8 EVENTS Contemporary jewelry exhibition - Summer Symphony in a Lark s Heart EXHIBITION - BOOK IN LATVIA , 10:00-17:00 (I,VI), 9:00-17:00 (II,IV), 12:00-20:00 (III,V) The National Library of Latvia permanent exhibition Book in Latvia is a story of the history of Latvian book in a global context, inspired by the new image of the library. At the center of the permanent exhibition is the book both as a material object and as a social and spiritual phenomenon that has changed and is still changing society at large as well as individual lives and minds. National Library of Latvia CONTEMPORARY JEWELRY EXHIBITION - SUMMER SYMPHONY IN A LARK S HEART , 10:00-18:00 (I-V), 11:00-17:00 (VI) Foggy horses gallop in morning dawn. A golden boat rises from its depth. Diamond drops shine in dewy grass. Bird voices wind up to the sky happiness, peace and hope. Embraced by sunlight, summer symphony begins in lark s heart. Summer s dance has begun. The exhibition will consist of works by Latvian and international contemporary jewelry artists. Putti Art Gallery EXHIBITION. THE DOM MUSEUM TEMPLE FOR SCIENCE AND ART , 10:00-17:00 (I-VII) The exhibition is dedicated to the history of the Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation. The origins of the museum go back to 1773; however, the exhibition focuses on the period of the Dom Museum ( ), with a particular emphasis on the Baltic German contribution to the preservation of Latvia s cultural values and the fortunes of cultural treasures during the Second World War. Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation EXHIBITION "LATGALE S CERAMICS - TRADITIONAL AND CONTEMPORARY" , 10:00-19:00 (II), 11:00-17:00 (III-VII) Every region is characteristic of some special culture feature. One of the brightest features of Latgale and the Latvian traditional culture in general is Latgalian ceramics that has still preserved the ancient pottery traditions. Latgalian pottery has been included in Latvia s Cultural Canon. Participants of the exhibition will include folk art studio "Rēzeknes apriņķa pūdnīki" and Andrejs Paulāns applied folk arts studio members. Universal Art Formula, dedicated to the life and work of the versatile Latvian artist Romans Suta. Latvian National Museum of Art EXHIBITION - LILAC , 10:00-18:00 (II-VII) The museum will blossom back to life this spring with the colorful exhibition - Lilac. It will acquaint visitors with art pieces and other household items decorated with lilac motifs. This exhibition is a continuation of the museum s tradition to organize exhibitions dedicated to flower motifs in art. Riga Art Nouveau Centre LATVIA INTERNATIONAL CERAMICS BIENNALE , 11:00-18:00 (II-VII) The contemporary ceramics collection, in cooperation with the Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Center. With works from 100 different contemporary ceramics artists from Latvia and around the world, the exhibition will be organized at the Riga Art Space s main hall, in a unique scenographic presentation. Curators: Māris Čačka, Valentīns Petjko. Riga Art Space EXHIBITION - THE SECRETS OF THE EAST. WESTERN FASHION AND CHINA , 11:00-19:00 The exhibition features several dozen items of clothing, as well as exotic accessories and small interior items from the unique Alexandre Vassiliev collection from the 18th to 21st centuries. The exhibition focuses on how Chinese culture has influenced Western fashion over the years. Fashion Museum MAIJA NORA TABAKA S EXHIBITION - RETROSPECTION , 11:00-18:00 (II-VI) Meeting up with Maija Nora Tabaka s (1939) paintings is always a celebration. It is not an exaggeration - she is Latvia s most popular painter. This time it will be a retrospection at Gallery Daugava, meeting with the images created by Maija Tabaka - beautiful yet mysterious characters, birds, flowers and lights. The viewer becomes a part of the artist s creative vision. This exhibition will be especially rewarding for those who are capable of appreciating the artist s outstanding paintings skills. 