8 EVENTS Easter at the Ethnographic Open-Air Museum EASTER AT THE ETHNOGRAPHIC OPEN-AIR MUSEUM , , 10:00-16:00 On Easter morning, everyone must get up early so that they feel alert and happy throughout the year. Easter celebrations at the museum represent the intertwining of folklore with modern and Christian traditions. The day will begin with a service at the Usma Church and continue with dying eggs and swinging on swings. This day is full of songs, games, customs and "driving away of birds" under the guidance of folklore groups. At the Priedes Pub gourmands will be delighted by the variety of traditional dishes, but those interested in local crafts will be able to visit the arts and crafts fair. Latvian Ethnographic Open-air Museum EASTER EVENTS AND CONCERTS IN RIGA During the Easter holidays, spiritual music concerts are held in Riga's churches, concert halls and cultural centers, as well as traditional Easter events are organized, where residents and guests can celebrate the holidays observing traditional Latvian traditions swinging, painting eggs, egg tapping and more. Riga, SWING FESTIVAL LATVIA SWINGING IN SIGULDA Over 100 different types of swings and constructions, of different sizes, set-up in Sigulda's urban environment and its nature trails. There will be thematic swings set-up by local residents, institutions and organizations, including a special swing honoring Latvia's centenary anniversary. Sigulda, EXHIBITION DIOR , 11:00-18:00 The exhibition is dedicated to the history of the Christian Dior fashion house, as well as the 70th anniversary of Dior's first collection. The exhibition will feature several dozen outfits, as well as elegant accessories from the collection of the well-known fashion historian Alexandre Vassiliev, allowing visitors to follow along fashion trends from the second half of the 20th century created by Dior, as well as his successors (Ives Saint Laurent, Marck Bohan, Gianfranco Ferre etc) and colleagues. 9 APRIL 2018 Easter event at Ziemeļblāzma Easter Came a Singing INTERACTIVE EXHIBITION FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY FUTURE LIVE! , 11:00-21:00 (VI, VII), 13:00-20:00 (I-IV), 13:00-21:00 (V) Giant video projections, virtual reality, a colorful book that comes to life, and the opportunity to travel in space the exhibition Future Live! (in Latvian Nākotne tagad) is an amazing technological adventure for the whole family. The exhibition combines the most advanced interactive technologies in the area of art objects and installations, where it will be possible and desirable for visitors to interact 3D modeling, interactive projection, virtual and augmented reality. Elkor Plaza EASTER EVENT AT ZIEMEĻBLĀZMA EASTER CAME A SINGING , 14:00 Performing for the delight of the audience will be the musical group Teikas Muzikanti, as well as the various folk-dance collective from the Ziemeļblāzma Palace of Culture. Several creative work-shops will also take place Easter egg coloring, rolling eggs, as well as egg tapping fights. Culture centre "Ziemeļblāzma" ORGAN MUSIC CONCERT AT RIGA DOME , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , 19:00 Experienced Latvian organ players, as well as guests from many other countries participate in concerts of organ music. This offers an opportunity to enjoy one of the most splendid and valuable historic organs in the outstanding acoustics of the Riga Dome Cathedral. The Riga Dome Cathedral organ belongs to the highest achievements of organ building of the late Romanticism period and is an excellent monument to the history of music. Riga Dome Cathedral EXHIBIT: THE JĀZEPS PĪGOZNIS AWARD FOR LATVIAN LANDSCAPE PAINTING , 10:00-18:00 (II-VI), 12:00-18:00(VII) Artist supreme Jāzeps Pīgoznis left this world in 2014, leaving us his landscapes that depict northern-like colourful boldness and diversity in all times of the year. The Pīgoznis Award was established in 2015 to accent the significance of landscape painting in Latvian contemporary art. Under the arches of splendid St. Peter's Church, here is an exhibit of the "best of the best" works created by 21st century Latvian artists. St. Peter's Church 7

