1 oreord In recent years, the use of instrumental music in orship has expanded ell eyond that of organ and piano It has played a maor role in defining a ide spectrum of orship styles that are often lended together into a single service, and may serve to reach a roader community of orshippers ith an ever-groing diversity of tastes and preferences As instrumental musicians, e continually search for resources that are not only interesting, expressive and versatile, ut that enale us to use our God-given talents in a ay that maintains the high level of musical excellence e expect of ourselves, and the Creator deserves in orship You ill find this collection of familiar hymn tunes for clarinet and piano to encompass a ide variety of musical styles ranging from classical to azz, serious to himsical, harmonically simple to complex, formal to fun, and alays offering a fresh expression of the mood and spiritual essence of the original hymn Each arrangement is eteen three and four minutes in length The hymns themselves have een chosen so that the collection includes selections for a variety of service needs: prelude, call to orship, offertory, feature solo, or meditation Although this collection is eyond the skill level of eginning players, I elieve oth soloists and accompanists ho are looking for something that presents a it of a challenge ill enoy preparing these arrangements I also elieve congregations ill enoy listening and orshipping to the melodies of their favorite hymns hich have een a part of the orship experience for so many generations Brant Adams Aout the Arranger Brant Adams is perhaps the premier orchestrator for church music pulishers today His numerous cantata and octavo orchestrations may e found in the catalogs of the leading pulishers in the industry He holds a BM in piano performance from Capital University, Columus, Ohio, an MM in music theory from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and a hd in music theory from the University of Texas at Austin He holds the rank of professor on the music faculty of Oklahoma State University here he has taught since 197 and served as interim head of the music department from His arrangements in this collection reflect his solid understanding of instrumental riting, his creative arranging ailities, and a keen aareness of the local church setting shaped y his many years as a practicing church musician Brant and his ife, Ginger, live in Stillater ith their three daughters, Lindsay, Lauren and Lacey 30/223L-2
