In A Little Before Tis Day, producer Chris Brookes tracks down the village carolers and follows them on their rounds as they sing their medieval melodies. Mummers at the Door looks at the ancient solstice custom in Mummering. In North America today it is a popular part of Christmas now only in Newfoundland and Pennsylvania. The Promised Land: Winona LaDuke airs Sunday, December 26 at 10 p.m. Outspoken, engaging, and unflaggingly dedicated to matters of ecological sustainability, Winona LaDuke introduces host Majora to the pine forests, lakes, and windswept plains of the White Earth Reservation; and she talks about harnessing wind power, nutrition and diabetes, preserving heritage crops, and a mandate to protect the land inherited from her ancestors. A Season s Griot airs Friday, December 31 at 12 p.m. Hosted for the last 17 years by acclaimed storyteller Madafo Lloyd Wilson, this annual one-hour special captures the tales and traditions of African-American and African peoples.