CONTEMPORARY AND CONCEPTUAL JEWELRY , 10:00-18:00 (II-V), 11:00-17:00 (VI) If we speak about contemporary and conceptual jewelry, then they are like short stories which provoke dialogue and a necessity to delve deeper. These are stories which intellectually address the viewer, as well as the wearer. Putti Art Gallery ALEKSEJS NAUMOVS SOLO EXHIBITION ENDLESS LANDSCAPE , 10:00-18:00 (II-IV), 10:00-20:00 (V), 10:00-17:00 (VI,VII) With support from the Boris and Ināra Teterev Foundation, an exhibition featuring the most extensive retrospective yet of Aleksejs Naumovs' works. The exhibition will feature the author's early compositions, as well as pieces from private collections which had previously not been presented to the wider audience. The exhibition will serve as a canvas that covers the various stages and artistic directions of Naumovs, allowing the viewer to retrace the qualities that most art lovers are already well aware of. The exhibition will also feature workshops which might be something new for the audience, as they will be able to acquaint themselves first-hand with the artist's virtuoso expressions in other media, such as ceramics, illustrations or prints. Latvian National Museum of Art EXHIBITION ARTISTRY. 100 YEARS OF POLISH SCULPTURE , 10:00-18:00 (II-VII), 10:00-20:00 (V) The Centre of Polish Sculpture in Orońsko in collaboration with Art Museum Riga Bourse and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute in Warsaw, with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Riga is holding the Artistry. 100 Years of Polish Sculpture exhibition, which is taking place on the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining its independence and the establishment of the Latvian state. Daria Malicka's work Kunszt or Artistry, a concept which could be translated into English as "mastery" or "proficiency" has been chosen as the motto for the project. These words describe the sculptures, objects, installations and video films that have been created in the past hundred years by several generations of Polish artists, which have been brought to Riga from the collection of about 2000 works. Art Museum Riga Bourse EXHIBITION THE DOM MUSEUM TEMPLE FOR SCIENCE AND ART , 11:00-17:00 (III-VII); , 10:00-17:00 The exhibition is dedicated to the history of the Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation. The origins of the museum go back to 1773; however, the exhibition focuses on the period of the Dom Museum ( ), with a particular emphasis on the Baltic German contribution to the preservation of Latvia's cultural values and the fortunes of cultural treasures during the Second World War. ARCHITECTURE , 11:00-18:00 (II-VI) The paintings by Maija Tabaka featured at the exhibition are provocative in their subject narrative, sparkling in their joyous color, and surprising in their imagination. This is where the magic of this exhibition is hidden: the expression of fantasies, daring to paint and expressing emotions in theatricalized compositions. Gallery Daugava, Ausekļa Street EXHIBITION MUSIC OF TIME. CLOCKS FROM THE COLLECTION OF THE RIGA MUSEUM OF HISTORY AND NAVIGATION. FROM THE 17TH TO 20TH CENTURIES , 11:00-17:00 (III-VII); , 10:00-17:00 The exhibition will display many of the museum's most unique and interesting clocks from its collection. The museum currently has 528 clocks in its collection from the 17th to 20th centuries. Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation EXHIBITION LATVIAN BALLET LEGEND ARVĪDS OZOLIŅŠ IN PAINTINGS AND DRAWINGS BY ALEKSANDRA BEĻCOVA , 11:00-19:00 (II), 11:00-18:00 (III-VI) The friendship between the prominent Latvian ballet dancer Arvīds Ozoliņš ( ) and the artist Aleksandra Beļcova ( ) began in the 1930s. This was also the time when the first portraits of Ozoliņš created Beļcova appeared. In the subsequent years as well, up to her death, the painter continue to paint portraits of the ballet dancer during his rehearsals, backstage, in the makeup room, as well as in relaxing atmosphere settings. These works reveal the personality of the dancer, and illustrate the development Belcova's creative work. Romans Suta and Aleksandra Beļcova Museum HELGA INGEBORGA MELNBĀRDE SOLO EXHIBITION REASON TO BE , 11:00-18:00 (II-VII) The experienced master of ceramics Helga Ingeborga Melnbārde gets her inspiration from poetry, music and stage art. In her work, the artist like to toy with various styles and combinations, which many would initially say is impossible. Melnbārde's porcelain drawings are expressive and colorful. 12 EVENTS Michael Pipoquinha INGA JUROVA SOLO EXHIBITION TALES FROM THE SUBURBS , 11:00-19:00 (I-V), 11:00-17:00 (VI) In this exhibition, Inga Jurova documents Riga through the architecture of the Maskavas suburb. The deeper perception of the exhibition is a story about people, their fates, love and death. Home is a metaphor, which allows to speak about the existing worldliness. Animals symbolize a spiritual dimension. MuseumLV EXHIBITION 100 OBJECTS FROM FINLAND , 11:00-17:00 (II-VII), 11:00-19:00 (III) The project is dedicated to the centenary of Finnish independence and offers a great opportunity to discover in an intriguing and creative manner what Finns themselves think about Finland and Finnishness. In the exhibition, each year of independence is represented by one object with an everyday, innovative or humorous mood. As a result, a unique collection of 100 objects has been made, showing a dynamic, successful and creative path of national development on which the