4 3 Participation Hello! Main Event has lots of options from which to choose! Please consider that you may only participate in 1 of each of the following Main Categories. 1. Sport Dodgeball (Participate in up to 1 of the following) a. Dodgeball 6v6 2. Sport All Other Sports (Participate in up to 1 of the following) a. Basketball 3v3 (J-league or S-League) b. Soccer 3v3 c. Volleyball 4v4 (J-League or S-League) 3. Activity (Participate in up to 1 of the following) a. Carpetball b. Chess c. Ping Pong 4. Talent Music Solo (Participate in up to 1 of the following) a. Music Solo Vocalist b. Music Solo Instrumental c. Music Solo Vocalist & Instrumental 5. Talent Music Group (Participate in up to 1 of the following) a. Music Instrumental Ensemble (2+) b. Music Praise Band (2+) 6. Talent Performance (Participate in up to 1 of the following) a. Preaching b. Performance Open 7. Talent Art (Participate in up to 1 of the following) a. Drawing b. Graphic Design c. Painting d. Photography e. Videography f. Visual Arts Open 8. Talent Writing (Participate in up to 1 of the following) a. Short Story b. Poetry That is a total of up to 8 different events to participate in! Just be aware there is a potential for scheduled events to overlap!

5 Dodgeball o Who: 6 players on the court / Up to 5 Subs o When: Friday night after the service o There will be 6 balls on the court and a 2 minute time limit. Once you pick up a ball, you have 10 seconds to throw it to the other side. o Eliminate Players By o Hitting an opposing player with a LIVE ball thrown on or below the shoulders o Catching a LIVE ball thrown by your opponent o Hitting an opposing player s ball out of their hand with a LIVE ball o Stepping over the center line o Save yourself or another player by catching a LIVE ball that has hit you or your teammate (thrower not out). o Restore a player by catching a LIVE ball thrown by your opponent. o Win by eliminating all of the others team s players or having more players than the other team when time runs out.

6 1 Basketball o Who: 3 players on the court / Up to 2 Subs o When: Possibly Friday Night / All Day Saturday o Time limit and tournament structure TBD o Games will be played half-court o Possessions begin by checking-in the ball up top and with a pass o Shot Clock is 20 seconds o There is a running game clock (This might be adjusted for the Final game) o Most other standard basketball rules apply

7 2 Soccer o Who: 3 players on the field / Up to 2 Subs o When: Saturday o Time limit and tournament structure TBD. o There are no goalies o Unlimited substitutions on any out of bounds or set piece situations o Most other standard soccer rules apply.

8 3 Volleyball o Who: 6 players on the court / Up to 5 Subs o When: Saturday o Time limit and tournament structure TBD. o Rally scoring o Your subs may or may not be a part of your rotation, but you cannot change how you rotate in the middle of a game. o There is only one Volleyball league this year containing all 7 th -12 th grade students o Most other regular volleyball rules apply

9 4 Carpetball o Who: 1 versus 1 o When: Friday Night and/or Saturday o Time limit and tournament structure TBD. o Each Player arranges their 5 balls on their half of the carpet. o Players take turns throwing the cue ball (white) attempting to knock the other player s ball into the pocket. Once a player s ball have been eliminated, they have one more throw to knock all the remaining opponent s balls into the pocket with only one throw. o If they are successful, then each player will place one ball back on the carpet and play a sudden death. The above rule applies to sudden death. If both players balls are eliminated, then they will place two balls the next time, then three, all the way up to 5. o If sudden death reaches 5 balls, the first player to eliminate the other player s balls wins. o If a ball bounces off the back and remains in play, it stays in play. o If a player throws or causes any ball to leave the carpeted area of player, that player immediately loses.

10 5 Chess o Who: 1 versus 1 o When: Friday Night and/or Saturday o Time limit and tournament structure TBD. o There will be a chess clock; if your time runs out, the other player wins. o All general chess rules apply.

11 6 Ping Pong o Who: 1 versus 1 o When: Friday Night and/or Saturday o Time limit and tournament structure TBD. o Rally scoring and first to 11 points (switch sides at 6 points) o Switch serve every 3 serves. Serve must hit server s side first and must go off the back end (not the edges) of your opponent s side. o If it is game point, then the player with less points serves until they lose or reach a higher score than their opponent. o You cannot lose on a serve unless you do it twice in a row. o Most other regular Ping Pong rules apply.

12 7 Preaching o Preaching is done as an individual. o You are to prepare a 10 to 15 minute sermon. o You may use any Scripture that you would like as a foundation of your message. o Please submit a detailed outline or a written version of your sermon at time of check-in. o If you prepare a PowerPoint, please provide a printed document of the slides. There may or may not be the option of displaying your PowerPoint. o You are encouraged to find a pastor to help you work through the process and provide feedback before your final presentation at Main Event. o You will preach in front of a panel of Evaluators who will provide you with constructive feedback. o The Evaluators will select one student from the preaching category as this year s winner of the Preaching Category.

13 8 Performance Arts Open o Performance Arts Open is done as an individual or group o You may submit one entry for the Performance Arts Open Category o This category includes those Performance Arts that do not have their own category including monologue, drama, dance, etc. o An Evaluator will provide written constructive feedback. o The Evaluators will select one student in the Performance Arts Open Category as this year s winner of the Performance Arts Open Category.

