3 Installation guide By purchasing this device you possess an advanced soil moisture station, that measures the soil moisture and soil temperature at 5 depths. To view the soil moisture data you need Dacom advisory services. For more information go to Getting started 1. There are two apps to install the TerraSen station, make sure you download the right one from the App Store or Google Play Store a. Install the Soil moisture app if you have a subscription for Dacom online b. Install the TerraSen installation app if you have a subscription for the Dacom desktop program 2. Open the app and give permission to use your location 3. Sign in a. Soil moisture app: fill in the username and password of your Crop-R account. If you don t have a Crop-R account, register via: b. TerraSen installation app: you have received your username and password via . If you didn t receive or lost this, please contact us via: services@dacom.nl. When you are signed in, you can start installing the TerraSen station at the selected spot in the field. 4. Open the box of the TerraSen station and make sure all the parts are there TerraSen soil moisture sensor (with screw tip) Rain gauge (in case of a TerraSen station PRO) Datalogger DSG 3.0 with solar panel and communication function Aluminium pole Plastic shell (to protect the top of the pole) Cap Hose clamp(s) Auger Twist tool (including magnet) Socket wrench 5. Installation TerraSen soil moisture sensor a. Use the auger to drill an undersized hole with a depth of at least 70 cm at the selected spot in the field. If you are experiencing resistance when drilling, choose a different spot in the field. b. Place the TerraSen soil moisture sensor in the undersized hole with a light downward pressure and turn it clockwise into the soil up to the black marker line using the twist tool. When twisting, don t move sideways and don t place your full weight on the soil moisture sensor. Make sure you keep the plug of the sensor cable clean. 6. Installation datalogger DSG 3.0 and rain gauge (in case of a TerraSen station PRO) a. Install the pole at least 1 meter from the sensor. Place the plastic shell on the aluminum pole and hit about ⅓rd of the pole into the ground. Make sure the pole is in the ground firm and straight. Replace the plastic shell with the cap. b. On the lower side of the DSG there are two connectors: a 2-pole connector for the rain gauge and a 7-pole connector for the soil moisture sensor. Put the plug of the sensor cable into the 7-pole 3

4 connector and screw it tight. The plug of the sensor cable and the connector can only be connected in one way. If this does not go smooth, make sure the plug is in the correct connector. Put the plug of the rain gauge in the 2-pole connector and screw it tight. c. Mount the DSG and rain gauge (in case of a TerraSen station PRO) with the hose clamps on the pole. Use the socket wrench to fix the hose clamps. Make sure the solar panel is aimed south (or north in the southern hemisphere) and that the DSG and rain gauge are above the crop. 7. If you have a subscription for Dacom online, install the TerraSen station with the Soil moisture app (if you use the TerraSen installation app, go to step 8) a. Open the Soil moisture app Press Sign in. b. Sign in Fill in the username and password and press Sign in. 4

5 c. Scan the QR code By pressing the + sign in the screen Field overview this screen will open. Scan the QR code on the back of the TerraSen station. If you scan a TerraSen station that is already coupled to another account, you will receive a message. d. Add new soil moisture sensor If the TerraSen station is not coupled, the station you just scanned will be coupled to your Crop-R account. After, you can give the station a name or select soil type. Because you gave permission to use your location when installing the TerraSen app (step 2), the geographical location for the TerraSen station will be stored. You have to carry out additional settings in Dacom online. e. Switch on the DSG and finish the installation Switch on the DSG by moving the magnet in the twist tool once from top to bottom on the right side next to the solar panel. Make sure that the magnet is located at the correct side of the twist tool and that the solar panel is aimed at yourself. You will hear a beep shortly after. The installation is now completed. 5

f. Field overview When you are signed in, you will see the screen Field overview. If you sign in for the first time, the screen is empty.

The status, field name, refill capacity and soil temperature will be visible Go to Dacom online to view all the information.

With the symbol in the top-right corner the menu will pop up, you can use this to sign out for example With the + sign you can scan a TerraSen station g.

6 f. Field overview When you are signed in, you will see the screen Field overview. If you sign in for the first time, the screen is empty. Once you activate a TerraSen station and thereby couple the station to your Crop-R account, the station will be in this overview. The status, field name, refill capacity and soil temperature will be visible Go to Dacom online to view all the information. From the screen Field overview you can do the following things: With the symbol in the top-left corner you can refresh the list. With the symbol in the top-right corner the menu will pop up, you can use this to sign out for example With the + sign you can scan a TerraSen station g. Information about the station After you selected a TerraSen station from the list, you will see the following: Voltage Signal Serial number Status Latest measurement Refill capacity Field name Soil settings h. Switch off a coupled TerraSen station By pressing the + symbol in the screen Field overview the scan screen will open. If you scan a coupled TerraSen station, this screen will open. You can switch off or reinstall the TerraSen station. 6

7 8. If you have a subscription for the Dacom desktop programma, activate the TerraSen station by using the TerraSen installation app a. Open the TerraSen installation app Press Sign in. b. Sign in Fill in your username and password and press Sign in. 7

c. Station overview When you are signed in, you will see the screen Station Overview. If you sign in for the first time, the screen is empty.

The serial number, name of the station on the Dacom database and possibly the crop name will be listed here.

8 c. Station overview When you are signed in, you will see the screen Station Overview. If you sign in for the first time, the screen is empty. Once you activate a TerraSen station and thereby couple the station to your Dacom account, the station will be in this overview. The serial number, name of the station on the Dacom database and possibly the crop name will be listed here. Scan the QR code By pressing the + symbol in the screen Station overview the scan screen will open. Scan the QR code on the back of the TerraSen station. If you scan a TerraSen station that is already coupled to another account, this will be mentioned on the screen. e. Information about the station After you selected a TerraSen station out of the list, you will see the information about the station. For example the last time the station has communicated with the Dacom database. You can also couple the TerraSen station to another station name on the Dacom database. And you can enter or change the name of the crop. 8

Switch on the DSG and finish the installation Switch on the DSG by moving the magnet in the twist tool once from top to bottom on the right side next to the solar panel.

9 f. Add new TerraSen station If the TerraSen station is not coupled, the station you just scanned will be coupled to your Dacom account. After, you can couple the station to another name of a station on the Dacom database and enter a name of your crop. Because you gave permission to use your location when installing the TerraSen app (step 2), the geographical location for the TerraSen station will be stored. g. Switch on the DSG and finish the installation Switch on the DSG by moving the magnet in the twist tool once from top to bottom on the right side next to the solar panel. Make sure that the magnet is located at the correct side of the twist tool and that the solar panel is aimed at you. You will hear a beep shortly after. The installation is now completed. h. Switch off a coupled TerraSen station or decouple a station from your Dacom account By pressing the + symbol in the screen Station overview the scan screen will open. If you scan a coupled TerraSen station, the screen on the left will open. In this screen you can switch off the TerraSen station or decouple the station from your Dacom account. 9
