2 Page 2 President s Message It s hard to believe that the summer has come and gone so quickly, but once again, the new school year is upon us. As you know, I have advocated changing our yearbook to an online-only format, and this year that has become a reality. Members will go to our website, nvmta.org, for all contact information pertaining to NVMTA and we can now efficiently update member contact information regularly. While every effort has been made to ensure accuracy, there are bound to be errors. You may contact me at litzelman@comcast.net for corrections to your contact information. As we begin the new school year, perhaps you can make a new year s resolution to attend a few of our monthly meetings this year. Remember that NVMTA is your organization and attending meetings is a way to make your voice heard. I hope that the summer has been a restful and enjoyable time for you and I wish each of you great success with your teaching this year. NVMTA affords many opportunities for our students and I hope that you will participate in as many of the events as possible. Warm regards to all of you, Jim Litzelman, President Fall Festival Now is the time to begin choosing repertoire for Fall Festival, which will be held on Saturday, November 6 at Cherrydale Methodist Church. Fall Festival is a non-competitive event in which students at any level play two pieces, one traditional classical and the other contemporary classical. The contemporary selection must include at least one recognized contemporary idiom or device. For ideas about repertoire and contemporary idioms please visit Fall Festival Event Description and Collection of Contemporary Literature. In past years singers, woodwind and string players have participated and we welcome them again. For further information please contact co-chairs Douglas Harrington at , djh@radix.net and Virginia Moore, , moorepianostudio@gmail.com.

We are grateful to the GMU School of Music and to Professor Dr. Linda Monson for supporting this event. All students performed on a Steinway grand piano in a quiet, sound-proofed studio. The Honors Recital at the Harris Theater included 37 outstanding students selected from all Sonata Festival players. They represented the studios of Arda Andonia, Marina Alekseyeva, Silva Blazquez, Nancy Breth, Hui-Chen Chang, Yelena Gurevich, Hong Joo Lee, Marjorie Lee, Olga Robert, Jun Yang, and Irina Yurkovskaya. Many thanks to all who served as judges, monitors and auditors, to Itzel Hatmill for serving the delicious lunch, Lai-Lan Ko for distributing trophies and especially to assistant chair Pauline Pompei, who will be the new chair next year.