14 9 Music Solo (Vocalist and/or Instrumental) o Music Solo is done as an individual o You may submit one entry for the Music Solo Category You will have a 5 minute time limit. o Please bring an mp3 player (ipods/iphones included) with your accompanying music (if you have any) with you to your scheduled time slot. You must make sure that it will not lock when it is handed over to the tech/sound people. o Please bring sheet music with you for the Evaluators to have during your performance. o Multiple Evaluators will provide written constructive feedback. o The Evaluators will select one student from the Music Solo Vocalist Category, Music Solo Instrumentalist Category, and the Music Solo Vocalist and Instrumental Category as this year s winner of the three different Music Solo Categories.

15 10 Music Instrumental Ensemble o Music Ensemble is done as a group of 2 or more. You may submit one entry for the Music Instrumental Ensemble Category o You will have a 5 minute time limit. o This may be any combination of various or similar instruments o Please bring an mp3 player (ipods/iphones included) with your accompanying music (if you have any) with you to your scheduled time slot. You must make sure that it will not lock when it is handed over to the tech/sound people. o Please bring sheet music (if you have any) with you for the Evaluators to have during your performance. o The Music Instrumental Ensemble Category differs from the Music Praise Band Category with their intention. Praise Bands main goal is a worshipful environment, whereas Instrumental Ensemble is pure performance. o An Evaluator will provide written constructive feedback. o The Evaluators will select one group of students from the Music Instrumental Ensemble Category as this year s winner of the Music Instrumental Ensemble Category.

16 11 Music Praise Band o Music Praise Band is done as a group of 2 or more. o You may submit one entry for the Music Praise Band Category. o You will have a 5 minute time limit. o Please bring an mp3 player (ipods/iphones included) with your accompanying music (if you have any) with you to your scheduled time slot. You must make sure that it will not lock when it is handed over to the tech/sound people. o The Music Praise Band Category differs from the Music Instrumental Ensemble Category with their intention. Praise Bands main goal is a worshipful environment, whereas Ensemble is pure performance. o An Evaluator will provide written constructive feedback. o The Evaluators will select one group of students from the Music Praise Band winner of the Music Praise Band Category.

17 12 Drawing o Drawing is done as an individual. o You may submit one entry for the Drawing Category. o You may submit up to 250 written words providing context for your submission on a separate piece of paper. o Please submit your Drawing and the optional 250 words at time of check-in. o All submissions must be able to display on a table. o An Evaluator will provide written constructive feedback. o The Evaluators will select one student from the Drawing Category as this year s winner of the Drawing Category.

18 13 Graphic Design o Graphic Design is done as an individual. o You may submit one entry for the Graphic Design Category. o You may submit up to 250 written words providing context for your submissions on a separate piece of paper. o Please submit your Graphic Design and the optional 250 words at time of check-in. o All submissions must be printed and able to display on a table. o An Evaluator will provide written constructive feedback. o The Evaluators will select one student from the Graphic Design Categories as this year s winner of the Graphic Design Category

19 14 Painting o Painting is done as an individual. o You may submit one entry for the Painting Category. o You may submit up to 250 written words providing context for your submission on a separate piece of paper. o Please submit your Painting and the optional 250 words at time of check-in. o All submissions must be able to display on a table. o An Evaluator will provide written constructive feedback. o The Evaluators will select one student from the Painting Category as this year s winner of the Painting Category.

20 15 Photography o Photography is done as an individual. o You may submit one entry for the Photography Category. You may submit up to 250 written words providing context o for your submission on a separate piece of paper. o Please submit your Photography and the optional 250 words at time of check-in. o All submissions must be able to display on a table. o An Evaluator will provide written constructive feedback. o The Evaluators will select one student from the Photography Category as this year s winner of the Photography Category.

21 16 Videography o Videography is done as a group or an individual. o You may submit one entry for the Videography Category. You may submit up to 250 written words providing context for your submission on a separate piece of paper. o Entries may be no longer than 15 minutes. o All Videography submissions must be uploaded to YouTube. Please submit your YouTube link and the optional 250 words at time of check-in. o An Evaluator will provide written constructive feedback. o The Evaluators will select one student or group of students from the Videography Category as this year s winner of the Videography Category.

22 17 Visual Arts Open o Visual Arts Open is done as an individual. o You may submit one entry for the Visual Arts Open Category o This category includes those Visual Arts that do not have their own category including sculpting, duct tape art, etc. o An Evaluator will provide written constructive feedback. o The Evaluators will select one student in the Visual Arts Open Category as this year s winner of the Visual Arts Open Category.

23 18 Writing Short Story o Writing Short Story is done as an individual. o You may submit only one entry for the Writing Short Story Category. o Your entry may be no longer than 1,000 words o Provide a word count at the bottom of the last page. o Bring a printed copy of your entry to registration. o An Evaluator will provide written constructive feedback. o The Evaluators will select one student as this year s winner of the Writing Short Story Category.

24 19 Writing Poetry o Writing Poetry is done as an individual. o You may submit only one entry for the Writing Poetry Category. o Your entry may be no longer than 200 words o Provide a word count at the bottom of your last page. o Bring a printed copy of your entry to registration. o An Evaluator will provide written constructive feedback. o The Evaluators will select one student as this year s winner of the Writing Poetry Category.