11 JULY 2017 Jūrmala Color Run EXHIBITION MAIJA TABAKA AND WESTERN BERLIN , 11:00-18:00 (II,III,V), 11:00-20:00 (IV), 12:00-17:00 (VI,VII) Since the well-known Latvian artist Maija Tabaka s stay in Western Berlin between 1977 and 1978, and her solo exhibition at the Künstlerhaus Bethanien, German art critics continue to call her the "Bird of Paradise", but when arriving in Berlin, her new-found friends began calling Maija the "Soviet Countess". National Museum of Art exhibition space "Arsenāls" SOLO EXHIBITION BY IMANTS KLĪDZĒJS , 11:00-18:00 (II, IV-VII), 11:00-19:00 (III) The experience and impressions gained during visits to the birthplace of porcelain, China, can be seen in the recent works of Imants Klīdzējs (1956). The ideas gained while working in China are still very much a part of the artist s style, which can be seen in his latest work. The artist enjoys creating structural porcelain through turning, with texture an important part of his works. The exhibition will feature the artist s latest works. Riga Porcelain Museum ILZE EGLE S SOLO EXHIBITION - ZĪMĒT (TO DRAW) , 12:00-21:00 (I-V), 12:00-18:00 (VI) The exhibition not only shows drawing as a form of art, but also the process of drawing as meditative, where it is possible to feel more natural and real, while at the same time dreaming and searching for answers to your most important questions. The artist is most captivated by the associative, subjective, as well as the story which sketch drawings, always seeming never complete, can bring. Galerija Istaba JŪRMALA COLOR RUN , 08:30 The Color Run marathons now take place in more than 200 cities around the world. There are 2 distances available: Lego Children s (500 m) and 5 km routes. The runners will start the 5 km race in a white t-shirt, getting covered from head to toe in paint after every kilometer of the route, first blue, second yellow, third orange and fourth rose. Children are invited to participate in creative workshops, free of charge, and to ride a colorful merry-go-round. The theme of the fair changes to reflect seasonal festivals, during which there also are concerts, exhibitions, open-air plays, and other activities taking place at the fair. Kalnciema District LIFESTYLE RALLY GUMBALL :00-22:00; :00-13:00 With exclusive automobiles and world famous stars, the Gumball 3000 lifestyle rally returns to Riga this summer, which will be the start city of the rally. This will be an excellent opportunity for Riga residents and guests to view over 120 exclusive automobiles, as well as meet world famous stars. Brīvības bulvāris FEEDING TIME AT RIGA ZOO , 11:45-14:15 The summer programme at Riga Zoo will again feature daily "demonstrations" of the staff feeding the animals. An excellent opportunity to find out what eat giraffes, why the lemur has a striped tail, how wide can a hippo open its mouth, and the tricks that the seal named Puika has learned. 13 JULY 2017 Magda Giannikou CONCERTS ON SAUER ORGAN , , , , , , , , , :00, :00, 20:00, 21:00, 22:00 Old St. Gertrude s Church is home to the largest Sauer organ in Latvia, built by Sauer in Before the Riga Dome Cathedral became a concert hall in 1962, old St. Gertrude Church was the main organ concert venue in Riga. Old St. Gertrude s Church FOLK DANCE CONCERT - THE SMALL EUROPEADE OF SUMMER , 18:00 At the park of the Ziemeļblāzma Culture Center in Riga, the dance collective concert The Small Europeade of Summer will take place, which will gather dance collectives from all over Latvia. JAZZ PIANIST JOHN BEASLEY , 18:30 Grammy nominated composer, pianist and music producer. John was born in the U.S., in the state of Louisiana. 