3 Welcome to COPA Campus of Performing Arts (COPA) was founded in 2003 and is a contemporary music college with campuses in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town and Durban. Our courses are taught by trained facilitators who are music industry specialists as well as professional musicians, giving our students one of the most rounded and intensive practical programmes currently available anywhere in the world. COPA offers full-time courses in: Music Performance (instruments: Bass, Drums, Guitar, Keyboard, Vocals), Music Production (including Sound Technology,Sound Engineering and Game Audio Design), Music Business and Performing Arts. COPA also offers a short course in Lighting, and recently added short courses in Game Development to its offering, with a full-time qualification in this field on the horizon. Students are not only trained in their chosen elective, but also in modules such as Music Business and Stage Presence to ensure that they are well prepared for a successful career in the music industry. Each campus boasts fit-for-purpose facilities with a recording studio, a technology centre, a performance venue and practice facilities for use by its students. Campus of Performing Arts (PTY) Ltd is provisionally registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training as a private higher education institution under the Higher Education Act, 1997 until 31 December Registration certificate No.2011/HE07/004. Full accreditation by the CATHSSETA also allows COPA to train previously disadvantaged individuals in learnerships, bursaries, and internships (as and when Government SETA Funding permits), with courses found on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). 3

This approach allows us to deliver a relevant up-to-date education, essential in an industry which is constantly changing and evolving. Darlington Chikwewo COPA Student COPA PTA student Darlington Chikwewo had his single published in the Netherlands in He was subsequently invited to be a participant of Coke Studio SA in 2016, where he was a producer for top artists Aewon Wolf and Jade McDonald whose song is played on 5fm and other radio stations. According to the producers of Coke Studio, Darlington was one of the most outstanding producers for last year s season and they also loved his work ethic and have invited him to work with them this year. However, Darlington has been using a Windows powered PC, but he will be required to used Apple Software hence the request for him to learn in-house. He has worked with Coke Studio in Kenya on this year s Coke Studio African session. Darlington is currently in Kenya for Coke Studio Africa Meanwhile back in SA, his song Be My Girl with a guitarist called Sylent Nqo is now on Algoa Top 30 Charts. He is going to perform at TreadFestSA in December alongside Gangs of Ballet, Mathew Mole, Sketchy Bongo, Francois Van Coke, Monark, Majozi, Locnville, Goodluck, Pit Fat, Chunda Munki, December Streets, The Kiffness, Ryki, Graeme Watkin Project, Yannick Meyer, The Sweet Resistance, Opposite The Other. He was also featured in The Rekord (Pretoria) newspaper a few weeks ago. 8

Amy recently did a masterclass at COPA CPT sharing her industry experience with the aspiring artists. He also released his music video entitled Gassed Up. The facilities are fit-for-purpose with careful attention given to each room to ensure spaces are funtional, relevent to the industry and inspirational places to learn, play and hone your craft. 12 Johannesburg COPA s Johannesburg campus is the largest of all campuses. Facilities include a resource centre, rehearsal rooms, demo rooms (production suites), an Apple Mac equipped technology room, recording studio and a Live Performance Venue. Pretoria COPA s Pretoria campus is very centrally located. Facilities include a resource centre, rehearsal rooms, demo rooms (production suites), a recording studio also hosting an Apple Mac equipped technology room and a Live Performance Venue. Cape Town COPA s Cape Town campus facilities include rehearsal rooms, a demo room (production suite), a resource centre and a recording studio also hosting an Apple Mac equipped technology room. Durban COPA s Durban campus is located near the Moses Mabhida Stadium. Facilities include a resource centre, rehearsal rooms, a demo room (production suite), a recording studio and a Live Performance Venue. 12

15 Student Representative Council Each campus has a Student Representative Council (SRC) where the goal is to not only give students a voice, but to encourage them to take ownership of their lives and their careers. The SRC organises regular student gigs on and off campus as well as other initiatives to improve the student experience. The SRC annually heads up the COPA Gives Back Project where we get involved in our communities to help make a difference. The SRC is elected by their peers and work closely with the Head of Faculty. 15

17 Music Performance COPA s performance school comprises of 5 disciplines: Bass, Drums, Guitar, Keyboard and Vocals. Students will select one discipline which will be their specialisation for the duration of study. Where the timetable allows students will be allowed to study more than one instrument simultaneously at a Further Education and Training level. COPA currently has four campuses around South Africa. 17
18 Music Performance: Bridging Course The entry course for Music Performance is a one-year bridging course. Entry into this course is subject to passing an audition.