Finns have travelled up to the present. Without doubt, Finnish design is famous all over the world. Therefore, the exhibition brings to mind such notions as Made in Finland and Designed in Finland. Yet above all the exhibition shows Life in Finland. Museum of Decorative Arts and Design CONTEMPORARY ART EXHIBITION THE FUTURE STATE , 11:00-18:00 (II,III,V), 11:00-20:00 (IV), 12:00-17:00 (VI,VII) Future predictions claim that over the following 20 years humanity will change much more than during the entire history of its existence. Artists were invited to imagine what either the world or Latvia could be like in the nearest future and to create new works for the exhibition sculpture and painting, installations, video films, animation. National Museum of Art exhibition space "Arsenāls" VEF JAZZ CLUB. MICHAEL PIPOQUINHA (BRAZIL) , 20:00 The sensational Brazilian bass guitarist Michael Pipoquinha is described by music critics as "refreshingly vital and a virtuoso." The musician's career began at the age of 13, literally "blowing up" the Internet with home-made music videos. Now, at the age of 21, Michael's performances has captivated the audiences of major European and South American jazz festivals. At the VEF Palace of Culture, the musician will perform together with the Riga Jazz Quartet. VEF Culture Palace 10

13 APRIL 2018 Exhibit "My Bird" INTERNATIONAL JAZZ COMPETITION RIGA JAZZ STAGE , , 19:00 Every year, Riga Jazz Stage gathers up and coming jazz musicians from Latvia and around the world, allowing the audience to follow along their favorite musicians during the competition and enjoy top quality jazz in yet unheard interpretations. This year's competition will take place in two categories Jazz Vocals and Jazz Bass. Splendid Palace INTERNATIONAL AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY TRADE FAIR "AUTO 2018" , , 10:00-19:00; , 10:00-17:00 Here is an opportunity to look at an amazing variety of motor vehicles and equipment of different brands and makes brand new passenger cars, exotic and tuned cars and garage supplies. Ķīpsala International Exposition Centre EXHIBIT "MY BIRD" , 10:00-17:00 (III,V), 10:00-19:00 (IV), 11:00-17:00 (VI,VII) The Natural History Museum of Latvia presents an exhibition from the photography contest "My Bird". The aim of the photo competition is to increase understanding about the variety of birds, raise protection issues, and highlight the unique beauty of various species. Traditionally, the competition's gallery includes photographs from all participants. Natural History Museum of Latvia FAIR AT KALNCIEMS DISTRICT , , , , , , , , , , , 10:00-16:00 Every Saturday, Latvian farmers offer local goods at the Kalnciems Quarter Fair, and craftsmen come to sell unique pieces of handiwork. Children are invited to participate in creative workshops, free of charge, and to ride a colorful merry-go-round. The theme of the fair changes to reflect seasonal festivals, during which there also are concerts, exhibitions, open-air plays, and other activities taking place at the fair. Kalnciema District 11

14 EVENTS Spring Sigulda Restaurant Week CONCERTS ON SAUER ORGAN , , , , , , , , , , , 18:00 Old St. Gertrude's Church is home to the largest Sauer organ in Latvia, built by Sauer in Before the Riga Dome Cathedral became a concert hall in 1962, old St. Gertrude Church was the main organ concert venue in Riga. Old St. Gertrude's Church RIGA JAZZ STAGE 2018 GALA CONCERT MICHAEL PIPOQUINHA AND LATVIAN RADIO BIG BAND , 19:00 During the first part of the concert the winners of the Riga Jazz Stage 2018 laureates in the categories Jazz Vocal & Jazz Bass will be announced. The second part of the concert will feature the sensational Brazilian bass guitarist Michael Pipoquinha and Latvian Radio Big Band, presenting their Tribute to Jaco musical program, honoring one of the best ever living bass players Jaco Pastorius. Splendid Palace SPRING SIGULDA RESTAURANT WEEK As part of Sigulda Restaurant Week, guests are invited to enjoy three-course meals from a selection of restaurants in Sigulda and the surrounding area. Each restaurant will offer meal sets for two prices 15 and 20 euros. Sigulda, EXHIBITION FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF THE REPUBLIC OF LATVIA , 11:00-19:00 (II), 11:00-18:00 (III-VI) This year, when many Latvian museums and other cultural institutions, in celebration of Latvia's centenary, are putting together exhibitions and various events in honor of this event, the Romans Suta and Aleksandra Beļcova Museum is featuring an exhibition about 1919, when the Republic of Latvia was celebrating its first anniversary as an independent nation. This was a time of great exhibitions, the founding of high schools and museums, and a flourishing social and cultural scene the important events of the time will be chronicled through