14 EVENTS Open-air concerts at Spīķeri Quarter INTERNATIONAL ORGAN MUSIC FESTIVAL - RĪGAS DOMS , , , , , , , , , , , :00 The International Organ Music Festival Rīgas Doms is an annual spiritual and emotional experience of lovers of classical music, which takes place each summer in one of the oldest churches in Old Town - Riga Cathedral. This year will be the 30th edition of the festival, with the festival program created with Latvia s centennial celebration in mind - the story of Latvian organ music over the past 100 years, featuring many organists from all over the country and the music of Latvian composers during this period. Riga Dome Cathedral ARTISSIMO MUSIC & ART FESTIVAL The festival s concerts are dedicated to classical music, jazz, as well as world music. Each year, the festival gathers masters of classical and world music, orchestras and jazz collectives under the star covered skies of Jūrmala. Improvisation between musicians and the audience creates and atmosphere of energy and feelings. The true emotions jazz can offers is like an oasis in the synthetic world of music. Small Guild OPEN-AIR CONCERTS AT KALNCIEMA QUARTER , , , , , , , , , , 18:00-23:00 Free open-air concerts take place every Thursday in the Kalnciema Quarter courtyard, which provides a great platform for young emerging musicians from Latvia. Festival goers will be delighted by more than 40 popular music stars and bands from Latvia and all over the world. On 20th of July the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra will open the festival and Metropolitan Opera star soprano Kristine Opolais will have one of her rare performances in Latvia. Russian pop musicians Jelena Vaenga, Valerij Leontjev, Valerij Syutkin, Uzari from Belarus and Zlata Ognevich from Ukraine will perform as solo artists and duet partners. Latvia will be represented by Intars Busulis, Janis Stibelis, Justs and Aija Andrejeva. International crossover band DAGAMBA will merge classsical music with contemporary and create previously unheard collaborations with other festival artists. 18

21 JULY 2017 Red Hot Chili Peppers On 21st of July Chris Norman, the leader of the legendary band "Smokie", will perform on the "Dzintari" Concert Hall stage. Academic music will be represented by charming New York Metropolitan diva Hibla Gerzmava. Popular artists from many different countries will continue to perform on the second night of the festival, festival guests will have a chance to see performances by Leonid Agutin, Vladimir Presnjakov, energetic duo "Potap i Nastja", pop band "Gradusi", singer Natalya Podolskaya, Estonian singer and Eurovision contestant Ott Lepland. Samanta Tina will join Intars Busulis and Janis Stibelis as performers from Latvia. Composer and singer Stas Mihailov will perform on the third night of the festival 22nd of July. He will be joined by Arkadiy Ukupnik, Lolita, singer and comedian Vladimir Vinokur, energetic boy band MBAND and group A Studio from Kazakhstan. Lucavsala island WORLD JAZZ FESTIVAL The annual World Jazz Festival brings world jazz legends to Riga each year. This year, jazz lovers will be able to enjoy three festival concerts. July 27, 3:00 p.m. at Dome Square - free concert, festival opening celebrations. July 27, 7:00 p.m. at Splendid Palace - the evening will be opened by Russian jazz star Oleg Akuratov. Despite being blind from birth, Oleg has always been able to delight the audience with his enthusiastic piano performances. The concert will continue with American jazz diva Patti Austin. Latvian National Opera and Ballet BALLET "AT THE BLUE DANUBE" , 19:00 The beautiful music of "waltz king" Johann Strauss inspired a romantic ballet about the choice between love and the stage, dreams and reality. An der schönen blauen Donau was first performed in Riga in 1957; in the 60 years since, it has been revived numerous times and has become one of the cornerstones of the Latvian Ballet. This new production is in celebration of yet another anniversary. National History Museum of Latvia SINFONIETTA RIGA OPENS ITS CONCERT SEASON , 19:00 Sinfonietta Riga enjoys new discoveries just as much the chamber orchestra savors traditions, avidly looking for commonalities and pondering about musical lineages. This is evident in the orchestra s season opening concert program. Along with the classic Joseph Haydn s Symphony in D major - the delightfully romantic and sparkling Violin Concerto by Felix Mendelssohn - who once re-discovered the music of Johann Sebastian Bach.
