4 Jury'requirements' AllstudentsenrolledinAppliedIorIIarerequiredtocompleteajuryexaminationforthe keyboardfacultyduringfinalexamweek;exactdatesandsignjupsheetsarepostednearthe endofeachterm.studentsenrolledinappliedpreparatoryiiarerequiredtoperformajuryas aprerequisitetoenrollinginappliedi;allotherstudentsinappliedpreparatoryioriiperform theirfinalexaminationonejonjonefortheirappliedteacher.thejuryrequirementmaybe waivedforappliediistudentswhoperformasophomorerecitalatthediscretionofthe appliedteacher. Scales Arpeggios Chordprogressions Etude Repertoire StudentsinAppliedIshouldpreparefourJoctavemajor,harmonicandmelodicminorscales; AppliedIIstudentspreparefourJoctavemajor,minor,majorJminor7thanddiminished7th arpeggios.appliedistudentsshouldcompletescalesinallkeysbytheendofthesecond semesterofstudy.eachteachermaydeterminetheorderinwhichkeysarestudied thus,any keysnotpreparedinthefirstsemestermustbepreparedduringthesecondsemester.this sameprocedureshouldbefollowedwitharpeggiosforappliediistudents. Practice'expectations' Successinlearningtoplayanymusicalinstrumentisdirectlyrelatedtoboththequantityand qualityofpracticetimespentatthatinstrument.bothaspectsareimportant:twoequally talentedstudentsmayspendanequalamountoftimepracticingyetachieveverydifferent resultsduetotheabilityofonestudenttoutilizethatpracticetimewithmaximumefficiency. Warm'upsJAmusicalwarmupshouldbeprecededbyaphysiologicwarmuptoraise theinternaltemperatureofthebody.thisshouldincludecirculationexercisesaswellas stretching. 2. Cool'downsJStretchingafterpracticeisequallyifnotmoreimportant.Musclestendto shortenwithrepetitiveuseandmustbebroughtbacktooptimalrestinglength;waste productsofmuscularactivityneedtobeeliminatedthroughefficientcirculation. 3. BreaksJPracticeshouldbeinterruptedwithbreaksevery30to45minutes.Thebreak shouldattheleastincludewalkingtoaidcirculation.mentalassessmentofpracticing couldbeincorporatedintobreaks,orlisteningtoatapeofoneself.somestretches couldalsobeused. 4. PacingJItisimportanttograduallyincreasepracticetimeoveralongperiodoftime ratherthanabruptly binging. Thisallowsthebodytobuildupconditioning. 5.
