10 GENERAL INFORMATION Alcohol see house rules Announcement before, during or after a rehearsal: this is a chance for us to give you additional or changed information. Please also check the blackboard. Bar in Stuttgart in the Hospitalhof Foyer: drinks and snacks at moderate prices chance to dance, meet and chat with friends; open: in the evening after most concerts / details: see blackboard Be on time Being on time is already too late... Please be in your class / rehearsal or on stage at least 10 minutes prior to the beginning. Take care that you do not miss bus or train departures. Since we are a group of 100 people things take their time (i.e. check in/out of hotels, luggage loading, boarding busses and trains.) Blackboard is situated in Härlen in the Foyer Aula College, in front of our Festival Office Room 7 in the Stuttgart Liederhalle Foyer Hegelsaal with up to date information. Please see: announcement Cell phone please turn it off during rehearsals and meals Cleaning toilets are cleaned daily, communal rooms twice a in Überlingen week. Please make your own bed and keep the floors in the toilets and bedrooms as well as the sinks clear Computer in computer rooms in Härlen and Spetzgart there are in Überlingen a number of computers, a printer and internet access for all FES members. You can read and send your personal s. in Stuttgart there will be internet terminals in the Liederhalle which you can use free of charge Concert dress Lecture concerts / Chamber concerts ladies: black trousers or skirt and black shirt or top gentlemen: black trousers with black shirt ladies: gentlemen: Concerts all in black, long (!) dress / black skirt & shirt/top etc. covering as much skin as possible! black suit with white shirt and tie or bowtie... and all this with black socks and shoes for both ladies and gentlemen!!... 10

11 GENERAL INFORMATION Concert tickets Stuttgart In Stuttgart you can go to all concerts in the European Music Festival for the special price of Euro 2 per concert. You can buy one ticket per concert for personal use at this price (as long as tickets are available and always at the discretion of the box office). A list will go up in the Box Office in the Foyer of the Hegel Saal in Stuttgart the day before each concert. For admission you need to present both, your ticket and your name badge. When you are performing you can buy one ticket for a special price of Euro 8 for a friend or family member (as long as tickets are available!). Daily allowance You will receive 100 on your arrival for the whole period in Überlingen. You will receive a further payment in Stuttgart ( 145) Details please see daily schedule. Empty bottles We offer as much free mineral water as you need for everybody! But please, please empty the bottles and return them to the crates don t leave them half empty in class rooms, bed rooms and outside. Otherwise we will have to restrict the number of bottles per person/day. Empty bottles can be refilled please use water dispensers in Spetzgart and Härlen. Festival office You can find us in College Härlen, room 7. Our office is open daily 9:00 13:30 & 15:30 21:30. Hotel addresses Stuttgart: see August 24 and Mainz: August 30 House rules alcohol: consumption of beer and wine is tolerated as long as this does not affect your health, your ability to rehearse nor disrupts the life of others. Those unable to control their alcohol consumption on repeated occasions will be excluded from the Festivalensemble and sent home. smoking: is strictly prohibited in all rooms. Most rooms are equipped with highly sensitive smoke alarms do not sent them off! You are free to smoke outside but do not drop your cigarette-ends all over the place. Attention: outside there is always a risk of wood fires during summer! There is also a total smoking ban on all bus transfers and train rides. 11

12 GENERAL INFORMATION House rules Instrument storage room Kiosk Language Laundry Meals in Überlingen partying: do not disturb those who might want to sleep and do not spoil your good condition for the next day. Generally singing, dancing etc. has to be over by 22:00. No mid-night serenades and opera nights around and in front of Spetzgart Castle!!! in Überlingen: tba in Stuttgart: LH Beethovensaal back stage area The Kiosk is situated at the entrance to the Aula in Härlen. Opening times tba. Sells snacks & drinks and distributes free washing machine tokens and powder. Open around dinner time. English (announcements and messages). In case of problems please ask! on Campus you can use the washing machines and driers free of charge. Tokens and washing powder are available for free from the Kiosk (19:00 21:00 daily). We will give you a list of laundromats in Stuttgart. Überlingen full board and lodging: if not particularly mentioned in the schedule these are the times: 08:15 09:00 breakfast 11:00 11:15 break - coffee, water, fruit 13:00-14:15 lunch 16:00 16:15 afternoon coffee break 19:30 20:30 dinner Times can vary occassionally. For details please check the daily schedule. Meals in Überlingen The ensemble will be split up in two groups please respect this and help avoid long waiting times! Details in the daily schedule. Self service please return dishes after use. Mineral water is available in the foyer of the Aula Härlen and in front of the Neue Turnhalle Spetzgart. Whenever possible please make use of the water dispensers to refill your empty bottles. 12

Sometimes we will have snacks backstage between rehearsals and concerts. it is your responsibility to bring your music to rehearsals and concerts. Please leave parts/scores on the stage after the last concert. needless to say includes staff and all other people, of course! we will give everybody a name badge showing name, nationality and instrument/voice. Getting to know one another will be easier. The name badge identifies you as member of the ensemble. You will need it to obtain concert tickets and admission to the master class in Stuttgart. There will be open air movie nights; details will be published on the blackboard. see: daily allowance Our final concert will be broadcast live on HR, Hessischer Rundfunk. Your friends can listen to the concert via web radio at: Reh. rooms please see page 15 Rotation Security in Überlingen Backstage security during all rehearsals string sections will rotate their positions. The final position of every player in the orchestra will be assigned by the instrumental teachers. You will receive keys to lock your wardrobe and your room. You are expected to strictly respect privacy and belongings of your fellow musicians. Stealing will lead to immediate exclusion from the Festivalensemble. Please do not leave your valuables unattended anywhere!!! We can not accept responsibility for lost or stolen articles. Use lockers wherever possible. 13

14 GENERAL INFORMATION Sight seeing please contact the Festival Office for questions Sleep it s really bad to party all night and next day turn up late or miss rehearsals Smoking see house rules - Telephone works with a prepaid telephone card (which you can (public) buy everywhere) or coins. Pick up receiver, insert card or money, dial number. You can make international calls from all telephones. In Härlen and Spetzgart you can find telephone boxes in the entrance areas of all major buildings. Tent There will be a tent in the car park at Spetzgart Castle. It can be used for evening meetings, having a drink and celebrating, for movie shows and to enjoy the good life. But please always respect other people s need for sleep! The breakfast terrace of Spetzgart Castle is NOT available in the evening - thank you! 14
