Madeline Island Chamber Music Festival. Performances include a recital at Carnegie s Weill Hall in New York performing Berio s Folk Songs, performing Telemann Concerto in G Major and Hindemith s Trauermusik with the Novgorod String Orchestra in Russia, Bartok s Concerto for Viola with the Ripon College Orchestra. Allyson has performed as soloist with the KSU Symphony Orchestra and the Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra. Artist-in-Residence in Cello Charae Krueger is Principal Cellist for the Atlanta Opera Orchestra and the Atlanta Ballet Orchestra. She is the Cello Artist-In-Residence at Kennesaw State University and performs with the Summit Piano Trio and KSU Faculty String Trio. Ms. Krueger enjoys chamber music and solo recital work and plays throughout the Southeastern US. She is a regular featured artist at The Highlands- Cashiers Chamber Music Festival in North Carolina, the Grand Teton Music Festival in Wyoming and at the North Georgia Chamber Music Festival. Her solo and chamber music recitals have been featured on NPR's Performance Today, WABE Radio Atlanta and WGBH Radio Boston. She also plays frequently with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Krueger also enjoys recording studio work and has played on albums of Bruce Springsteen, Faith Hill and Natalie Cole. Recent concerts include performances with Cleveland Orchestra Concertmaster William Preucil and solo violinist Tim Fain at Highland-Cashiers Chamber Music Festival, performances at the North Georgia Chamber Music Festival, Emory Chamber Music Society of Atlanta with pianist William Ransom, performance with SO Percussion Ensemble, appearances with Sonic Generator, Atlanta Chamber Players and Fringe concert series, as well as solo appearances with the DeKalb Symphony and Atlanta Community Orchestra and the KSU Orchestra. She has twice performed the entire Beethoven cycle of Cello Sonatas with pianist Robert Henry and has performed a recital tour of the Southeastern US with pianist Stanley Yerlow.

5 Ms. Krueger received her early cello training in Canada at the Regina Conservatory of Music. She went on to study at Brandon University and received her Bachelor of Music Performance degree from New England Conservatory in Boston. She also holds an Artist Diploma from the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA. She continued her training during the summers at the Banff Centre in Canada and did quartet training with the Juilliard Quartet at the summer program at the Juilliard School. Ms. Krueger was also a participant in the New York String Orchestra Seminar under the direction of Alexander Schneider with concerts at Carnegie Hall. Cellist with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Brad Ritchie recently completed his 15th season as a cellist with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO). Originally from Portland, OR, he earned his Bachelor of Music at Indiana University where he studied with Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi and Janos Starker. In his senior year, his string quartet won the school's Kuttner Quartet Competition, which provided them with a year of recitals and trips to a number of chamber music competitions from Osaka, Japan, to Evian, France. Following a summer of quartet concerts in Europe, Mr. Ritchie enrolled in the Musikhochschule in Freiburg, Germany and earned his graduate degree studying with Adriana Contino. After completing his studies in Germany, Mr. Ritchie played for two years in the New World Symphony in Miami under Michael Tilson Thomas. In 1997, he became a member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and also joined the Atlanta Chamber Players (ACP). During his 15 years with the ACP, he has made recordings on the CRI, ACA Digital, and MSR labels, and toured extensively, including performances at Carnegie Hall, Boston's Jordan Hall, the American Cathedral in Paris, France, and at the International Chamber Music Festival in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. In addition to his commitments to the ASO and ACP, Brad has played with many other chamber music and new music ensembles in and around Atlanta including Riverside Chamber Players, Thamyris Ensemble, Emory Chamber Players, Franklin Pond Quartet, GLO-ATL and Bent Frequency, as well as annual concerts with faculty at Kennesaw State University and recitals with Robert Henry in Highlands, NC. He is a founding member of the contemporary music ensemble Sonic Generator, currently in its seventh season in residence at Georgia Tech University. Artist-in-Residence in Piano Julie Coucheron has established an international career, winning prizes in Italy, Germany and in the United States. Ms. Coucheron has worked with musicians such as Lazar Berman, Claude Frank, Emanuel Ax, Vladimir Feltsman, John O Connor and Chistopher O Riley and has toured Europe,

6 America, South America and Asia playing in great halls like Verizon Hall, Wigmore Hall, the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall. Born in Oslo, Norway, Ms. Coucheron started playing the piano at the age of four. She earned her Bachelors and Master s Degree with honors from the Royal Academy of Music in London studying with Christopher Elton and Michael Dussek while also gaining her LRAM teaching diploma at the same institution. Ms. Coucheron has performed at festivals such as the Oslo Chamber Music Festival, Bergen International Music Festival and at La Jolla Summer Fest. She is artistic director for the Fjord Cadenza Festival in Norway and a founding member of the Kon Tiki Classical Music Fest in Oslo, Norway. In September 2002, she released her first recording, Debut on the Naxos label, together with her brother David containing lyrical and virtuoso music from the classical repertoire. The response was excellent and it sold more than copies in Norway alone. Ms. Coucheron and her brother David released their second recording, David and Julie on the Mudi/Naxos label in September This recording contains sonatas by Grieg and Brahms and received brilliant reviews worldwide. In 2009, she won first prize at the Pinerelo International Chamber Music Competition in Italy together with her brother. Ms. Coucheron enjoys a close collaboration with the Concertmaster of the Atlanta Symphony, David Coucheron and the principal Cellist, Chris Rex, and together they have formed a trio that performs regularly in various concert halls around the world. Ms. Coucheron is also a member of the Georgian Chamber Players and recently performed the Brahms piano quartet with the ensemble in Spivey Hall in Atlanta. Ms. Coucheron enjoys a various and wide range of styles and repertoire emerging from her highly trained classical background to the more contemporary and popular music. Recent collaborations include performances with artists such as the Steve Miller Band and Elton John.
