7 About The New England Symphonic Ensemble: With performances simply described as flawless (the Rhodes Magazine), the New England Symphonic Ensemble (NESE), under the artistic direction of Dr. Preston Hawes, is among the most frequently featured organizations in Carnegie Hall, NY. Since its inception in 1989 the NESE has drawn global critical acclaim in hundreds of concerts on the world s most prestigious stages. In collaboration with MidAmerica Productions, the NESE is led by a striking roster of guest conductors, including John Rutter, Sherrill Milnes, Peter Tiboris, Helmuth Rilling, Simon Carrington, and Jonathan Willcocks, and regularly hosts world-class guest soloists, such as Orrett Rhoden, piano; Eilana Lappalainen, soprano; Edyta Kulczak, Mezzo-soprano; Giovanni Battista Palmieri, tenor; and the Elysium String Quartet, among many others. On the forefront of current trends, the NESE world premieres include Dinos Constantinides' Byron's Greece, Hymn to the Human Spirit, and Midnight Fantasy II for wind ensemble; John Rutter's Cantate Domino, Distant Land, Magnificat, and Mass of the Children; and John Leavitt's A Christmas Garland. The NESE can be heard on the Naxos label in an award-winning recording of Spirituals with internationally renowned mezzo-soprano, the late Barbara Smith Conrad. About Preston Hawes: Hailed by the European Academy of Arts and Sciences as an electrifying and virtuosic performer with exquisite taste and rare talent, Canadian violinist, Preston Hawes is a laureate of the Concours de Musique Du Canada, the Andrews International Music Competitions, the Prix de Musique de Chambre à Fontainebleau, and recipient of the JC Van Hulsteyn award and Peabody Career Grant. He has been heard in notable venues as a soloist in over 35 countries, and is recognized through as both a director and clinician. Having earned a Masters of Music degree and the coveted Artist Diploma at Yale University, Hawes completed the Doctorate of Musical Arts from Peabody Institute of Music, authoring a dissertation entitled "The Programmatic and Biographical Nature of Leonard Bernstein's Serenade, after Plato: Symposium". Dr. Hawes is assistant professor of music and director of strings at Washington Adventist University in Takoma Park, MD and is artistic director of the New England Symphonic Ensemble. Tour commences with a 20-minutes bi-cable ride along the 5.7 km ropeway till your reach the Ngong Ping Village. You may visit this replica of traditional Chinese shopping street, and see the Giant Bronze Buddha, which is 34 m in height, and near the Po Lin Monastery. 12 Day 10 Sunday, May 26, 2019: Beijing Breakfast 8:30 AM: Seventh Tour: tour to the Great Wall of China at Juyong section, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It is an amazing manmade structure built over 2000 years ago to protect China from northern invaders. On the way you will also visit the largest jade carving factory for a workshop of Chinese jade culture. Lunch will be offered during the tour which is part of the package. Entrance fee, bus, English-speaking licensed guide, and hearing devices are all included. The Great Wall of China( 中国长城 ) Chinese Jade Carving ( 中国玉器 ) Private bus transfer back to the hotel. 13 Residency Costs and Payment Schedule: Total land package cost is 2595 USD per person, based on double occupancy. This includes described events, accommodations, transfers, gratuity, and taxes described in the day to day itinerary and specifically itemized on the inclusions page. This price includes the airfare from Macao to Beijing (day 8), but it does not include airfare from US to Hong Kong and Beijing back to US. (From NYC to Hong Kong and return from Beijing, depends on when you book the flight, the international flight should be expected to be $900 - $1600.) The visa process application cost to enter Beijing on Day 8 is in additional to the land package cost of $2595 USD. This visa application can be gotten by the individual choirs or you can do it through MIDAM office as MIDAM will be engaging a special out-side office in NYC who specializes in procuring visa documents to enter mainland China. It takes 5-6 weeks to get such a visa. One does NOT need a visa to enter Hong Kong or Macao. Please see the page 15 in this document for details and cost. Single occupancy is $1675 per person additional. ($4270 USD per person in total.) Note that single rooms are possible but limited. Triple rooms are occasionally available and the cost per person is the same as double room occupancy, $2595 USD per person. Spouses, friends, and families are welcome to be part of the residency. The package described here applies to them as well. COMPLIMENTARY PACKAGES FOR EARLY DEPOSITS The initial per-person deadline for registration for this residency is November 15, A free land package (based on double occupancy) is provided for every thirty persons who register by November 15, 2018 (30 registrations then #31 is free; registrations of 32 to 61 then #62 is free; registrations 63 to 92 then #93 is free, etc). The initial per-person first payment on the package is $400 per-person (see below). An additional free bonus land package (based on double occupancy) is provided for every 30 registrants if the initial per-person registration occurs by June 1, For example, if you register with 30 paid persons by November 15, 2018 you receive 1 complimentary land package free (30+1). However, if those 30 persons would register by June 1, 2018 an early registration bonus occurs with an additional complimentary land package, so, it is or 32 total. This bonus only applies to registrations which occur by this early deposit date of June 1, If you should later add an additional 30 persons by November 15, 2018 then only 1 additional complimentary land package occurs which, in this case, would be 3 bonus packages: Note: If the conductor is a "guest conductor", with a chorus of minimum 60, his free package does not count in the above calculation. The number of participants is a combination of performers and non-performers all taking the residency package. 16 VISA APPLICATION PARTICULARS AND FEES THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION If you are a US citizen, a visa is required to enter mainland China with your arrival at Beijing on Day 8. There are two ways to procure this application: OPTION 1: The choir, through its director or choir representative, can do this on-their-own. The choir/individuals can pay Chinese Consulate directly and the application fee is $140 per visa per person. Please note there are only 6 Chinese Embassy /Consulates in the United States (Washington D.C., New York, NY, Chicago, IL, San Francisco, CA, Los Angeles, CA, Houston, TX.) Representatives of the choir must submit the application to the closest Consulate and make a personal appearance in the Consulate for an interview. OPTION 2: This same process can be done through MIDAM office. Upon your request, we will be able to engage a visa processing company to handle your applications and the cost will be $250 to $300 per visa application per person. This cost includes $140 application fee and the processing fee to Chinese Consulate. In this case, no trip to the Chinese Consulate is necessary, and the responsibility will be the visa processing company. Whichever option you choose the process requires: 1. A signed and completed visa application form 2. Two passport photos 3. Signed and valid passport 4. Proof of arrival and departure which means a round-trip flight ticket (US to China and back) must be purchased before the application interview. The latest visa application must be submitted before February 1, 2019 with all documents.