illustrations and documents, as well as works of art. What strikes you immediately when listening to Nancy's music is her perfectly controlled, remarkably precise, highly distinctive voice and characteristic fusion of traditional rhythms with modernity; which is supported by an equally cultured band, including the Brazilian cavaquinho, flute, percussion and Portuguese guitar. Ķīpsala International Exposition Centre RIGA PHOTOGRAPHY BIENNIAL , 11:00-18:00 (II-VII) The central exhibition of the biennial will assess the aspects of human identity in the era of modern technological development, asking questions such as: Who are we today? How does our interaction with the place and time we call today formed? How does technological socialization determine the formation of identities today? Emphasizing, while at the same time asking about the importance and status of photography in visual arts, the exhibition will present the photograph as part of a wider culture of images that has undergone ever more rapid changes in recent years, significantly impacting the way we think. According to Catholic traditions of Latgale, a cross is the place of reflection where one looks up, removing any hat in reverence to God. People called divine service in May as "dzīduošana pi krusta" (singing at the cross) and held it at their own initiative. In March of 2017, Blunt released his fifth studio album called The Afterlove, which follows his multi-platinum album Moon Landing. The new album is in a similar musical style as his previous one - romantic pop-rock, with a slightly melancholy tone. However, some of his new compositions also have a new sound. The event will be a merry gathering of song and dance, with performances also from the Ziemeļblāzma children's folk-dance collective Bitīte (Bee), the folk-dance collective Pērkons (Thunder), the middle-aged folk dance collective Auda, and the senior folk dance collective Ziemēļblāzma (Northern Light). The dancers will actively involve the audience as well. Participants will also be able to try weaving their own midsummer oak-leaf crown or flower wreath. Culture centre "Ziemeļblāzma" RIGA FESTIVAL. 47 JUNE 2018 International folklore festival Baltica 2018 gala event SUITI MARKET , 16:00-23:00 The Suiti Market at the Kalnciems Quarter has become an annual tradition. The Midsummer Market will feature ethnographic musical performances throughout the day, with the legendary Suitu Sievas also taking the stage to sing traditional midsummer songs and melodies. Weaving activities will also take place to weave the perfect Midsummer crown out of flowers and oak leaves, as well as various other traditional activities. And of course, traditional foods from Kurzeme Province, like sklandrauši, koča and others, will also be served to hungry visitors. Kalnciema District INTERNATIONAL FOLKLORE FESTIVAL BALTICA 2018 GALA EVENT , 16:00 The theme of this year's Baltica folklore festival is "Jāņi. Flowering", thus highlighting the rich summer solstice traditions of the Latvian people, while at the same time getting to know the traditions other cultures from around the world have in connection with the summer solstice. The festival will conclude with a festive culmination at the November 11 Embankment in downtown Riga, where all of the festival's participants will gather to jointly celebrate the summer solstice ethnographic ensembles, folklore troupes, musical collective, storytellers, individual performers and others. 11th November Embankment SUMMER SOLSTICE IN TURAIDA , 19:00 Summer Solstice the shortest night of the year and day full of mysteries and traditions is widely celebrated on 21 June. MARKET , 09:00-17:00 To properly prepare for the annual Midsummer of Līgo! festival, a traditional market will once again be organized on Riga's Dome Square, where farmers and craftsmen from all over Latvia will offer flower bunches and garlands, oak leaf crowns, traditional teas and honey from Latvia's aromatic summer fields, country bread, cheeses, warm pastries, smoked meat and other goodies necessary to properly celebrate the merry festival. Furthermore, Latvia's best craftsmen will also be on hand, offering a wide range of items wickerwork, clay dishes, linen tablecloths and bed covers, knitted items, wooden spoons, as well as traditional jewelry made of amber and silver. Meanwhile, traditional musical and dance collectives from Riga will maintain a merry festival atmosphere throughout the day! 11th November Embankment LĪGO! FESTIVITIES ON NOVEMBER 11 EMBANKMENT AND DZEGUŽKALNS The Midsummer, of Līgo! festival, in Riga is traditionally celebrated on the November 11 embankment and Dzegužkalns, where bonfires and Līgo! songs will be sung, and traditional festival dishes will also be served. Performing at the events will be various traditional musical and dance collectives.
